J OHAN RABENBERG, OF BREOKINRIDGE, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN INCUBATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 202,467, dated April 16, 1878; application filed December 19, 1877.
Too whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHAN RABENBERG, of Breckinridge, in the county of Caldwell and State of Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Incubator, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a sectional front view of my improved incubator having front part out on, and Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section of the same on line as 00, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to an improved incubator for hatching the eggs of hens and other domestic fowls by the heat obtained from any suitable source.
Referring to the drawing, A represents the outer casin g of my improved incubator, which may be built of any suitable size, according to the number of eggs that are to be hatched.
At the interior of the casing are arranged, above a tin or other metal bottom, a number of sliding drawers, B, of which the lower have side perforations, while the upper drawers have bottom perforations for the free passage of the heated air. The eggs are placed in the drawers on layers of bran, oats, or other suitable material that prevents injury to the eggs and admits the air.
At the lower part of the incubator, below the metallic bottom 0, are arranged the lamps, stoves, and other heat-supplying agencies, the bottom 0 being provided above each stove or lamp with a diaphragm, O, of suitable material, that is supported by pillars at a suitable distance above the bottom to protect the drawers next to the metal bottom from the direct radiation of heat from the bottom 0.
A thermometer, D, is arranged back of the hinged front of the incubator, and the mercury-bulb of the same placed in a box with oats or other material, so as not to be affected by the direct heat of the tin bottom. A glasscovered opening in the front of the incubator admits the observing of the thermometer, so that the heat inside may be regulated.
The interior of the incubator is supplied with the required quantity of air by means of an opening with adjustable slides or valves E at the front, top, and rear, by which air is supplied when the chickens begin to develop in the shells. As soon as they leave the shells they are placed in the top drawer and left there for some time, and then taken out to be fed and raised by artificial means.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patenta The arrangement of the lamps, the metal plates 0, the deflectors G, and the trays B within a case, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
J OHAN RABENBERG.
