HAIRPIN CLASP Filed May 1, 1935 INVENTOR FRANK. INTERRANTE.
ATTORNEY Patented Feta. i8, 1936 V PATENT OFFICE HAIRPIN CLASP Frank Interrante, Brooklyn, N. Y. Application May 1, 1935, Serial No. 19,136
2 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful imaprovements in a hair pin clasp. The invention has for an object the construction of a clasp as mentioned which is characterized by a single strand of vwire having a bottom section consisting of a pair of parallel side portions connected with a top section consisting of a U-shaped portion, and the connecting sections being so formed and constructed as to form a finger grip for the clasp.
The dominant feature of the invention resides in the construction of the connection sections mentioned in the previous paragraph, and relatesto a concave formation into which the tips of the fingers may readily engage for conveniently holding and manipulating the clasp.
Still further the invention contemplates a formation wherein each connection section has a top element connected with a bend to a bottom element, and said elements being curved for receiving the tips of ones fingers. V
Another object of the invention is the teaching of. a method for conveniently manufacturing the ,clasps described.
, Still further the invention proposes the construction of a clasp as described which is simple and durableand which can be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a device constructed according to this invention.
Fig. 2 is an edge elevational view of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an end elevationalview of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the line 3-3.
Fig. 4 is a partially developedwiew of the clasp.

tom section In consisting of a pair of parallel 5 side portions It and "l A top section H is arranged above the bottom section and consists of a U-shaped portion H with the arms thereof above said side portions Ill and [0 A connection section l2 connects the free end of one of the 10 arms of the U-shaped portion ll with the adjacent free end of the side portion l0. Another connecting section 43 connects the free end of the other arm of the U-shaped portion ll with the adjacent free end of the said side portion l0". 1
The connecting section I 2 comprises a curved top element [2 connected by a bend I2 with a curved bottom element I2". The connection section l3 comprises a curved top element l3 connected with a bend It with a curved bottom ele- 2 ment l3.
The curved elements l2, l2, l3", and HF are adapted to receive the convexed formation of the forefinger and thumb of the hand of a person so that the clasp may be conveniently gripped. The 2 bends l2 and 13 comprise portions of the clasp which are gripped by the finger tips. Thus, the clasp may be readily manipulated and properly positioned in the hair and removed when desired. 3
The side portions Ill" and ill are of greater length than the length of the U-shaped portion l I so as to materially project to the front, as clearly illustrated in Figs. land 2. The bend ll of the U-shaped portion H is slightly di- 3 rected upwards in side elevation (see Fig. 2) so that the hair may be readily forced in between the to: section I l and the bottom section 10 when the clasp is positioned upon the hair.
A further feature of the construction resides 40 .ure teaches the manufacture of the clasp. It is formed from a single strand of wire which has the side portions l0 and I 0, the U-shaped por- 5 tion H, and the connecting sections l2 and I3 formed in a common plane. The single strand of wire, after-it is formed into the shape shown in Fig. 4, is then bent at the centers of the connecting sections l2 and I3 so as to place the top 55 section above the bottom section. the bends II and I I".
In Figs. 5 and 8 another embodiment of the invention has been disclosed which is substantially identical to the form previously described, the identical parts being indicated by the same reference numerals, but distinguishing merely in the construction of the side portions II and II".
In this form of the invention the side portions are formed with a plurality of scallops. or wavy construction, indicated by reference numerals l0 and in respectively. These scallops are arranged in a common plane, as clearly indicated by Fig. 6. They are located beneath the arms of the U-shaped portion ii, and serve to provide additional gripping surfaces for gripping the hair in conjunction with the arms of the U- shaped portion.
In Fig. 7 the blank for constructing the clasp illustrated in Figs. 5 and 6 is shown. This blank is very similar in formation to the one illustrated in Fig. 4, distinguishing merely in the construction of the scalloped portions l0" and Ill upon the side portions I 0' and III".
In Figs. 8 and 9 another embodiment of the invention has been disclosed. In this species the clasp is formed from a stamping from sheet metal, contrasted with the prior formations from wire strands. In Fig. 8 an elevational view is shown of the stamping. This stamping is provided with the side portions 20' and 20 connecting respectively with the connection sections 22 and 23, which in turn connect with the U-shaped portion 2|. The connection sections 23 are integral with each other. This blank may be bent on the line A13 to form the finished clasp as illustrated in Fig. 9. This finished clasp comprises a bottom section 20 and a top section 2!. The bottom section 20 consists of the side portions 20- and 20 The top section 2! consists of a U- shaped portion 2|. The normally free ends of the U-shaped portion are connected with a connection section 25 connecting with the side portions 20'- and 20'.
In Figs. 10 and 11 another embodiment of the invention has been disclosed which is very similar to the prior form shown in Figs. 8 and 9 distin- Thisforms guishing therefrom merely in the omission of the connecting sections 22 and 23. In this form of the invention there is a transverse portion 20 serving as the connection section. The blank must be bent on the line CD in order to place it in the form illustrated in Fig. 1.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:-,
l. A hair pin clasp, comprising a single strand of wire having a bottom section consisting of a pair of parallel side portions, a top section above said bottom section and consisting of 'a U-shaped portion, a connection section connecting the free end of one of the arms of said U-shaped portion with the adjacent-free end of one of said side portions, another connection section connecting the free end of the other of said arms of said U- shaped portion with the adjacent free end oi the other of said side portions, and said connecting section being concave and touching each other to prevent the hair from extending between the arms of said U-shaped portion.
2. A hair pin clasp, comprising a single strand of wire having a bottom section consisting of a pair of parallel side portions, a top section above said bottom section and consisting of a U-shaped portion, a connection section connecting the free end of one of the arms of said U-shaped portion with the adjacent free end of one of said side portions, another connection section connecting the free end of the other of said arms of said U- shaped portion with the adjacent free end of the other of said side portions, and said connecting section being concave for forming the finger grip for the clasp, and the free ends of the connecting sections being in intimate contact .with each other.
