Description

    FIELD OF THE INVENTION
  • The present disclosure is in the field of bedding and home furnishings. More particularly, the present disclosure provides systems and methods of a pillow with a pocket for placement of at least one pouch holding additional fill that increases the height and fluffiness of the pillow and may enhance user experience.
  • BACKGROUND
  • Pillows support the body at rest for comfort, therapy, or decoration. Types of pillows include throw pillows, body pillows, decorative pillows and many more. Pillows that aid sleeping are a form of bedding that supports the head and neck. Other types of pillows are designed to support the body when lying down or sitting. There are also pillows that consider human body shape for increased comfort during sleep. Decorative pillows used on people, couches or chairs are sometimes referred to as cushions.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION
  • Systems and methods described herein provide a pillow with a sealable pocket in the middle of the pillow. The pocket is used for insertion and placement of at least one fabric pouch containing additional fill that increases the height and softness of the pillow. A user may insert the at least one pouch with an amount of fill within and positioned in the pocket in manners that fit the user’s needs for softness, height, and other requirements. The pocket may be closed with zipper, Velcro, buttons, snaps, and/or other fastening mechanism.
  • The pocket is large enough for insertion of multiple pouches. In an embodiment, the pocket may be outfit with fixed or moveable internal partitions that segment the pocket into sub-pockets and allow for placement of one or multiple pouches in each sub-pocket.
  • In an embodiment, the pouch or pouches need not be used, and a user may instead insert pillow fill directly into the pocket. The pillow has three sections, top and bottom, prefilled and permanently sealed, with the top and bottom permanently fused. An empty middle section comprises the pocket or an envelope that a user may fill on their own with pillow fill that is an established commodity.
  • Turning to the figure, FIG. 1 is a diagram of a pillow with adjustable pocket for pouch insert promoting enhanced comfort according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. A system 100 is provided comprising upper layer 102, lower layer 104, and pocket 106. The pocket 106 may be of different sizes. Also shown in FIG. 1 is a partition 108 and a space 110 for placement of at least one pouch. While only one partition 108 and one space 110 are specifically pointed out in FIG. 1 , numerous partitions 108 and spaces 110 may be present. Partitions 108 and their accompanying spaces 110 are optional. While the pocket 106 is shown in FIG. 1 at an end section of the pillow, in embodiments the pocket 106 may be situated at a side section of the pillow. In embodiments, there may be more than one pocket 106 in the pillow. In embodiments, the pillow may not be rectangular in shape as is the case in FIG. 1 . In embodiments, the pillow may not be used in bedding and may instead be used in other applications such as in a living room or television room, in providing comfort for pets, or for lumbar support in a motor vehicle or aircraft.
  • In an embodiment, a pillow of adjustable thickness comprising a first padded layer, a second padded layer, and a space of flexible volume between the layers. The space receives insertion of a pouch containing additional fill, increases its volume and expands the layers outward based on the insertion, and based on removal of the pouch, decreases its volume, and facilitates return of layers to original position. The space is a temporarily sealable pocket. The first and second layers are of like size and like shape and are permanently attached as a single unit. Flexibility of the volume promotes insertion of multiple pouches. The space is optionally segmented into multiple subspaces via placement of fabric partitions within the space. The subspaces promote insertion of multiple pouches. Alternatively, the pouch is not used, and the additional fill is placed directly into the space.
  • In another embodiment, a cushioning device of adjustable thickness is provided comprising a padded fabric envelope with an accessible interior space of flexible volume. The device also comprises a binding mechanism for temporarily sealing the space and at least one pouch for placement in the space. The at least one pouch contains additional fill. Placement of the at least one pouch promotes increased thickness of the padded fabric envelope. The binding mechanism comprises at least one of a zipper, Velcro, buttons, and snaps. The space is optionally segmented into multiple subspaces via placement of fabric partitions within the space. The subspaces promote insertion of multiple pouches.
  • In yet another embodiment, a comforting cushion is provided comprising a pillow with an internal pocket between a first padded layer and a second padded layer. The cushion also comprises at least one fabric pouch containing additional fill, the pouch directed to temporary placement in the pocket and a binding device for temporarily sealing the internal pocket. The layers may be of like size and of like shape and are permanently attached as a single unit. The binding device comprises at least one of a zipper, Velcro, buttons, and snaps. The pocket is optionally segmented into multiple sub-pockets via placement of fabric partitions within the pocket. The sub-pockets promote placement of multiple pouches. Alternatively, the pouch is not used, and the additional fill is placed directly into the pocket.
