1 Claim.
The invention relates to a portable seesaw.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth a portable seesaw including an unusually strong and durable teetering structure having connected to the ends thereof a pair of carriers provided with seats for the individuals using the device, and with the carriers coupled to said structure in a manner to provide for the said seats to be at all times in a supporting position parallel to the surface upon which the device is mounted during rocking or teetering.
A further object of the invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth a portable seesaw with a supporting structure, a teetering structure and with said structures having coacting means to permit of the teetering structure being vertically adjusted with respect to land. anchored to the supporting structure.
A `further object of the invention is to provide kin a manner as hereinafter set forth, a portable seesaw including a teetering structure having a hanger structure upon which the former is pivotally suspended from, and with the hanger structure including oppositely extending laterally disposed means for carrying the pivots for :the :teetering structure.
A further object of the invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a portable seesaw including a teetering structure and a supporting structure for the latter. The supporting structure includes a reinforced standard. The teetering structure includes means for anchoring it to the standard and for pivotally suspending it from superposed parallel spaced points with respect to said means.
A further object of the invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a porv`table seesaw including a teetering structure formed at each end with a pivotally mounted angle-shaped reinforced seat carrier formed y throughout of metallic material and being shaped to form a broad supporting surface for the seat. Further objects of the invention are to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a portable seesaw whichvis comparatively simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, compact, thoroughly efficient for the purpose intended thereby, readily assembled, quickly repaired when occasion requires, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
To the above ends essentially, and to others which may hereinafter appear, the invention consists ofsuch parts, and such combination of parts which fall within the scope .of the invention as claimed.

The seesaw includes a supporting structure and a teetering structure generally indicated at 9, I respectively. The teetering structure is anchored Vto and capable of being vertically adjustable with respect to the supporting structure.
The supporting structure 9 includes a pair of oppositely outwardly inclined foot pieces II substantially of oblong contour and each having its lower edge inout, as at I2 for a portion of its length to form a pair of spaced treads I3. A pair of oppositely disposed metallic uprights or standards I4 is each formed of a vertical upper portion I and an outwardly inclined lower portion I6. Each upright is of channel-shaped cross section and with the channel opening outwardly. The portion I5 is of greater length than the portion I6. The portions I5 of the uprights have their inner faces abutting throughout and are anchored together by the holdfast means I'I. The portions I5 are formed with spaced superposed registering openings I8, I9. The openings I8 are arranged between the transverse median and upper end of portions I5. The openings I9 are arranged between the transverse median and lower end of the portions I5. The purpose of the openings I8, I9 will be presently referred to. The flanges at the lower part of the portions I6 are embedded in the foot pieces in proximity to each side of the transverse medians of said pieces, as at 2U. The lower part of the outer faces of the portions I6 abut the inner faces of the foot pieces, as at 2I, Figure 8. Arranged between the inner faces, at the vlower part of the portions I6 is a brace member 22 having oppositely outwardly inclined flanges 23 which abut said portions I6. The footrpieces, flanges and portions I6 are anchored together by the holdfast means 24.
The teetering structure I0 includes a vertically in proximity to each end with an opening 48.
adjustable hanger section 25, a rockable section 26 pivotally suspended from the section 25, and a pair of oppositely disposed carrier sections 21 of like construction pivotally connected to the ends of the rockable section.
The hanger section 25 is disposed centrally of the teetering structure and includes a pair of spaced parallel vertical oblong at bars 28 for positioning in the channels of the portions I5 and are adapted to be anchored, when adjusted to the uprights I4. For this purpose the bars 28 have aligning openings 29 adapted to selectively register with the openings I8 or the openings |9. Detachable holdfast means 30 coact with the openings 29, when the latter register with the openings I8 or I9 for anchoring the hanger section 25 stationary to the supporting structure 9. Each bar 2B is formed in proximity to its upper end with an opening 3|. The wall of the latter is upon two different diameters, and the junction of the diameters form said wall with a shoulder 32. Formed integral with the outer face of each bar 28, in proximity to its upper end is an outwardly extending sleeve 33 communicating at its inner end with the outer end of the opening 3|. The sleeve 33 is ported, as at 34 for the supply of lubricant therein. Each bar 28, in proximity to its lower end has integral therewith an outwardly extending socket forming member 35. The socket formed by member 35 is designated 36. The member 35 is ported, as at 31 to permit of supplying lubricant to socket 36. The sockets are of greater diameter than the inner diameters of the sleeves. The sleeves 33 are oppositely disposed and extend at right angles to the bars 28. The members 35 are oppositely disposed, extend at right angles to the bars 28, and are oi greater length than the sleeves 33.
The rockable section 26 includes a pair of upper oppositely disposed, opposed, spaced, oblong, narrow, resilient metallic stretchers 38 of bowlike contour, of rectangular contour in transverse section and standing on their lower lengthwise edges. Each stretcher 38 is formed at the intersection of its lengthwise and transverse medians with an opening 39 and in proximity to each end with an opening 40. Each stretcher 38 has connected thereto a pivot member 4| therefor. The pivot members 4| are of like form and each consists of a cylindrical shank 42 formed at its inner and at its outer end with a head. The heads are designated 43, 44. The shank 42 adjacent the head 44 has a part of reduced diameter, as at 45. The part 45 extends through an opening 39. The head 44 bears against the outer face of a stretcher. The head 43 is arranged in opening 3| and bears against shoulder 32. The pivot members 4I coact with the stretchers 38, sleeves 33 and shoulders 32 for connecting the stretchers 38 to the bars 28. The pivot members 4I pivotally suspend the stretchers 38. The latter are coupled together at their ends, in a manner to be referred to whereby they are maintained in bow-like form.
The rockable section 26 also includes a pair of lower oppositely disposed, opposed, spaced, oblong, resilient metallic stretches 46 of bow-like form' and of channel shape cross section. The width of the stretchers 46 is greater than that of the stretchers 38. The channels of the stretchers 46 open inwardly. Each stretcher 46 is formed at the intersection of its lengthwise and transverse medians with an opening 41 and Each stretcher 46 has connected thereto a pivot member 49 therefor. The pivot members 49 are of like form and each consists of a cylindrical shank 50 having a reduced outer portion 4I terminating in a head 52. The portion 5I extends through an opening 41 and head 52 is arranged against the outer face of a stretcher 46. The end portions of the shanks 50 are arranged within and extended from the sockets 36. The stretchers 46 are coupled together at their ends, in a manner to be referred to whereby they are maintained in bow-like form and which tends to maintain the pivot members 49 in the sockets 36. The members 49 pivotally suspend the stretchers 46. The latter overlap the members 35 when suspended from their pivots. The stretchers 46 are of less length than stretchers 38.
Each carrier section 21 includes a seat carrier 53 of metallic material formed of a vertical leg 54 and a horizontal leg 55 extending outwardly at right angles to the lower end of leg 54. The latter is hollow from a point in proximity to its upper end to its lower end whereby a pair of opposed spaced side checks 56 are formed. The space between the latter gradually increases in width towards the lower end of the seat carrier. The top of the leg 55 at its inner end merges into the lower portion of the leg 54 above the bottom of the latter. The leg 55 is of inverted channel shaped cross section and its flanges merge at their inner ends into the lower end of the checks 56. 'Ihe top of leg 55 provides a wide supporting surface for a seat 51. The latter abuts leg 54 and extends outwardly from the sides and outer end of leg 55. The seat 51 is anchored to leg 55 by the holdfast means 58.
The checks 56 gradually increase in width from their upper to their lower ends, and the inner lower corner of each check is formed with an opening 59. The upper end of leg 54 is formed with a horizontal opening 66, an upwardly extending outwardly inclined opening 6|, a groove 62 and a socket 63. The upper ends of the seat carriers 53 are positioned between the ends of the stretchers 38. The openings register with the openings 40. Extending through the said registering openings are short pivot members 64 headed at `each end thereof. 'I'he members 64 have reduced parts 65 which are arranged in the openings 40. 'Ihe heads of members 64 abut the outer faces of stretchers 38. The seat carriers 53 are ported, as at 66 for the purpose of supplying lubricant to members 64. Seated in the grooves 62 of the seat carriers 53 are handle bars 61 anchored in position by holdfast means 68 extending therethrough, seated in sockets 63 and extending through openings 6 I.
Positioned between the side checks 56, of each seat carrier 53, at the lower inner corners of said checks is a coupler consisting of a tubular body 69 and an arm 1U. Extending through the openings 59 of the checks of each seat carrier is a pivot 1| having heads 12 abutting the outer faces of the checks. The pivot 1| also extends through the tubular body 69. The arm 10 is formed with an opening 13 which is to align with the openings 48 at one end of each stretcher 46. 'I'he arms 1U are positioned between and overlapped by the stretcher bars 46. Extending through the aligning openings 48 and 13 are the holdfast means 14 for anchoring the arms to the ends of the stretchers 46.
The pivot members 64 maintain the upper stretchers in oppositely disposed bow-like contour 'I'he holdfast means 14 maintain the lower stretchers in oppositely disposed bow-like contour.
What we claim is:
In a seesaw, a support having oppositely disposed vertical channels lengthwise thereof opening outwardly having a pair of superposed transversely extending openings communicating with said channels, a pair of spaced parallel vertically adjustable bars slidably mounted in said channels and formed intermediate their ends with openings for selective alignment with one of the openings of said pair, means extending through the aligned openings for securing said bars in adjusted position, a pair of oppositely disposed bow-shaped upper stretchers having a rectangular cross-section with the longer dimension extending in a vertical direction, a pair of oppositely disposed bow-Shaped lower stretchers of channeled cross-section with the webs thereof extending in a vertical direction and the wings thereof facing inwardly towards .each other, a
pair of aligned bearing sleeves formed at the upper ends of said bars integral therewith adjacent the vertical medians of the upper stretchers, a second pair of aligned bearing sleeves formed at the lower ends of said bars integral therewith adjacent the vertical medians of the lower stretchers, trunnions extending inwardlyr at the vertical medians of said upper stretchers engaging the interior of said rst-mentioned sleeves for pivotal movement, trunnions extending inwardly at the vertical medians of said lower channeled stretchers engaging the interior of said second pair of sleeves for pivotal movement, a seating frame at each end of said stretchers jointedly connected between the ends of the respective pairs of upper and lower stretchers, a seat extending outwardly supported by each frame, and a holding element on each frame adjacent the junction of the upper stretchers therewith.
