Abstract

A desk with organizational and storage features is disclosed. The desk includes a top surface and an undercarriage storage component attached to an underside of the top surface, with the undercarriage storage compartment including an open face and interior cavity. Multiple legs are attached to an underside of the undercarriage storage component, and a dividing member is formed within the interior cavity to subdivide the interior cavity into multiple compartments with openings formed at the open face. The multiple compartments are formed to retain tools and objects required by students in an organized way to help students stay organized and perform better in school.

CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION

This application claims the benefit of priority of U.S. provisional application No. 63/373,893, filed Aug. 30, 2022, the contents of which are herein incorporated by reference.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to desks and, more particularly, to a compartmentalized desk that improves student organization.
The present invention addresses what are currently disorganized student desks. With conventional desks, textbooks, folders, and papers are stuffed inside the desk in a messy manner, leaving students unable to find items due to a disorganized desk.
Conventional desks all have the same open-face design that allows children to be messy and unorganized which impacts their achievement. They don't work well because they have no function that promotes organization. In fact, their design encourages students to be disorganized.
As can be seen, there is a need for a compartmentalized desk as disclosed herein. The present invention solves this issue by providing a desk with organizational and storage compartments. The present invention thus gives students a place to put all their school-related tools and helps them perform better in school.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

In one aspect of the present invention, a desk with organizational and storage features is provided. The desk comprises a top surface, an undercarriage storage component attached to an underside of the top surface, wherein the undercarriage storage compartment includes an open face and interior cavity, a plurality of legs attached to an underside of the undercarriage storage component, and a dividing member within the interior cavity, wherein the dividing member subdivides the interior cavity into a plurality of compartments with openings formed at the open face.
In another aspect of the present invention, the plurality of compartments includes a first compartment, a second compartment, a third compartment, a fourth compartment, and a fifth compartment.
In another aspect of the present invention, the fourth compartment is arranged to reside directly above the second compartment within the interior cavity, and wherein the second compartment and fourth compartment have substantially the same width and depth.
In another aspect of the present invention, the height of the fourth compartment is less than the height of the second compartment.
In another aspect of the present invention, the fifth compartment is arranged to reside directly above the third compartment within the interior cavity, and wherein the third compartment and fifth compartment have substantially the same width and depth.
In another aspect of the present invention, the height of the fifth compartment is less than the height of the third compartment.
In another aspect of the present invention, the second compartment is arranged to lie between the first compartment and third compartment.
In another aspect of the present invention, the first compartment has a greater height than any one of the second, third, fourth, and fifth compartments.
In another aspect of the present invention, the height of the second and third compartments is substantially the same.
In another aspect of the present invention, the height of the fifth and fourth compartments is substantially the same.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the present invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense but is made merely to illustrate the general principles of the present invention since the scope of the present invention is best defined by the appended claims.
Broadly, an embodiment of the present invention provides a desk with a plurality of compartments within a main storage region and an additional storage area provided below the main storage region.
The present invention gives students a place to put their different school tools. Textbooks have a place. Paperback books have a place. Papers, pencils, computers, and calculators have a place. This all contributes to making students more organized and increasing student performance.
Desks in accordance with the present invention are vastly different and superior to any other conventional desks because the current design of desks that exist allows for students to be disorganized. Desks today have the same open-face design that allows students to stuff materials in any kind of way. The compartmentalized design described herein allow students to be organized.
The desk of the present invention forces students to be organized by giving them a place to put every item they used during a school day. It gives them places to store their work and keeping it neat and organized.
Referring now to FIGS. 1-3 , a desk with organization and storage features in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention is shown. The desk 10 comprises a flat tabletop surface 12 attached to a cuboidal undercarriage storage component with an open face. Four legs 24 project downwardly from the cuboidal undercarriage storage component to uphold the desk 10. The legs 24 are sized to allow a user to sit with their legs underneath the flat tabletop surface 12 and cuboidal undercarriage while using any desired seat, such as a chair 32. Advantageously, the storage component is subdivided into five compartments 14, 16, 18, 20, 22. In some embodiments, the present invention may further include a separate, smaller storage area attached to the cuboidal undercarriage storage component (not shown).
The five compartments 14, 16, 18, 20, 22 include a first compartment 14, a second compartment 16, a third compartment 18, a fourth compartment 20, and a fifth compartment 22. The size, shape, and arrangement of the compartment may be adjusted to needs of a user. In an exemplary embodiment, the first compartment 14 and third compartment 18 may be sized to receive and hold large textbooks 26, 28, the second compartment 16 may be sized to hold miscellaneous objects 30 of varying size, and the fourth compartment 20 and fifth compartment 22 may be sized to retain thin of slender objects, such as pens, pencils, paperwork, folders, laptops, or other similarly shaped objects.
Further, in an exemplary arrangement, the second compartment 16 may be formed laterally between the first compartment 14 and third compartment 18, with the fourth and fifth compartments 20, 22 being formed directly above the second and third compartments 16, 18, respectively. The second compartment 16 may also have a smaller width than either of the first or third compartments 14, 18. In some embodiments, the second and fourth compartments 16, 20 may have substantially the same width, and the third and fifth compartments 18, 22 may have substantially the same width. In other embodiments, the first compartment 14 may have a height equal to the height of the cuboidal undercarriage storage component. Each of the compartments 14, 16, 18, 20, 22 may also be of substantially similar depth, having a depth equal to a depth of the cuboidal undercarriage storage component.
The five compartments 14, 16, 18, 20, 22 may be formed by a substantially rigid dividing member that may be separately or integrally formed with the cuboidal undercarriage storage component. Where the dividing member is separately formed from the cuboidal undercarriage storage component, the dividing member is formed to be easily insertable and removable from within the cuboidal undercarriage storage component.
In use, the flat tabletop surface 12 is the work area or top of the desk. The open-face cuboidal undercarriage storage component has five compartments 14, 16, 18, 20, 22 molded and sectioned off inside of the desk/storage component. Together, these components work together to form a functional unit that more effectively leads to an organized desk. A user may then store books 26, 28 and miscellaneous objects 30 within the compartments 14, 16, 18, 20, 22 of the desk 10, and use the top surface 12 as a working surface after sitting on the chair 32.
In an exemplary embodiment, the desk may be used as follows. Students may use the desk to help them solve their disorganization problems. Students too often can't find assignments or assignments are destroyed because their desks are disorganized and messy. Many students just stuff books, papers, and folders in their desks in any kind of fashion. Things regularly fall out of student desks due to disorganization. The present invention forces students to be more organized by having different compartments for their school items. Therefore, the present invention gives each item a place to be put and remain neat. Organized people perform and achieve better results.
The present invention can be used in any office equipment setting where small desks are used. Any person using a small desk and in need of storage underneath the flat top surface can use the compartmentalized storage area. This also could be used in the office and furniture industry to compartmentalize the insides of dresser drawers and office desk drawers.
In an exemplary embodiment, the desk 10 may be made and assembled as described above and as follows. It will be appreciated by those with skill in the art that the present invention is merely one way of configuring the present invention, and appropriate modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the present disclosure. The desk 10 can be made by casting the flat top surface 12, having a width of about 24 to 28 inches and a depth of about 18 to 20 inches. The flat top surface 12 may be smooth and hard with rounded off and smooth corners. The cuboidal undercarriage storage component is attached to the flat top surface by screws or other known fastening means, and may be formed of a high-grade plastic or metal. The forward-facing or open face part of the cuboidal undercarriage storage component may measure about 22 to 26 inches in width and to 17 inches in depth. The height of the open face portion of the cuboidal undercarriage storage component may measure about 4 to 6 inches. The dividing member is then either integrally formed with or inserted into the cuboidal undercarriage storage component to subdivide the cuboidal undercarriage storage component into the compartments 14, 16, 18, 20, 22. The legs 24 may then be attached to the corners of the cuboidal undercarriage storage component by welding, screws, or other known fastening means and techniques.
An optional compartment (not shown) may be attached to an underside of the cuboidal undercarriage storage compartment. This optional compartment may be have an open face to that faces a right-side of the desk 10. The optional compartment may measure about 13 inches wide, 10 inches deep, and about 2 inches in height. The optional compartment is thus able to provide additional storage for objects such as pens, pencils, paperwork, folders, tablets, laptops, or other similarly shaped objects.
All elements described above are critical aspects in terms of making the present invention better than existing ones. With that being said, certain changes may be made. For example, using metal versus plastic is optional. Elements that could make the invention better are adjustable heights, the top being able to lift up, and different size options. The desks can be made smaller and bigger according to the age and size of the student.
While one or more preferred embodiments are disclosed, many other implementations will occur to one of ordinary skill in the art and are all within the scope of the invention. Each of the various embodiments described above may be combined with other described embodiments in order to provide multiple features. Furthermore, while the preceding describes a number of separate embodiments of the apparatus and method of the present invention, what has been described herein is merely illustrative of applying the principles of the present invention. Other arrangements, methods, modifications, and substitutions by one of ordinary skill in the art are therefore also considered within the scope of the present invention, which is not to be limited except by the claims directed to the present invention.
While apparatuses and methods are described in terms of “comprising,” “containing,” or “including” various components or steps, the apparatuses and methods can also “consist essentially of” or “consist of” the various components and steps. All numbers and ranges disclosed above may vary by some amount. Claims

What is claimed is:

1. A desk with organizational and storage features comprising

a top surface;

an undercarriage storage component attached to an underside of the top surface, wherein the undercarriage storage compartment includes an open face and interior cavity;

a plurality of legs attached to an underside of the undercarriage storage component; and

a dividing member within the interior cavity, wherein the dividing member subdivides the interior cavity into a plurality of compartments with openings formed at the open face.

2. The desk of claim 1, wherein the plurality of compartments includes a first compartment, a second compartment, a third compartment, a fourth compartment, and a fifth compartment.

3. The desk of claim 2, wherein the fourth compartment is arranged to reside directly above the second compartment within the interior cavity, and wherein the second compartment and fourth compartment have substantially the same width and depth.

4. The desk of claim 3, wherein the height of the fourth compartment is less than the height of the second compartment.

5. The desk of claim 2, wherein the fifth compartment is arranged to reside directly above the third compartment within the interior cavity, and wherein the third compartment and fifth compartment have substantially the same width and depth.

6. The desk of claim 5, wherein the height of the fifth compartment is less than the height of the third compartment.

7. The desk of claim 2, wherein the second compartment is arranged to lie between the first compartment and third compartment.

8. The desk of claim 2, wherein the first compartment has a greater height than any one of the second, third, fourth, and fifth compartments.

9. The desk of claim 2, wherein the height of the second and third compartments is substantially the same.

10. The desk of claim 2, wherein the height of the fifth and fourth compartments is substantially the same.
