Description
- This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 63/217,518 filed on Jul. 1, 2021, the entire content of which is incorporated herein by reference.
- The present invention relates generally to wigs, and more particularly, to a wig apparatus including a front zone and a rear zone.
- Hair extensions and wigs are used by people to enhance their appearance. Wigs generally include multiple strands of hair attached to a cap to form a unit that can be secured to a user's scalp. Hair weaves and hair extensions are also used by people to either conceal or supplement their natural hair. In some cases, people use wigs when they are experiencing baldness or thinning of their natural hair. For those experiencing baldness or thinning of natural hair, use of wigs provides an alternative to use of potentially dangerous hair growth drugs or chemicals, or uncomfortable hair plugs. In other cases, people use wigs for temporary purposes when they are undergoing medical treatments that result in loss of their hair, such as chemotherapy.
- Hair extensions and wigs are also used to provide a user with an alternative hair color in order to improve their appearance. Furthermore, hair extensions and wigs can be used by people to present an alternative texture to their own hair, such as changing their hair from straight to curly. Just as many people enjoy accessorizing their wardrobe, people who wear hair extensions and wigs enjoy changing and enhancing their appearance.
- Embodiments of the invention described herein provide a wig apparatus. The wig apparatus includes: a mesh cap comprising a front zone, a rear zone, a seam and an elastic band, the mesh cap is configured to cover the scalp of a user; an elastic band extending around an entire circumference of the mesh cap, the elastic band coupled to the perimeter of front zone and the rear zone of the mesh cap; a strap coupled to the interior surface of the elastic band on opposite sides of the mesh cap; and a silicone strip coupled to the interior surface of the elastic band.
- According to further embodiments: the front zone is a mesh material constructed of at least one of cotton, nylon, elastic, or spandex; the front zone is configured to have crochet-style artificial hair coupled to an outer surface thereof; the front zone is coupled to the rear zone along a seam; the elastic band is constructed of an elastic material; the elastic band is about 0.5 cm to about 10 cm thick; the strap is constructed of an elastic material; at least a portion of the strap does not overlap the elastic band; the strap is coupled to the elastic band at an angle such that the strap is biased to extend below the elastic band near the user's nape region when the wig apparatus is worn by the user; the silicone strip is disposed between the elastic band and the strap; the silicone strip extends around a portion of the elastic band; the silicone strip extends around the elastic band up to the seam and does not extend beyond the seam; the silicone strip is about the same thickness as the elastic band; the silicone strip is smaller in thickness than the elastic band; a plurality of combs are coupled to an inner surface of the mesh cap or an inner surface of the elastic band; the combs are disposed on the inner surface of the mesh cap in areas corresponding to the user's temples and to the back of the user's neck; the combs disposed near the user's nape region are coupled to the elastic band; and the combs disposed near the user's temples are coupled to the mesh of the front zone and to the elastic band.

In certain embodiments, thesilicone strip 135 is smaller in thickness than theelastic band 120. - The
combs 130 are coupled to an inner surface of the mesh cap and/or an inner surface of theelastic band 120. Thecombs 130 are disposed on the inner surface of the mesh cap in areas approximately corresponding to the user's temples and to the back of the user's neck, i.e., the user's nape region. Thecomb 130 disposed near the user's nape region is coupled to theelastic band 120. Thecombs 130 disposed near the user's temples are coupled to the mesh of thefront zone 105 and to theelastic band 120. Thecombs 130 include tines that are inserted into the user's natural hair. Thecombs 130 are configured to secure thewig apparatus 100 to the user's head. - Embodiments of the invention described herein provide a wig apparatus that includes a front zone and a rear zone, each configured to have different styles of artificial hair coupled to a surface thereof. The front zone is configured to have individual strands of artificial hair coupled to a surface thereof in order to provide a full and voluminous appearance. The rear zone of the artificial hair is configured to have wefts of hair coupled to a surface thereof in order to provide a full and flat appearance. The wig apparatus also includes components configured to prevent the wig apparatus from slipping off the user's head, such as combs and a silicone strip coupled to the interior of the wig apparatus.
- While embodiments of the invention have been shown and described with reference to certain embodiments thereof, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that various changes in form and details may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention and equivalents thereof.
