Abstract
A firearm muzzle device comprises an elongate cylindrical body having an outer sidewall defining a chamber. The muzzle has a plurality of spaced-apart baffle walls trans within the chamber and segmenting the chamber into sub-chambers with each baffle element defining a central aperture; and the sidewall defining a plurality of apertures associated with each sub-chamber.
Description
- This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 63/422,744, filed on Nov. 4, 2023, entitled “MUZZLE DEVICE AND METHODS OF MANUFACTURING”, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety for all that is taught and disclosed therein.
- The present invention relates to muzzle devices and methods of manufacturing the same.
- Firearm recoil can cause injury in shooters.
- Sound suppressors are subject to extensive regulations.
- The above disadvantage is addressed by a firearm muzzle device that comprises an elongate cylindrical body having an outer sidewall defining a chamber. The muzzle has a plurality of spaced-apart baffle walls trans within the chamber and segmenting the chamber into sub-chambers with each baffle element defining a central aperture; and the sidewall defining a plurality of apertures associated with each sub-chamber.

FIG. 3 depicts a cross-section of the present embodiment of the muzzle device and its internal baffling as post-machined depicts a cross-section of the present embodiment of the muzzle device and the detail on the proximal end of the baffle. -
FIG. 4 depicts a cross-section of the present embodiment of the muzzle device and the detail on the proximal end of the baffle. -

FIG. 6 depicts a cross-section of the present embodiment of the muzzle device with an integral accessory mounting point at the proximal end with sound suppressor attached. -
FIG. 7 depicts a partial cross-section of a faceted baffle design example. -
FIG. 8 depicts a partial cross-section of a lobed baffle design example. - The invention is a muzzle device that serves to reduce recoil when mounted to a firearm. The muzzle device can also serve as a consumable component when the accessory mounting feature is used to assemble to a sound suppressor. The expanding gasses and particulate that are produced when firing a projectile would impart additional wear on a sound suppressor when mounted without this muzzle device. By acting as a consumable, the integral baffles of the muzzle device will wear over time and can be replaced as needed as opposed to a sound suppressor which is subject to extensive regulations. The present embodiment of this muzzle device utilizes one or more conical baffles arranged to create chambers that allow for gas expansion upon the projectile exiting the muzzle of the barrel. Each chamber created by a baffle allows for gas to expand and act against the baffle surface to reduce recoil and direct gasses and particulate away from the central bore of the device. The angle of the baffle surfaces shall be directed towards the proximal end of the rifle and produce an included angle that can range from 30° up to 180°. In the present embodiment of the baffles the apertures are diametrically the same however other embodiments may include apertures that vary in size and shape from chamber to chamber. Other embodiments of the baffle design features can include a stepped design, lobed, or faceted face. A radial pattern of vent apertures allows for the expanding gasses that proceed the projectile to exit the muzzle device. Each aperture is constructed to optimize the manufacturing process without the use of additional support material. Other embodiments of the vent apertures may be circular or triangular. The present embodiment of the muzzle device is designed to optimize a 3 d printing process, other embodiments may be manufactured with a welded assembly.
