The top has an annular edge. The annular edge of the top rests on the outer annular wall of the base in a positive engagement. The base forms a bottom ash receiving chamber which receives ash from the pieces of coal. Inside the outer annular wall of the base, a grate for the pieces of coal is borne at a variable height above the perforated bottom and at a distance therefrom. The top forms a domed cover for the bottom ash receiving chamber and the grate.
Description
- This application is a U.S. National Phase application under 35 U.S.C. § 371 of International Application No. PCT/EP2020/078520, filed on Oct. 10, 2020 and which claims benefit to German Patent Application No. 10 2020 101 664.6, filed on Jan. 24, 2020. The International Application was published in German on Jul. 29, 2021 as WO 2021/148155 A1 under PCT Article 21(2).
- The present invention relates to a coal receptacle of a hookah, the hookah having a lower closed water jar which has a suction hose connected thereto in its upper section above the water level and into which a vertical shaft opens below the water level, at the upper end of which shaft a hookah head is releasably attached which comprises a bowl and a coal receptacle releasably resting on the bowl and exhibiting a bottom ash receiving chamber and, above the ash receiving chamber, a grate supporting glowing pieces of coal that heat the tobacco.
- It is difficult to heat tobacco in a controlled manner with previously described hookahs. The tobacco may be heated both insufficiently and excessively so that often no optimally flavored smoke is created. To improve this situation, it is known to adjust the distance between the pieces of coal and the tobacco via a height-adjustable grate, however, it has become apparent that this is insufficient for a consistently optimal smoke.
- An aspect of the present invention is to improve a coal receptacle of the kind referred to above so that tobacco is evenly heated at an optimum temperature with a simple design and handling.
- In an embodiment, the present invention provides a coal receptacle of a hookah. The hookah comprises a lower closed water jar which is configured to hold water having a water level, a vertical shaft comprising an upper end and a lower end, and a hookah head which is configured to be releasably attached to the upper end of the vertical shaft. The lower closed water jar comprises a suction hose which is connected to an upper section of the lower closed water jar above the water level. The lower end of the vertical shaft is arranged to open below the water level in the lower closed water jar. The hookah head comprises a bowl, the coal receptacle which is arranged to releasably rest on the bowl, a bottom ash receiving chamber, and a grate which is arranged above the ash receiving chamber. The grate is configured to support pieces of coal which heat tobacco. The coal receptacle comprises a base and a top. The base comprises a perforated bottom and an outer annular wall which is arranged to surround the perforated bottom. The top comprises an annular edge. The annular edge of the top is configured to rest on the outer annular wall of the base in a positive engagement. The base forms the bottom ash receiving chamber which is configured to receive ash from the pieces of coal. Inside the outer annular wall of the base, the grate for the pieces of coal is borne at a variable height above the perforated bottom and at a distance therefrom. The top forms a domed cover for the bottom ash receiving chamber and the grate.
- The present invention is described in greater detail below on the basis of an embodiment and of the drawing in which:
- The Figure shows an embodiment of the present invention in a vertical axial section.
- The present invention provides that:
-
- The coal receptacle comprises a base and a top resting on the base in positive engagement;
- The base forms the chamber for receiving the coal ash and exhibits a perforated bottom and an outer annular wall surrounding the bottom;
- Inside the annular wall, the grate for the pieces of coal is borne at a variable height above the bottom and at a distance from the bottom;
- The top forms a domed cover of the ash receiving chamber and the grate; and
- The annular edge of the top rests on the annular wall of the base in positive engagement.
- Such a coal receptacle enclosing the tobacco and the grate with the pieces of coal forms an interior space that is essentially closed all around, with a base and a closing hood above so that a simple and exactly controlled heat management becomes possible inside this space to provide an optimum tobacco smoke.
- A simple and easy to handle height adjustment of the grate is achieved if the base has obliquely rising ramps at the inner and/or upper edge of its annular wall, upon which lateral sections of the grate rest for the adjustment of the height of the grate.
- An uncontrolled glowing of the pieces of coal by laterally entering air is avoided if the annular wall of the base fully encircles the base and is free of holes admitting air.
- An optimum control of the flow of the smoke through the hookah is achieved if the vertical shaft, the suction hose adapter and/or the mouthpiece of the hose has/have a valve for controlling the smoke flow.
- The top and the base of the coal receptacle can, for example, be made of metal, of clay, or of a stone compound.
- One embodiment of the present invention is shown in a vertical axial section in the drawing and is described in greater detail below.
- The hookah (or shisha) comprises a lower closed
water jar 1 with anupper hose adapter 2 that extends into the space above thewater level 3 of thewater jar 1. A suction hose 4 having a mouthpiece 5 at its outer end is attached at the outer end of theupper hose adapter 2. A vertical shaft 6 is inserted from above into thewater jar 1, at the upper end of which thehead 7 of the hookah is releasably attached. - The
head 7 of the hookah has in its bottom part abowl 8, which is in particular made from ceramics or clay, which is placed on top of the vertical shaft 6 and which has an inner smoke channel 9 which ends at the bottom of apan-shaped space 23 which accommodates the tobacco. The smoke is received by ametal coal receptacle 10 which sits releasably on thebowl 8. - The
coal receptacle 10 comprises apan-shaped base 11 and a hood-shaped top 12. Thebase 11 forms anash receiving chamber 13 with ahorizontal bottom 14 havingopenings 24 and an outer verticalannular wall 15 around the bottom. The outer verticalannular wall 15 fully encircles thebottom 14 and can, for example, not have any holes for admitting air. Thecoal receptacle 10 is made of metal, of clay, or of a stone compound. - Inside the outer vertical
annular wall 15, a screen-shapedhorizontal grate 16 is borne at a variable height on which the glowing pieces ofcoal 17 are placed.Lateral ramps 18 are provided on the inside or on the upper side of the outer verticalannular wall 15, each of whichlateral ramps 18 have an upperoblique edge 19 upon which the edge of thehorizontal grate 16 rests. A height of thehorizontal grate 16 is adjusted via a rotational adjustment thereof. - The
top 12 has a downward projecting, annular,vertical side wall 20, the bottom edge of which rests on the upper edge of the outer verticalannular wall 15 in positive engagement. Holes for admittingair 22 are provided between the upper and the lower edge. Theupper side 21 of thetop 12 is domed and has holes for admittingair 22. - To control the flow of smoke through the hookah, at least one valve (A, B, C and/or D) is provided that is located at the shaft 6, at the
hose adapter 2, and/or at the mouthpiece 5. - The present invention is not limited to embodiments described herein; reference should be had to the appended claims.
