Description
Patented Jan. 21', 1936 RAILWAY LINE Mathew Ambrose Lor, Blackpool, England Application october e, 193s. sel-in No. ssasiz In Great Britain october 2s. 1932 2 Claim!- (Cl. 2 38-10) This invention relates to improvements in rails 'for toy, amusement and light railways.
According to the invention the rails'are formed l.
of rubber or rubber composition and after the 5 rails have been bent to the desired curvature they are held in such position by manipulation of the sleepers lin which they are fitted, such sleepers also being preferably formed of rubber or rubber composition.
10 'Ihe invention will be described with reference 15 Fig. 3 is a section through a pair of rails and 'sleeper showing the sleeper banked at one end to -take the outside of a curve.
The rails A of rubber or rubber composition are formed with a curved upper surface a and `ri) two inclined sides orilanges a1. The upper part of thev rails is preferably hollow as. shownin the drawing but they may be solid if so desired.
The sleepers B are preferably formed of rubber or rubber composition land are provided with a 25 dovetail shaped groove b to receive the inclined sidesl or lflanges a1 of the rails A -as shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
Each length of rail A is preferably connected to the adjacent length by a pin or rod c, preferably 30 of rubber, which in the case of hollow rails. is inserted in the circular hole a therein. In the c case of solid rails a suitable hole is formed in the end of each length to receive the pin c.
In order that the outer rail A on a curve may be banked the sleepers B for use on curved portions of the track may be deeper at one end than the other as shown in Fig. 3 whereby the outer rail is raisedabove the level of the inner rail.
Rails constructed in accordance with this in- 5 vention are primarily applicable for toy railways but may be alsoemploye'd for light and amusement railways such as are employed on fair grounds, and ingroad making, excavating. building and similar operations and may be bent in a 10 vertical plane to produce a switchback or other rising or falling track in addition to being curved laterally.. What I claim as my invention and desire to protect by Letters Patent isz- 15v 1. A railway track for toy, amusement or light railways comprising rails of rubber composition capable ofv assuming curvatures in a vertical plane and sleepers having grooves in which the 4 rails are carried whereby by manipulation of the 20 -sleepers the rails are caused to slide in the groovescomposition in dovetailed grooves in which the :o c
inclined sides or iianges of the rails are slidably mounted and a rubber pin or rod by which adjacent sections of track are connected together.
