  • FIG. 8 is an in-use view of an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 8 thereof, a new skateboard brake device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.
  • As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 8, the removable skateboard brake apparatus 10 generally comprises a clip base 12 having a base underside 14 and a base top side 16. The base top side 16 may have a plurality of base ears 18. A clip top 20 has a top underside 22 and a top top side 24. The top underside 22 may have a plurality of top ears 26 positioned to align adjacent the plurality of base ears 18. The top underside 22 is pivotably coupled to the base top side 14.
  • A spring 28 is coupled to the clip base 12 and the clip top 20. The spring 28 may include a pair of spring axles 30 coupled to the plurality of base ears 18 and the plurality of top ears 26 and a pair of torsion springs 32 coupled around the pair of spring axles 30. The spring 28 biases the clip top 20 towards the clip base 12. The clip base 12 and the clip top 20 are configured to be attached to a deck 34 of a skateboard 36. The clip top 20 may be positioned such that it rests parallel to the clip base 12 when securing the deck 34 of the skateboard. A pair of clip grips 38 may be coupled to the clip base 12 and the clip top 20. The pair of clip grips 38 is coupled to the base top side 16 and the top underside 22 to improve grip on the deck 34 of the skateboard and prevent accidental disengagement.
  • A brake housing 40 is coupled to the clip base 12. The brake housing 40 has a housing top side 42 coupled to the base underside 14, a housing bottom side 44, a housing inner side 46, a housing outer side 48, and a pair of housing lateral sides 50. The housing inner side 46 may be aligned with a base distal edge 52 of the clip base. The housing bottom side 44 has a semicircular wheel well portion 54. The width of the pair of housing lateral sides 50 may be wider than a wheel 56 of the skateboard.
  • A brake pad 58 is coupled to the brake housing 40. The brake pad 58 is coupled to the housing bottom side 44 and is configured to contact a wheel perimeter 60 of the wheel 56 of the skateboard. The brake pad 58 is coupled within the wheel well portion 54 and conforms to the semicircular shape. The brake pad 58 may be of uniform thickness excepting a pair of rounded brake edges 62 adjacent a pair of outer portions 64 of the housing bottom side on each side of the wheel well portion 54. The brake pad 58 may be a rubberized material designed to create even friction on the wheel 56 of the skateboard while being resilient to wear.
  • In use, the clip base 12 and the clip top 20 are secured onto the deck 34 of the skateboard to position the brake pad 58 around the wheel 56. As the skateboard 36 goes downhill the rider may apply pressure to the deck 34 to contact the brake pad 58 to the wheel 56 and slow the skateboard 36. Once on level ground the rider may unclip the apparatus 10 from the deck 34 for normal and trick riding.
  • With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
