Definitions
- Water pipes have been known for millennia as a tool in smoking various materials or substances such as dried plant materials (for example, tobacco, cannabis , herbs, etc.).
- Simple water pipes are sometimes referred to as bongs.
- a representative example of a simple bong is illustrated schematically in FIG. 1 .
- the bong is a smoking device in which smoke from a burned material is filtered through water which cools the smoke and may filter some particulates and potentially harmful chemicals (for example, carcinogens).
- Example of materials used in forming bongs include, for example, glass, polymeric materials (plastics, silicones or polysiloxanes, acrylics, etc.), wood etc.
- the smoking materials are placed in the bowl, which is connected to a generally cylindrical tube via a stem.
- the tube is connected to a base at a first end and is partially filled with water to a point above the interface between the tube and the stem.
- the user inhales smoke from an opening or mouthpiece positioned on a second end of the tube.
- bongs are shared between a plurality of people to smoke the contents of the bowl. Sharing a bong, however, presents a significant risk of spread of disease (via bacteria, viruses, etc.) as each user places his or her mouth on the mouthpiece when using the bong. With the COVID-19 epidemic, there has been a renewed focus upon stopping the spread of disease. In the use of bonus, some users will attempt to wipe the mouthpiece of a bona between switching users, but this may not be effective in significantly reducing risk of disease spread. Use of cleaning solutions for cleaning/disinfection may also introduce harmful or distasteful substances to the mouthpiece.
- a device for use in connection with a water pipe or bong which includes a (rigid) tube and an opening in connection with the tube via which a user may draw smoke from the bong into the user's mouth, includes a body including a first section configured to form a removable, sealed connection with the opening.
- the first section includes at least one port to place the first section in fluid connection with the bona.
- the device further includes a second section connected to the first section and a plurality of extending rigid tubes.
- a first end of each of the plurality of extending rigid tubes is configured to be placed in fluid connection with the second section to be placed in fluid connection with the at least one port.

- one or more of the plurality of extending rigid tubes is removably connectible to the second section.
- Each of the plurality of extending rigid tubes may, for example, be removably connectible to the second section.
- the first section is configured to form a sealed connection with bongs of varying size.
- the first section includes a plurality of sealing flanges of differing diameter, wherein the sealing flanges increase in diameter from a lower end of the first section to an upper end of the first section (in the orientation when connected to a bong).

- FIG. 10 thus illustrates another embodiment of a device or system 10 c hereof which operates very similarly to devices 10 , 10 a , and 10 b when combined with a bong.
- a port section 50 c is formed integrally or monolithically with rigid tube 130 c of water pipe or bong 100 c and need not be removable therefrom.
- Components of device 10 c are numbered similarly to like components of devices 10 , 10 a , 10 b with the addition of the designation “c” to the end of the reference number.

Simple water pipes are sometimes referred to as bongs. A representative example of a simple bong is illustrated schematically in
FIG. 1 . The bong is a smoking device in which smoke from a burned material is filtered through water which cools the smoke and may filter some particulates and potentially harmful chemicals (for example, carcinogens). Example of materials used in forming bongs include, for example, glass, polymeric materials (plastics, silicones or polysiloxanes, acrylics, etc.), wood etc. - Referring to
FIG. 1 , the smoking materials are placed in the bowl, which is connected to a generally cylindrical tube via a stem. The tube is connected to a base at a first end and is partially filled with water to a point above the interface between the tube and the stem. The user inhales smoke from an opening or mouthpiece positioned on a second end of the tube. - Often, bongs are shared between a plurality of people to smoke the contents of the bowl.
- It is desirable to develop devices, systems and/or methods to facilitate the use of simple waterpipes such as bongs by multiple users.
- The present devices, systems, and methods, along with the attributes and attendant advantages thereof, will best be appreciated and understood in view of the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.

In that regard, one ormore ports 54 a may be provided onsecond section 50 a ofbody 30 a via which an extendingrigid tube 60 a can be placed in removable fluid communication with the chamber withinsecond section 50 a. Port(s) 54 a may be sealed (for example, via a resilient flap or sealing member, a cap or plug) when an extendingrigid tube 60 a is not connected thereto. Alternatively, a number ofports 54 a′(FIG. 3 ) may be provided on the distal ends of extendingconduits 53 a which extend fromsecond section 50 a to provide for connection of extendingrigid tubes 60 a thereto (for example, via a friction fit, threading, or other connective fit). Such extendingconduits 53 a may be sealed/capped (either manually or automatically) when not in use. Extendingrigid tube 60 a and mouthpieces 62 a hereof may, for example, may be formed from or include a polymeric material such as polycarbonate, silicone (for example, platinum-cured silicone), etc. - Using removably connectible extending
rigid tubes 60 a in connection withbody 40 a enables sharing of a bowl by more individuals than the number ofports second section 50 a without multiple individuals having to share a single extendingrigid tube 60 a/mouthpiece 62 a. In that regard, each individual may be provided with their own extendingrigid tube 60 a. Such extendingrigid tubes 60 a may be personalized for an individual (for example, in tube form, mouthpiece 62 a type, tube length, color, etc.).
