Abstract
Description
- The present application claims priority to, and the benefit of, U.S. Provisional Application No. 63/230,358, which was filed on Aug. 6, 2021 and is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.
- The present invention relates generally to the field of hats. More specifically, the present invention relates to a hat sweatband tape device comprised of an inner core that houses a roll-like body and a peelable adhesive layer. The inner core may further be absorbent and/or moisture wicking to absorb or wick away excess sweat, and is also preferably padded for comfort. To apply the device to a hat, a user can remove the peelable adhesive layer and place the adhesive bottom surface on or behind the sweatband of a hat. Accordingly, the present disclosure makes specific reference thereto. Nonetheless, it is to be appreciated that aspects of the present invention are also equally applicable to other like applications, devices and methods of manufacture.
- Baseball hats and other similar hats typically have a sweatband that absorbs sweat and stops sweat from falling down onto the forehead and eyes of a user. However, over time hat sweatbands can become incredibly dirty. Once a sweatband becomes dirty, it is often exceedingly difficult to clean. Therefore, many users replace an entire hat when the sweatband becomes dirty. Further, after a prolonged period of time, hat sweatbands may lose their absorbent properties. As a result, the sweatband will no longer prevent sweat from collecting on the forehead and running down into the eyes of the user, which is uncomfortable and painful. In either instance, the entire hat must be replaced, which is undesirable if a user has a particular sentimental, monetary or functional value to the user.
- Therefore, there exists a long-felt need in the art for a device that allows a user to preserve the functional ability of the sweatband of a hat. There also exists a long-felt need in the art for a hat sweatband tape device that allows a user to preserve the functional ability of the sweatband of a hat, without requiring the permanent modification of the hat. Further, there exists a long-felt need in the art for a hat sweatband tape device that can universally be applied to any hat.
- The subject matter disclosed and claimed herein, in one embodiment thereof, comprises a hat sweatband tape device. The device is comprised of an inner core that houses a roll-like body, which is preferably manufactured from a fabric material. The material may further be absorbent and/or moisture wicking to absorb or wick away excess sweat and is also preferably padded for comfort. The body material is preferably rectangular in shape and is stored on a paper or cardboard-based, circular inner core. The bottom surface of the body further has a peelable adhesive layer. To apply the device to a hat, a user can unroll a portion of the body from the inner core to obtain the desired length of the body for use, and then cut or tear the body to said length. If torn, the tear would preferably happen along a perforation. Then, a user can remove the peelable cover layer and place the adhesive's bottom surface on or behind the sweatband or in another interior area of a hat.
- In this manner, the hat sweatband tape device of the present invention accomplishes all of the forgoing objectives and provides a hat sweatband tape device that allows a user to restore the function of a sweat band of a hat in a universal and non-permanent manner, therefore preserving the functionality of a hat and avoiding the cost and undesirable outcome of replacing a hat due to a worn-out sweatband. In addition, the device can be removed and replaced as necessary when dirty. Accordingly, the hat sweatband tape device overcomes the limitations of existing sweatband hat structures known in the art.
- The following presents a simplified summary in order to provide a basic understanding of some aspects of the disclosed innovation. This summary is not an extensive overview, and it is not intended to identify key/critical elements or to delineate the scope thereof. Its sole purpose is to present some general concepts in a simplified form as a prelude to the more detailed description that is presented later.
- The subject matter disclosed and claimed herein, in one embodiment thereof, comprises a hat sweatband tape device. The device is comprised of an inner core that houses a roll-like body, which is preferably manufactured from a fabric material. The material may further be absorbent and/or moisture wicking to absorb or wick away excess sweat, and is also preferably padded for comfort. The body material is preferably rectangular in shape, and is stored on a paper or cardboard-based, circular inner core.
- The body further has a top surface and a bottom surface, wherein the top surface may be comprised of a plurality of indicia such as, but not limited to, patterns, logos, emblems, images, symbols, designs, letters, words, characters, animals, advertisements, brands, etc. The top surface and/or body may also be any suitable color known in the art. The bottom surface is adhesive, such that the device can adhere to the sweatband of a hat on the interior of the hat. However, when stored on the inner core, the body has a peelable cover layer attached to the bottom surface. The cover layer can then be peeled away from the bottom surface to expose the adhesive, and to allow the bottom surface to be applied to a sweatband of a hat.
- To apply the device, a user first unrolls a portion of the body from the inner core to obtain the desired length of the body for use, and then cuts or tear the body to said length. Next, a user can remove the peelable cover layer, and then places the adhesive bottom surface on or behind the sweatband or in another interior area of a hat.
- Accordingly, the hat sweatband tape device of the present invention is particularly advantageous as it allows a user to restore the function of a sweat band of a hat in a universal and non-permanent manner. In this fashion, the device can be used to preserve the functionality of a hat and to avoid the cost and undesirable outcome of replacing a hat due to a worn-out sweatband. In addition, the device can be removed and replaced as necessary when dirty. Accordingly, the hat sweatband tape device overcomes the limitations of existing sweatband hat structures known in the art.

FIG. 2 illustrates a perspective view of one potential embodiment of the hat sweatband tape device of the present invention with the adhesive layer removed in accordance with the disclosed architecture; and -
FIG. 3 illustrates a perspective view of one potential embodiment of the hat sweatband tape device of the present invention applied to an interior of a hat in accordance with the disclosed architecture. - The innovation is now described with reference to the drawings, wherein like reference numerals are used to refer to like elements throughout. In the following description, for purposes of explanation, numerous specific details are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding thereof. It may be evident, however, that the innovation can be practiced without these specific details. In other instances, well-known structures and devices are shown in block diagram form in order to facilitate a description thereof. Various embodiments are discussed hereinafter. It should be noted that the figures are described only to facilitate the description of the embodiments. They are not intended as an exhaustive description of the invention and do not limit the scope of the invention. Additionally, an illustrated embodiment need not have all the aspects or advantages shown. Thus, in other embodiments, any of the features described herein from different embodiments may be combined.
- As noted above, there is a long-felt need in the art for a device that allows a user to preserve the functional ability of the sweatband of a hat. There also exists a long-felt need in the art for a hat sweatband tape device that accomplishes this objective, without requiring the permanent modification of the hat. Further, there exists a long-felt need in the art for a hat sweatband tape device that can be universally applied to any suitable hat.
- The present invention, in one exemplary embodiment, is comprised of a hat sweatband tape device comprised of an inner core that houses a roll-like body, which is preferably manufactured from a fabric material. Furthermore, the material may be absorbent and/or moisture wicking. As such, the material absorbs and/or wicks away excess sweat and is also preferably padded for comfort. The body further comprises a top surface and a bottom surface, wherein the top surface may be comprised of a plurality of indicia such as, but not limited to, patterns, logos, emblems, images, symbols, designs, letters, words, characters, animals, advertisements, brands, etc. In addition, the top surface and/or the body may also be any suitable color known in the art. The bottom surface is also adhesive, such that the device can adhere to the sweatband of a hat, or any other suitable position on the interior of the hat. The bottom adhesive layer also has a peelable cover layer attached to its bottom surface. When applying the device, the cover layer is peeled away from the bottom surface to expose the adhesive, and then the device is secured to the sweatband of a hat.
- In application, a user first unrolls a portion of the body from the inner core to obtain the desired length of the body for use, and then cuts or tear the body to said length. Next, a user can remove the peelable cover layer and place the adhesive bottom surface on or behind the sweatband or in another interior area of the hat.
- Accordingly, the hat sweatband tape device of the present invention is particularly advantageous as it allows a user to restore the function of a sweat band of a hat in a universal and non-permanent manner. In this fashion, the device can be used to preserve the functionality of a hat and avoid the cost and undesirable outcoming of replacing a hat due to a worn-out sweatband. In addition, the device can be removed and replaced as necessary when dirty. Accordingly, the hat sweatband tape device overcomes the limitations of existing sweatband hat structures known in the art.
- Referring initially to the drawings,
FIG. 1 illustrates a perspective view of one embodiment of the hatsweatband tape device 100 of the present invention. Thedevice 100 is comprised of aninner core 112 that houses a roll-like body 110 that is removably-stored around theinner core 112. Thebody 110 is preferably manufactured from a fabric such as, but not limited to, vinyl, canvas, cashmere, chenille, chiffon, cotton, damask, jersey, lace, linen, wool, modal, polyester, satin, silk, spandex, suede, tweed, twill, velvet, acrylic, modacrylic, nylon, polypropylene, polyurethane, polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, vinylidene, benzoate, aramid, rayon, acetate, triacetate, etc., or any combination thereof, or any other suitable material as is known in the art. Further, the roll-like body 110 material may be absorbent and/or moisture wicking to absorb or wick away excess sweat from the user. Thebody 110 material is also preferably padded for comfort based on a user's wants and/or needs. As noted, thebody 110 material is preferably rectangular in shape and is stored on a paper or cardboard-based circular,inner core 112, as a long continuous strip. In differing embodiments, the width and length of the roll-like body 110 may vary in order to allow thedevice 100 to be applied to the interior 12 area ofhats 10 of differing sizes. In further differing embodiments, thebody 110 may be provided in predetermined lengths for individualized use. For example, the predetermined length may be 12″ and individually wrapped, though other lengths are also contemplated. - The roll-
like body 110 further comprises atop surface 120. Thetop surface 120 may be comprised of a plurality ofindicia 122 such as, but not limited to, patterns, logos, emblems, images, symbols, designs, letters, words, characters, animals, advertisements, brands, etc., or any other suitable indicia as is known in the art. Thetop surface 120 and/or roll-like body 110 may also be any suitable color as is known in the art. -
FIG. 2 illustrates a perspective view of one embodiment of the hatsweatband tape device 100 of the present invention with the adhesive layer removed. Thedevice 100 comprises a roll-like body 110 with atop surface 120 and abottom surface 130. Thetop surface 120 may be comprised of a plurality ofindicia 122 such as, but not limited to, patterns, logos, emblems, images, symbols, designs, letters, words, characters, animals, advertisements, brands, etc., or any other suitable indicia as is known in the art. Thetop surface 120 and/orbody 110 may also be any suitable color as is known in the art. Thebottom surface 130 is made up of any suitable adhesive material as is known in the art, such that thedevice 100 can removably stick to thesweatband 14 of an interior 12 of thehat 10, or any other suitable interior surface of thehat 10. Further, when stored on and/or around theinner core 112, the roll-like body 110 has apeelable cover layer 140 removably-attached to thebottom surface 130. Thepeelable cover layer 140 is any suitable cover sheet or backing sheet as is known in the art, which allows the roll-like body 110 to be stored in a roll. Further, when a user desires to apply thedevice 100 to asweatband 14, thepeelable cover layer 140 is peeled away from the roll-like body 110 to expose the adhesivebottom surface 130. -
FIG. 3 illustrates a perspective view of one embodiment of the hatsweatband tape device 100 of the present invention applied to an interior 12 of a hat 10 (shown as prior art). As stated supra, thedevice 100 can be applied around the circumference of the interior 12 of ahat 10, in front of, on or behind the existingsweatband 14 of thehat 10. To apply thedevice 100, a user first unrolls a portion of thebody 110 from theinner core 112 to obtain the desired length of thebody 110 for use. Then, a user can cut or tear thebody 110 to said required length. If torn, the tear may occur along a perforation. Next, a user can remove thepeelable cover layer 140 and place the adhesivebottom surface 130 on or behind thesweatband 14 or in another interior 12 area of thehat 10, allowing thetop surface 120 to contact a user's head. - Certain terms are used throughout the following description and claims to refer to particular features or components. As one skilled in the art will appreciate, different persons may refer to the same feature or component by different names. This document does not intend to distinguish between components or features that differ in name but not structure or function. As used herein “hat sweatband tape device” and “device” are interchangeable and refer to the hat
sweatband tape device 100 of the present invention. - Notwithstanding the forgoing, the hat
sweatband tape device 100 of the present invention and its various components can be of any suitable size and configuration as is known in the art without affecting the overall concept of the invention, provided that they accomplish the above-stated objectives. One of ordinary skill in the art will appreciate that the size, configuration and material of the hatsweatband tape device 100 as shown inFIGS. 1-3 is for illustrative purposes only, and that many other sizes and shapes of the hatsweatband tape device 100 are well within the scope of the present disclosure. Although the dimensions of the hatsweatband tape device 100 are important design parameters for user convenience, the hatsweatband tape device 100 may be of any size, shape and/or configuration that ensures optimal performance during use and/or that suits the user's needs and/or preferences. - Various modifications and additions can be made to the exemplary embodiments discussed without departing from the scope of the present invention. While the embodiments described above refer to particular features, the scope of this invention also includes embodiments having different combinations of features and embodiments that do not include all of the described features. Accordingly, the scope of the present invention is intended to embrace all such alternatives, modifications and variations as fall within the scope of the claims, together with all equivalents thereof
- What has been described above includes examples of the claimed subject matter. It is, of course, not possible to describe every conceivable combination of components or methodologies for purposes of describing the claimed subject matter, but one of ordinary skill in the art may recognize that many further combinations and permutations of the claimed subject matter are possible. Accordingly, the claimed subject matter is intended to embrace all such alterations, modifications and variations that fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims. Furthermore, to the extent that the term “includes” is used in either the detailed description or the claims, such term is intended to be inclusive in a manner similar to the term “comprising” as “comprising” is interpreted when employed as a transitional word in a claim.
