This invention relates to hydraulic jacks for motor vehicles and has for the primary object the provision of a portable device of this charstruction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my inven- 5 tion, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view illustrating a hydraulic jack and operating mechahism therefor. 20 Figure 2 is a top plan view, partly in section,
illustrating the same.
Figure 3 is a perspective view illustrating the cover and the base of the device.
Figure 4 is a detail sectional view showing the 25 means for securing the cover to the base.
Referring in detail to'the drawing, the numeral I indicates a base consisting of a plate in which opposite ends thereof are curved upwardly, as shown at 2, so that said base or plate may be 30 readily slid upon the ground or other supporting surface without the base digging or catching into the ground. Removably secured to the base I is a cover or housing 3. The securing means i between the cover or housing 3 and the base is 35 preferably in the form of screw threaded studs B suitably secured to the base and extending through apertured flanges 5 of the cover or housing and having threaded thereon nuts.
Mounted upon the base I within the cover or 40 housing 3 is a hydraulic jack I, the construction and operation of which is conventional. The
elevating element 8 of the jack 1 is adapted to pass outwardly'through an opening in the top of the cover or housing. The operating medium of 45 the jack is indicated at 9, whereby a pivotal movement thereof will cause a raising of the elevating element 8. A connecting link I is pivoted to the operating element 9 of the jack and is eccentrically pivoted to a wheel or disc II suitably se-' to cured to the shaft I: of an electric motor IS.
The motor I8 is moimted to the base I and has electrical conductors l4 connected therewith and which extend outwardly of the cover or housing a in'tm'frorm oi an extension cord. The exten- 55 sion cord is adapted to be electrically connected or plugged in an electric circuit of a motor vehicle so that the electrical energy for the motor may be obtained from the electrical power source of the vehicle. Connected to the conductors I4 and located within the housing or cover 3 is a switch IS, the control lever thereof being indicated by the character I6 and is provided with an eye slidably receiving a rod l1 connected to the elevating element 8 of the jack. The lower end of the rod I1 is onset, as shown at It, the 10 purpose of which is to impartmovement to the control lever as of the switch I5 when the elevating element 8 of the jack reaches substantial ly its full elevating position so as to break the electric circuit to the motor l3 and thereby stop operation of the Jack;
The jack 1 is provided with the usual releasing valve or equivalent element employed for'lowering the-elevating element 8 and connected to the control element 20 a handle 2i extending 20 through an opening of the housing 3 and equipped with a finger piece so that the operator may at any, time desired actuate the control element 2|! for the lowering of the elevating-element 8 of the jack. The handle 2| may be of any desired length and may be employed by the operator for positioning the device under the axle of a motor vehicle.
The cover or housing 3 is equipped with? a handle 22 so that the device'may be conveniently carried from 'one place to another.
Having described the invention, I claim:
In combination with a hydraulic jack having an operating medium and an elevating element. a base supporting said jack, an electric --motor mounted to said base and connected to said operating medium for actuating-the elevating element, an electrical connection for said motor to be connected in an electric circuit of a motor ve-. 40 hicle, a switch connected to said electrical connection and to said elevating. element for stopplug the motor when said elevating element reaches its full elevating position, a cover mounted to said base with the motor and the major portion of the jack confined therein and provided with an opening to permit the elevating element to extend exteriorly of said cover, said base having opposite ends curved upwardly. a handle secured to said cover, and means for lowering the elevatmg element and extending exteriorly of the cover whereby said means may be employed for positioning the Jack under anaxle of the motor ve- I hicle. v I
