Abstract

An improved riflescope mounting system for mounting a riflescope to a rifle having a line along the length of the bottom of the riflescope and a matching vertical notch line on the bottom of the mounting rings wherein when a user mounts the scope, the user just needs to align the riflescope line with the matching vertical notch line on the mounting rings before securing the mounting rings around said riflescope is disclosed.

Description

    CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION
  • The present application claims the benefit of previously filed co-pending Provisional Patent Application, Ser. No. 63/308,616, filed on Feb. 10, 2022.
  • FIELD OF THE INVENTION
  • The device and method of this disclosure belongs to the field of riflescopes and similar sighting devices. More specifically it is an improved mounting system that replaces leveling devises with a marked line system to ensure proper mounting on a rifle, without the use of other technical means and tools intended to align planes.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • Over the years, modern advances in hunting equipment have enhanced the sport, providing hunters with increased success. Among these products, scopes used on high-powered rifles offer long-range targeting capabilities with exceptional accuracies. However, as with most precision equipment, they require meticulous set-up and calibration. When you mount a riflescope, it is important that the riflescope is aligned with the rifle at a 90-degree angle so that the reticle is properly aligned. Should the scope be removed from the rifle, this calibration must be performed all over again, each time. In the prior art to achieve this proper alignment the person mounting the scope uses a leveling device (with a bubble) in a mounting fixture to ensure that the scope is aligned with the rifle when securing it with mounting rings or mechanical devices to assist in alignment. These are cumbersome processes, and the novel system of this disclosure greatly simplifies the mounting process.
  • As discussed above while there have been attempts to provide various releasable mounting mechanisms and quick-release scope mounts, they typically do not provide for repeatable accuracy related to the particular orientation of the scope within the mount and can over time develop “play” as parts begin to wear. Additionally, various other devices attempt to provide adjustment mechanisms between the scope mount and the scope, such that once the scope is mounted to the rifle it can be reoriented to provide an accurate sight picture or so windage and elevation adjustments can be made.
  • Examples of these devices can be seen by reference in the following U.S. patents: U.S. Pat. No. 2,767,473 issued to Craven discloses a detachable scope mount for guns; U.S. Pat. No. 3,037,288 issued to Detrich et al. discloses a magnetic mount for gun sights; U.S. Pat. No. 4,249,315 issued to Hopson, III discloses a gun scope mount system; U.S. Pat. No. 5,771,595 issued to Bell discloses a scope tube adjusting and locking device; and, U.S. Pat. No. 7,062,876 issued to Wilson discloses a rifle scope mounting means.
  • U.S. Pat. No. 8,151,508 issued to Moore discloses a rifle scope alignment device that includes a telescopic sight and a mount to position and align a crosshair reticule in a repeatable manner. The device includes a mounting rail, a pair of clamping brackets, and a scope. The mounting rail is coupled to a barrel of a firearm, preferably a rifle, and provides attachment of the clamping brackets. At least one lower clamping bracket has a spring-loaded ball bearing designed to engage a corresponding slot machined into an exterior of the scope, again using a mechanical device subject to wear that can develop play.
  • Thus there is a need for an improved riflescope mounting system that facilitates a user's ability to quickly and properly mount a riflescope on a rifle that is not subject to wear and play.
  • BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • What is disclosed is an improved riflescope mounting system having a line along the length of the bottom of the riflescope and a matching vertical notch line on the bottom of the mounting rings. To mount the scope, a user just needs to align the scope line with the ring line before securing the rings. This simple solution saves time and simplifies a previously cumbersome process. The undeniable advantage of this invention is the repeatability, possibility of fitting the optical device into mounting system without any other technical means and tools which is an advantage in field conditions. The user is no longer forced to mount the weapon system perpendicular to the earth's surface provided, that the base for mounting on the weapon system is perpendicular to the axis of the barrel's bore.

  • FIG. 2 shows the improved riflescope with the matching mounting line.
  • DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
  • When a user mounts a riflescope on a rifle, it is important that the riflescope is aligned with the rifle at a 90-degree angle so that the reticle is properly aligned. The prior art method to achieve this proper alignment involves a user mounting the scope using a leveling device (typically with a bubble) in a mounting fixture to ensure that the scope is aligned with the rifle when securing the scope with mounting rings, a cumbersome process. The novel system disclosed in this application solves this problem.
  • The preferred embodiment of the improved riflescope mounting system of this disclosure as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 comprises a riflescope (1) having a riflescope line (3) along the length of the bottom of the riflescope (1) and mounting rings (2) having a matching vertical notch line (4) on a center lower ring face of the mounting rings (2). To mount the riflescope (1), a user just needs to align the riflescope line (3) on the riflescope (1) with the vertical notch line (4) on each of the mounting rings (2) before securing the mounting rings (2) around said riflescope. This simple solution saves time and simplifies a previously cumbersome process.
  • Since certain changes may be made in the above-described improved riflescope mounting system without departing from the scope of the invention herein involved, it is intended that all matter contained in the description thereof or shown in the accompanying figure shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

Claims (1)

What is claimed is:
1. An improved riflescope mounting system using two or more mounting rings for mounting a riflescope to a rifle comprising:
said riflescope having a riflescope line along a part of the bottom of the riflescope;
each of said two or more mounting rings having a vertical notch line on a center lower ring face of each of said two or more mounting rings that matches said line along a part of the bottom of said riflescope; and,
wherein to mount said riflescope a user aligns said riflescope line on said riflescope with said vertical notch line on each of said two or more mounting rings before securing said two or more mounting rings around said riflescope.
