In France 1 Claim.
The present invention relates to toilet atomizers of the type wherein an atomizer head, which is fitted on to a bottle or like receptacle, comprises an atomizing orifice and an air blowing orifice.
In accordance with this invention, a plug is provided which may be fitted into the air blowing orifice in such manner as to close it hermetically, the plug being provided with a rod-like extension, the end of which hermetically closes the atomizing orifice, interiorly of the latter.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a construction of atomizer which is particularly adapted to be used in connection with closure means of the character described.
Other details and advantages of the invention will be evident from the detailed description thereof hereinafter set forth, particular reference being had to the accompanying sheet of drawing, wherein:
Fig. l is a vertical axial sectional view through an atomizer constructed according to the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a front elevational view of a plug, in accordance with the invention;
Fig. 3 is a view, partly in elevation and partly in section, showing the plug of Fig. 2 inserted in place in the head of the atomizer of Fig. 1.
Similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several figures of drawing.
The atomizer, illustrated on the drawing, comprises a bottle or like receptacle l, a ferrule 3 being sealed or otherwise securely fastened to the bottle or receptacle neck. Atomizer head 4 is threadedly mounted on the ferrule 3. Threaded into a central boss or extension 5 is a tubular member 6, from the lower end of which a glass aspirating tube 7 depends. The upper end of the tubular member 8 fits into a central bore 8 of the head 4, and is provided with an orifice 9 which opens into the upper portion of bore 8. A resilient annulus Ill is interposed between the top of the ferrule 3 and the bottom of head 4 in order to assure the air tight character of the joint between these- 0 small atomizing orifice l2, and opens at the other side of the head into an annular channel [3. The blower tube I4 is threaded at IS, on this side, into bore H, and extends inwardly to a point adjacent orifice l2, terminating opposite the latter in a corresponding orifice l6. Orifice June 9, 1933 I6 is formed in an end piece l1 which is threaded into the end of tube I4.
Head 4 further comprises an air aspirating channel [8, one end of which opens'into the bottom of the head, at l9, while the other end opens into the bottom of channel l3, at 20.
Air is supplied to the atomizer by means of a pear-shaped bulb 2|, the outlet or opening of which is clamped in the bottom of a fitting 22 by means of clamping nut means 23. The latter is screwed onto a threaded hollow central pin 24 which extends downwardly across the fitting 22. The central bore 25 of pin 24 communicates, through a lateral orifice 26 and an aligned orifice 21 in the fitting, with a lateral tapped bore 28, into which the outer end of the tube is threaded.
The atomizer operates in substantially conventional manner, and a detailed description of the mode of operation is therefore unnecessary.
When it is desired to remove the bulb and to close the bottle so that the contents thereof cannot be spilled, either into the exterior or into the bulb, even if the atomizer and its contents be turned upside down, as sometimes happens in a traveling bag or the like, it has heretofore been customary to unscrew the atomizer head and to replace it by a stopper adapted tightly to close the opening of the bottle. This procedure involves a number of disadvantages. In the first place, it is necessary to provide the atomizer with a removable head; the remaining assembly of head and bulb, interconnected by means of a tube, is very prone to be broken or otherwise damaged; with atomizers wherein the bulb is applied against a plane surface of the bottle, it is first necessary to move the bulb to an out-of-the-way position to enable it to be turned around the bottle in order to unscrew the head; the bottle is completely opened each time that the head is replaced by the plug or stopper, or vice versa, thus involving an appreciable loss of perfume due to evaporation; finally, the stopper constitutes an additional piece, the appearance of which must have due regard to size, and which is comparatively expensive.
In accordance with the present invention, it is the tube I4 which is unscrewed, together with the bulb, from the air blowing orifice I5, the tube being replaced by the plug illustrated in Fig. 2.
This plug consists of a rod 29, one end of which is provided with a head 30, and the other end with a partially encased rubber plug 3|. Adjacent head 30, the rod 29 is threaded at 32 to correspond with the threads at the orifice l5 of the atomizer head 4. A resilient washer 33, the diameter of which is somewhat less than that of the channel l3 which surrounds orifice I5, is mounted on rod 29 against head 30, in which it is partly housed.
The plug, thus constituted, is introduced into the atomizer head 4, as shown on Fig. 3. Rod 29 fits into bore H, threaded portion 32 is threaded into orifice l5, and plug 3| is locked against orifice l2, partly penetrating thereinto and tightly and hermetically closing it, while at the same time washer 33 is clamped in channel [3, hermetically closing orifice I5 as well as orifice 20.
It Will be noted that, in this manner, the bottle is hermetically sealed by the manipulation of one small part, use of which eliminates all the aforementioned disadvantages.
It will be understood that the invention has hereinbefore been disclosed purely by way of example only, and that numerous details thereof may be modified without departing from the inventive spirit.
Having disclosed the invention, what is claimed 1s:
Atomizer construction including a receptacle and an atomizer head mounted thereon, said head being provided with an atomizing orifice, an air blowing orifice and an air aspirating orifice, an integral member closed at its outer end and separable from said head and shaped to simultaneously seal all three orifices, one end of said member constituting an internal closure for said atomizing orifice, the other end of said member constituting an external closure for said air aspirating orifice, an intermediate portion of said member extending through said air blowing orifice, said integral means consisting of an elongated rod-like body with an enlarged head at one end thereof, a resilient plug partly housed in said body at the other end thereof and a resilient washer being disposed adjacent said enlarged head and partly encased thereby, said resilient plug constituting an element of said internal closure and said resilient washer constituting an element of said external closure.
