In the following description, numerous specific details are set forth in order to provide an understanding of the examples. It will be apparent, however, to one of ordinary skill in the art, that the examples may be practiced without limitation to these specific details. In some instances, well known methods and/or structures have not been described in detail so as not to unnecessarily obscure the description of the examples. Furthermore, the examples may be used together in various combinations.
- Throughout the present disclosure, the terms “a” and “an” are intended to denote at least one of a particular element. As used herein, the term “includes” means includes but not limited to, the term “including” means including but not limited to. The term “based on” means based at least in part on.
- Many types of imaging devices, such as multifunction printers, may include control panels. Control panels may provide, for instance, a graphical interface through which users may be provided with graphical information. The control panels may also provide the graphical interface to enable the users to interact with the printing devices, for instance, through touch input. In some examples, the control panels may be movable to, for instance, reduce the size, e.g., footprints, of the imaging devices. The sizes of the printing devices may be reduced to make shipping and/or movement of the printing devices simpler and more efficient. In some instances, retractable or “slide-out” control panel designs may provide improved aesthetics due to elimination of the relatively large “nosecones” that non-sliding control panel designs would be mounted to in certain multifunction printer designs.
- In some examples, external hardware devices, such as physical keyboards, keypads, touch pads, network devices, a base for a hardware device, and/or the like, may be used in addition to the control panels. In some instances, the nosecones to which the control panels would be mounted may be used to house the external hardware devices. As such, a disadvantage in eliminating the nosecones may be that the storage space to house the external hardware devices is lost.
- Disclosed herein are control panel assemblies that may be movable between retracted positions and extended positions. Also discussed herein are apparatuses, such as imaging devices, that include the control panel assemblies. Particularly, disclosed herein are control panel assemblies that include display panels and input devices connected directly to the display panels, such as keyboards, keypads, touch pads, network devices, a base for a hardware device, and/or the like.
- As discussed herein, a control panel assembly may be coupled to a body of an electronic device, such as an imaging device. The control panel assembly may include a base plate coupled to the body and a display panel rotatably coupled to the base plate. An input device, such as a keyboard, may be rotatably coupled to the display panel. In some examples, the control panel assembly may move from a first position in which the display panel is retracted in the body to a second position in which the display panel and the input device are extended out from the body. The display panel may be rotatable relative to the base plate and the input device may be rotatable relative to the display panel.

It should be understood that theexample apparatus 100 may include additional features and that some of the features described herein may be removed and/or modified without departing from the scope of theexample apparatus 100. - As shown in
FIG. 1A , theapparatus 100 may include thebody 102 and thecontrol panel assembly 104, which may be in a retracted state. Thecontrol panel assembly 104 may be coupled to thebody 102. Thecontrol panel assembly 104 may include thedisplay panel 106, theinput device 108 coupled to thedisplay panel 106, and abase plate 110, which may support thedisplay panel 106 and theinput device 108. - In some examples, the
input device 108 may be an external hardware device, such as a keyboard, a keypad, a touch pad, a touch screen display panel, a network device, a base for a hardware device, and/or the like. In some examples, the base for a hardware device may be a frame or housing to which an external hardware device may be physically mounted. The base may have a recess having a predefined shape to receive a certain external hardware device. The base may include a data connection port, such as a USB port, a data cable, and/or the like, to electrically connect the external hardware device. The external hardware device may be mounted to thedisplay panel 106 of thecontrol panel assembly 104 via the base. - In some examples, a
single input device 108 ormultiple input devices 108 may be connected to thedisplay panel 106. For instance, in case theinput device 108 is a keyboard, a width of the keyboard may be similar to a width of thedisplay panel 106. In this instance, it may be difficult to connectadditional input devices 108 in addition to the keyboard due to the limited space. In other instances, forinput devices 108 that have widths that are less than the width of thedisplay panel 106, such as keypads, touch pads, a base for a hardware device, or the like, a sufficient amount of space may be available to accommodate anotherinput device 108. For instance, the shape of the opening may match a cross-sectional shape of thedisplay panel 106 and thebase plate 110, through which thecontrol panel assembly 104 may be inserted into thebody 102. - In some examples, in the retracted state, the
display panel 106 may be retracted to a first position in which thedisplay panel 106 is at least partially retracted in thebody 102. In the first position, afront surface 111 of thedisplay panel 106 may face upwards such that at least a portion of thedisplay panel 106 may be visible. Thedisplay panel 106 may display a modified graphical user interface based on a size of the visible area of thedisplay panel 106. As such, thedisplay panel 106 may display information even when thedisplay panel 106 is stowed in the retracted state. The modified graphical user interface that is displayed in the retracted state may, for instance, provide space savings, improved access to print outputs, a simplified user interface for commonly used features, and/or the like. In some examples, thedisplay panel 106 may be partially retracted at various predefined depths, for instance, correlated to different sizes of the visible/active area of thedisplay panel 106, or thedisplay panel 106 may be fully retracted into thebody 102, in which case thedisplay panel 106 may be inactive. - The
input device 108 may be coupled to thedisplay panel 106.
