Abstract

The present invention is a hand masker having a housing structure, a pole, and a cutting mechanism. The hand masker of the present invention is designed with a paper roller and tape wheels to hold paper and tape, a plurality of aligning wheels to adhere the tape to both sides of the paper, a plurality of pressing wheels to adhere the tape and paper to a surface, a cutting blade to cut the paper and tape away from the paper roller and tape wheels, a cut trigger and gear cable to activate cutting from a distance, and an extension pole to operate the present invention from a distance. In use, the present invention allows for precise and efficient coverage of a surface with tape and paper from a distance.

Description

  • The current application claims a priority to the U.S. Provisional Patent application Ser. No. 63/178,360 filed on Apr. 22, 2021.
  • FIELD OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates generally to a tape masking device. More specifically, the present invention is a device that can mask both sides of paper to lower preparation time and increase location accessibility.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • Painting is a great way to add color and uniqueness to the interior and exterior of a house. In order to properly and professionally paint a house, basic preparation is needed to ensure the paint is properly managed and does not touch areas where it is not supposed to. Covering a wall with paper and masking tape is a common practice to ensure that the paint on another section of the house does not leak or accidentally touch the wrong areas. When covering a wall with masking tape and paper many people used to perform this task with just their hands and no tools which created an uneven look which could potentially result in a ruined paint job. More recently painters have used a hand masker tool which allows the user to seamlessly apply paper and masking tape to cover a wall with a professional look. Unfortunately, the hand masker still has a few issues for neatly and efficiently placing paper and masking tape on a wall. The first issue is that hand maskers only tape one side of the paper. This leaves the other side of the paper unsecured, which either takes more time to properly secure or could result in portions of wall not being properly covered. The other issue with hand maskers is that the user holds one in their hand and can only operate at most one foot away from where their hand can reach. This makes many areas such as a high wall or ceiling inaccessible without the help of a ladder or other device to lift the user higher up.
  • An objective of the present invention is to provide users with a double sided hand masker, to help mask both sides of a paper to limit the time needed for painting preparation. The present invention intends to provide users with a device that can mask both sides of paper and easily cut the tape and paper once the desired length is put into place. In order to accomplish that, a preferred embodiment of the present invention comprises a pole, a cutting structure, and a masking housing. Further, the cutting structure allows the present invention to cut the paper and tape easily for more added convenience. Thus, the present invention is dual sided hand masker that can easily reach and cover inaccessible areas with paper on both sides simultaneously and cut both the paper and tape when the desired length is achieved.

  • The present invention is a masking device to help with painting preparation. The present invention seeks to provide users with a dual sided hand masker to simultaneously tape both sides of a long sheet of paper. In order to accomplish this the present invention comprises a pole that allows the user to reach various heights around a building without the need for a raised surface to climb. Further, the cutting structure allows the tape and paper to be cut to a desired length with convenience. Additionally, the masking housing holds all the rollers and wheels to ensure the paper and tape are combined in a smooth way to limit creases and inconsistencies. Thus, the present invention is dual sided hand masker that can easily reach and cover inaccessible areas with paper on both sides simultaneously and cut both the paper and tape when the desired length is achieved.

  • As shown in FIG. 1, the present invention is dual sided hand masker. An objective of the present invention is to provide users with a hand masker that can tape both sides of paper to a wall simultaneously. To accomplish this the present invention comprises a pole 1, a cutting structure 2, and a masking housing 3. Many of these components allow for the user to reach surfaces far away while staying on the ground. The pole 1 is attached to the masking housing 3 via the angled pole neck 13 which allows for pivoting of the of the pole 1 relative to the masking housing 3 in the present invention. Attached on top of the masking housing 3 is the cutting structure 2 that is controlled by the gear cable 21. The cut trigger 12 allows the user to remotely cut paper and tape from a distance without having to be close to the area being covered. Thus, the present invention is dual sided hand masker that can easily reach and cover inaccessible areas with paper on both sides simultaneously and cut both paper and tape when the desired length is achieved.
  • The present invention can reach extended distances by utilizing the pole 1. The pole 1 is preferably designed with a sturdy plastic material and a slender cylindrical shape, though other materials such as wood or metal may be used. In its preferred embodiment the pole 1 comprises a pole extension clip 11, a cut trigger 12 and an angled pole neck 13. The pole extension clip 11 is located at the base of the pole 1. The pole extension clip 11 is preferably made of a similar plastic material as the pole 1 and allows the pole length to be extended. If the individual needs to reach an area that is not easily accessible a second pole 14 can be attached to the base of the first pole 1 via the pole extension clip 11 to ensure accessibility without having to climb up a surface such as a ladder to reach the area, as shown in FIG. 8. Positioned near the base of the pole 1 is the cut trigger 12. In some embodiments, the cut trigger may be placed at the base of the second pole 14 when attached to the first pole 1 by the extension clip 11. The cut trigger 12 has a curved shape that can be pulled with a finger. The cut trigger 12 allows the present invention to cut both paper and tape from an extended distance. At the opposite end of the pole 1 is the angled pole neck 13. The angled pole neck 13 is made with the same material as the pole 1 and is designed with the same cylindrical cross section but with a L shaped bend. The angled pole neck 13 allows the present invention to rotate and pivot while being used to change the application direction if needed. It should be further noted that the pole 1 can be created in many various shapes and sizes and the angled pole neck 13 can be bent in a variety of different directions and angles while still staying within the scope of the present invention.
  • The cutting structure 2 connects with the pole 1 via the gear cable 21. The cutting structure 2 is designed with J shaped pieces positioned on top of the masking housing 3. In its preferred embodiment, the cutting structure 2 further comprises a gear cable 21, a cutting blade 22, and a safety track 23. The gear cable 21 is designed as a thin wire that attaches at the cutting structure 2 and attaches to the cut trigger 12 making a Y shape as seen in FIG. 1. The gear cable 21 allows the cut trigger 12 to be pulled and activate the cutting structure 2. Once the cutting structure 2 is activated by the gear cable 21, the cutting blade 22 is pushed in a downwards motion. The cutting blade 22 is made of a metal material with a rectangular shape designed with a jagged front edge that allows for easy cutting. The cutting blade 22 is the portion of the cutting structure 2 that physically cuts the paper and tape. In order to ensure the device does not accidentally cut a person or surface if used improperly the cutting blade 22 is surrounded by the safety track 23. The safety track 23 is preferably made out of a plastic material that has the approximately the same length as the cutting blade 22. The safety track 23 makes a U shape around the cutting blade 22 with the open end allowing the jagged edge of the cutting blade 22 to still be exposed to cut paper and tape when needed.
  • The masking housing 3 connects with the pole 1 via the angled pole neck 13. The masking housing 3 has a unique 3-sided shape as seen in FIG. 2, having a top wall and two side walls. The top wall of the masking housing is designed with a rectangular shape. In its preferred embodiment the masking housing comprises a plurality of tape wheels 31, a paper roller 32, a plurality of aligner wheels 33, and a plurality of pressing wheels 34. The plurality of tape wheels 31 is positioned in the rear top side of the masking housing. The plurality of tape wheels 31 has a cylindrical shape that can rotate around a central axis allowing for a roll of masking tape to be placed over the plurality of tape wheels and be spun. Located below the plurality of tape wheels 31 is the paper roller 32. The paper roller 32 is designed with a cylindrical shape that extended the length of the masking housing 3 and is attached centrally on each side. The paper roller 32 is attached to the masking housing 3 in a manner that allows the paper roller 32 to rotate around its central axis so that any paper roll attached can be spun off. As tape and paper are being spun, they are both connected together at the plurality of aligner wheels 33. The plurality of aligner wheels 33 are positioned in close proximity to each other and below the plurality of tape wheels 31 and above the paper roller 32. The plurality of aligner wheels 33 is designed with a small cylindrical shape where each wheel can rotate around its central axis. As paper and tape pass through the plurality of aligner wheels 33, the two materials are pressed together to ensure the paper is being taped down when being applied to a surface. Located below and in front of the plurality of aligner wheels 33 is the plurality of pressing wheels 34. The plurality of pressing wheels 34 is positioned at the base of the masking housing 3 and is designed with a large cylindrical shape. The plurality of pressing wheels 34, similar to the other components of the masking housing 3, can be rotated around the central axis to allow taped paper to rotate around the plurality of pressing wheels 34. This design allows the taped paper to be pressed to a surface covering and being secured until the paper and tape are cut by the cutting blade 22. In the preferred embodiment, the plurality of tape wheels 31, plurality of aligner wheels 33, and plurality of pressing wheels 34, are placed in a mirrored orientation where any wheel placed on one side wall of the masking housing 3 has a corresponding wheel in the same location on the opposite side wall of the masking housing 3. With all the components working in tandem with each other it can be seen that the present invention is dual sided hand masker that can easily reach and cover inaccessible areas with paper on both sides simultaneously and cut both the paper and tape when the desired length is achieved.
  • Although the invention has been explained in relation to its preferred embodiment, it is to be understood that many other possible modifications and variations can be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.

Claims (20)

What is claimed is:
1. A hand masker comprising:
a masking housing;
a first pole;
a paper roller;
a first tape wheel;
a second tape wheel;
a first plurality of aligner wheels;
a second plurality of aligner wheels;
the masking housing comprising a top wall, a first side wall and a second side wall;
the first pole comprising a base end and a connecting end;
the connecting end of the first pole being attached to exterior of the housing;
the paper roller having a first end and a second end;
the first end of the paper roller rotatably connecting to the first side wall of the masking housing and the second end of the paper roller rotatably connecting to the second side wall of the masking housing;
the first tape wheel rotatably connecting to the first side wall of the masking housing and the second tape wheel rotatably connecting to the second side wall of the masking housing; and
the first plurality of aligner wheels rotatably connecting to the first side wall of the masking housing and the second plurality of aligner wheels rotatably connecting to the second side wall of the masking housing.
2. The hand masker of claim 1 comprising:
a first pressing wheel;
a second pressing wheel;
the first pressing wheel rotatably connecting to the first side wall of the masking housing and the second pressing wheel rotatably connecting to the second side wall of the masking housing.
3. The hand masker of claim 2 comprising:
a second pole;
a pole extension clip;
the second pole comprising a connecting end and a base end; and
the connecting end of the second pole connecting to the base end of the first pole by the pole extension clip.
4. The hand masker of claim 3 comprising:
an angled pole neck;
the first pole adjustably attached to the housing by the angled pole neck; and
the angled pole neck configured to allow the pole to be angularly adjusted relative to the masking housing.
5. The hand masker of claim 4 comprising:
a cutting structure;
a cut trigger;
a gear cable;
a cutting blade;
the cutting blade comprising a cutting edge;
the cutting structure attached to the top wall of the masking housing;
the cut trigger attached to the pole;
the cut trigger operatively connected to the cutting structure by the gear cable;
the cutting blade attached to the cutting structure; and
the cutting blade is activated by movement of the cutting structure from tension on the gear cable from activation of the cut trigger.
6. The hand masker of claim 5 comprising:
a safety track having at least one open end; and
the cutting blade embedded into the safety track with the cutting edge oriented toward the at least one open end of the safety track.
7. A hand masker comprising:
a masking housing;
a first pole;
a paper roller;
a first tape wheel;
a first plurality of aligner wheels;
the paper roller having a first end and a second end;
the masking housing comprising a top wall and a first side wall;
the first end of the paper roller rotatably connecting to the first side wall of the masking housing;
the first tape wheel rotatably connecting to the first side wall of the masking housing;
the first plurality of aligner wheels rotatably connecting to the first side wall of the masking housing;
the pole comprising a base end and a connecting end;
the base end of the pole further comprising a pole extension clip;
the connecting end of the pole further comprising an angled pole neck;
the pole extension clip configured to receive and secure a second pole to the base end of the first pole;
the first pole being adjustably attached to the housing by the angled pole neck; and
the angled pole neck configured to allow the pole to be angularly adjusted relative to the masking housing.
8. The hand masker of claim 7 comprising:
a first pressing wheel;
the first pressing wheel rotatably connecting to the first side wall of the masking housing.
9. The hand masker of claim 8 comprising:
a second tape wheel;
a second plurality of aligner wheels;
a second pressing wheel;
the housing further comprising a second side wall oppositely positioned on the masking housing from the first side wall;
the second end of the paper roller rotatably attached to the second side wall of the masking housing;
the second tape wheel rotatably connecting to the second side wall of the housing opposite the first tape wheel;
the second plurality of aligner wheels rotatably connecting to the second side wall of the masking housing opposite the first plurality of aligner wheels;
the second pressing wheel rotatably connecting to the second side wall of the masking housing opposite the first pressing wheel.
10. The hand masker of claim 9 comprising:
a cutting structure;
a cut trigger;
a gear cable;
a cutting blade;
the cutting blade comprising a cutting edge;
the cutting structure attached to the top wall of the masking housing;
the cut trigger attached to the first pole;
the cut trigger operatively connected to the cutting structure by the gear cable;
the cutting blade attached to the cutting structure; and
the cutting blade is activated by movement of the cutting structure from tension on the gear cable from activation of the cut trigger.
11. The hand masker of claim 10 comprising:
a safety track having at least one open end;
the cutting blade embedded into the safety track with the cutting edge oriented toward the at least one open end of the safety track.
12. A hand masker comprising:
a masking housing;
a first pole;
a paper roller;
a first tape wheel;
a first plurality of aligner wheels;
a cutting structure;
a cut trigger;
a gear cable;
a cutting blade;
the paper roller having a first end and a second end;
the masking housing comprising a top wall and a first side wall;
the first end of the paper roller rotatably connecting to the first side wall of the masking housing;
the first tape wheel rotatably connecting to the first side wall of the masking housing;
the first aligner wheel rotatably connecting to the first side wall of the masking housing;
the cutting blade comprising a cutting edge;
the cutting structure attached to the top wall of the masking housing;
the cut trigger attached to the pole;
the cut trigger operatively connected to the cutting structure by the gear cable;
the cutting blade attached to the cutting structure; and
the cutting blade is activated by movement of the cutting structure from tension on the gear cable from activation of the cut trigger.
13. The hand masker of claim 12 comprising:
a safety track having at least one open end;
the cutting blade embedded into the safety track with the cutting edge oriented toward the at least one open end of the safety track.
14. The hand masker of claim 13 comprising:
a first pressing wheel;
the first pressing wheel rotatably connecting to the first side wall of the masking housing.
15. The hand masker of claim 14 comprising:
a second tape wheel;
a second plurality of aligner wheels;
a second pressing wheel;
the housing further comprising a second side wall oppositely positioned on the housing from the first side wall;
the second end of the paper roller rotatably attached the second side wall of the masking housing;
the second tape wheel rotatably connecting to the second side wall of the masking housing opposite the first tape wheel;
the second plurality of aligner wheels rotatably connecting to the second side wall of the masking housing opposite the first plurality of aligner wheels;
the second pressing wheel rotatably connecting to the second side wall of the masking housing opposite the first pressing wheel.
16. The hand masker of claim 15 comprising:
an extension pole;
a pole extension clip;
the extension pole comprising a connecting end and a base end;
wherein the connecting end of the extension pole connects to the base end of the pole by way of the pole extension clip.
17. The hand masker of claim 16 comprising:
an angled pole neck;
the pole adjustably attached to the housing by the angled pole neck; and
the angled pole neck configured to allow the pole to be angularly adjusted relative to the masking housing.
18. The hand masker of claim 1 comprising:
a second pole;
a pole extension clip;
the second pole comprising a connecting end and a base end; and
the connecting end of the second pole connecting to the base end of the first pole by the pole extension clip.
19. The hand masker of claim 1 comprising:
a cutting structure;
a cut trigger;
a gear cable;
a cutting blade;
the cutting blade comprising a cutting edge;
the cutting structure attached to the housing;
the cut trigger attached to the first pole;
the cut trigger operatively connected to the cutting structure by the gear cable;
the cutting blade attached to the cutting structure; and
the cutting blade is activated by movement of the cutting structure from tension on the gear cable from activation of the cut trigger.
20. The hand masker of claim 12 comprising:
a first pressing wheel; and
the first pressing wheel rotatably connecting to the first side wall of the masking housing.
