As shown inFIG. 1 , therocker assembly 1 comprises twospring mechanisms 4, each being connected to therespective rocker mechanism 3 and thebase 2. Eachspring mechanism 4 is connected to a corresponding rocker mechanism 3 (as will be described in more detail below) of therocker assembly 1 to assist a rocker member of therocker mechanism 3 in returning from a rocking position to a rest position (i.e., a resting or equilibrium position). - Referring in particular to
FIG. 2 , eachspring mechanism 4 comprises twomounting plates 5 opposed at a vertical spacing and twosprings 6 connected between the twomounting plates 5, each of themounting plates 5 being provided with two sets of holding structures for holding each of thesprings 6 in place on themounting plate 5, wherein aspacer 7 is provided between each of upper andlower mounting plates 5 and eachspring 6. The spacer makes it possible to avoid a direct contact between thespring 6, in particular at least one turn of the spring, and themounting plate 5 during the rocking process, which greatly reduces the noise generated during the rocking process. To better reduce the noise, thespacer 7 preferably takes the form of a plastic washer. Of course, spacers of other forms or materials that are capable of reducing noise in the art are also possible. - In order to hold the
springs 6 and thespacers 7 stably and reliably on themounting plates 5, each set of holding structures on eachmounting plate 5 comprises aclip portion 8 and locatingprotrusions 9 formed on themounting plate 5, and the end turns 10, 10′ of thespring 6 are clipped by theclip portion 8 and positioned by the locatingprotrusions 9. According to the schematic structural view for the specific embodiment of themounting plate 5 shown inFIG. 4 , themounting plate 5 is provided with aclip portion 8 and two locatingprotrusions 9, wherein theclip portion 8 is formed by deforming a portion of the material of themounting plate 5. The locatingprotrusion 9 may be formed integrally with themounting plate 5. It is to be understood that other forms of clip portions and locating protrusions (e.g., other clipping or locating formations attached to the mounting plate) are also possible, as long as the holding and locating functions intended by the present invention can be achieved. - Referring back to
FIGS. 2 and 4 , eachmounting plate 5 is laterally provided with twolateral openings 11 to allow the end turns of thesprings 6 and thespacers 7 to pass at least partially therethrough and be held on themounting plate 5. - Referring particularly to
FIG. 5 , thespacer 7 comprises afirst portion 7 a and asecond portion 7 b contiguous to and opposite to thefirst portion 7 a, so as to form agap 12 therebetween for receiving the edge of themounting plate 5 at the lateral opening 11 (seeFIG. 2 ). - As shown in
FIGS. 2 and 3 , thefirst portion 7 a of thespacer 7 passes through the correspondinglateral opening 11 and engages with theclip portion 8 and the two locatingprotrusions 9 provided on the mounting plate via thenotch 23 and the two throughholes 24, respectively, provided on the first portion, and thesecond portion 7 b is pressed against another surface of themounting plate 5 without any clip portion or locating protrusion. In this way, the spacer can be stably and reliably held on the mounting plate. - Preferably, the
spacer 7 may be formed by bending a plate sheet, wherein the plate sheet may be provided with thenotch 23 and the throughhole 24 penetrating through both the first portion and the second portion, formed by folding the plate sheet in half. As such, there is no need to distinguish between the first portion and the second portion when assembling thespacer 7 on themounting plate 5, while facilitating the processing and saving the cost. Of course, other spacer structures are also possible, as long as the function intended by the present invention can be achieved. - Referring to
FIG. 2 , after thespacers 7 are mounted on themounting plates 5, the end turns 10, 10′ of thesprings 6 can be partially inserted into themounting plates 5 via the correspondinglateral openings 11, such that a portion of the end turn is clipped by theclip portion 8 on the one hand and positioned by the locatingprotrusions 9 on the other hand. In this way, the end turn of thespring 6 is spaced from the upper surface of themounting plate 5 by a first portion of thespacer 7, and the turn adjacent to the end turn is spaced from the lower surface of the mounting plate by a second portion of thespacer 7. As such, two springs are arranged between a pair of mounting plates spaced from each other, and a spacer is provided between each of the upper and lower mounting plates and each spring. The assembledspring mechanism 4 is shown inFIG. 2 . Twospring mechanisms 4 are arranged in therocker assembly 1 as shown inFIG. 1 , such that thespring mechanisms 4 are connected to therocker mechanisms 3 to assist the rocker mechanisms in rocking and returning. - In a specific embodiment of the
rocker assembly 1 as shown inFIG. 1 , thebase 2 comprises twosupport tubes 13 arranged at a spacing in the horizontal direction and twobase plates 14 symmetrically disposed at the left and right sides of the twosupport tubes 13, eachrocker mechanism 3 being placed on arespective base plate 14. Eachrocker mechanism 3 comprises arocker member 15, to which amovable member 16 is attached, wherein themovable member 16 can move as therocker member 15 swings on thebase plate 14 about a fulcrum. The fulcrum may be a point where the bottom surface ofrocker member 15 contacts thebase plate 14. As can be seen inFIG. 1 , therocker member 15 comprises a pair of inclined surfaces connected via said fulcrum (not specifically shown), wherein a firstinclined surface 15 a (located at the rear end of the rocker) has a greater inclination than a secondinclined surface 15 b (located at the front end of the rocker) to allow a user of the rocking chair to rock within a range of angles using the first inclined surface. - Each
movable member 16 is connected to acorresponding rocker member 15 via anintermediate bracket 17, and between two symmetrically arrangedintermediate brackets 17, there are connected two connectingrods 18 which are offset both horizontally and vertically. Thus, there is a spacing both in the horizontal direction and in the vertical direction between the two connecting rods. - The mounting
plates 5 of eachspring mechanism 4 are provided with mounting holes 19 (seeFIGS. 2 and 3 ) for screw elements, wherein the first mounting plate on the base side inFIG. 1 is fixedly connected to therespective base plate 14 via screw elements 20 (such as bolts or the like) passing through the mounting holes, while the second mounting plate on the connecting rod side is fixedly connected to an intermediate connectingplate 21 via the screw elements passing through the mounting holes, wherein the intermediate connectingplate 21 is inserted horizontally into the vertical spacing between the two connectingrods 18, so as to be connected to the two connectingrods 18. - A pair of
stops 22 is provided symmetrically on the left and right sides of one (i.e., thesupport tube 13 located on the rear side of the rocker) of thesupport tubes 13, intended to abut against the correspondingmovable member 16 to limit its further movement. - When a user applies a slight backward force to the rocking chair, the force will be transmitted through a series of links to the
intermediate bracket 17 and then to therocker member 15. Therocker member 15 will rock rearwardly about the fulcrum under the action of the force until themovable member 16 contacts thestop 22. - It will be appreciated that the
spring 6 in thespring mechanism 4 connected with therocker mechanism 3 is in a compressed state in the rest position. When therocker member 15 swings backwards, the rear spring in the spring mechanism will continue to be compressed via one of the connectingrods 18 and the front spring will be stretched in the opposite direction via another connectingrod 18. When therocker member 15 needs to return from the rocking position to the rest position, thecompressed spring 6 on the rear side will provide a certain restoring force to assist in the returning of therocker member 15. - It can be seen that the rocker assembly according to the present invention includes very few structural components, is very compact in structure, and can be adapted to various types of rocking chairs. In addition, the spring mechanism is provided with a spacer to avoid direct contact between at least one turn of the spring and the mounting plate, which significantly reduces the noise while allowing a greater rocking angle.
- It should be noted that the above embodiments are merely illustrative, and the present invention is not limited to these embodiments. Upon consideration of the present specification, those skilled in the art can make various changes and modifications without departing from the scope or spirit of the present invention. The true scope of the present invention is determined by the claims and their equivalents.
