- The disclosure relates to skateboard brake devices and more particularly pertains to a new skateboard brake device for easily adding and removing brakes to a skateboard. The present invention includes a clip to easily attach to a skateboard. There is also a curved brake pad to contact the wheel.
- The prior art relates to skateboard brake devices. Known devices include attached brakes to contact an inner surface of the skateboard wheels and lack cup shaped brake pads. These devices are typically screwed or adhered to the skateboard deck rather than being clipped on for easy removal.
- An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a clip base having a base underside and a base top side. A clip top has a top underside and a top top side. The top underside is pivotably coupled to the base top side. A spring is coupled to the clip base and the clip top. The spring biases the clip top towards the clip base. The clip base and the clip top are configured to be attached to a deck of a skateboard. A brake housing is coupled to the clip base. The brake housing has a housing top side coupled to the base underside, a housing bottom side, a housing inner side, a housing outer side, and a pair of housing lateral sides. A brake pad is coupled to the brake housing. The brake pad is coupled to the housing bottom side and is configured to contact a wheel perimeter of a wheel of the skateboard.
- There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.
- The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.
- The disclosure will be better understood and objects other than those set forth above will become apparent when consideration is given to the following detailed description thereof. Such description makes reference to the annexed drawings wherein:
-
FIG. 1 is an isometric view of a removable skateboard brake apparatus according to an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 2 is an isometric view of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 3 is a side elevation view of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 4 is a rear elevation view of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 5 is an in-use view of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 6 is an in-use view of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 7 is an in-use view of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 8 is an in-use view of an embodiment of the disclosure. - With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to
FIGS. 1 through 8 thereof, a new skateboard brake device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by thereference numeral 10 will be described. - As best illustrated in
FIGS. 1 through 8 , the removableskateboard brake apparatus 10 generally comprises aclip base 12 having abase underside 14 and abase top side 16. The basetop side 16 may have a plurality ofbase ears 18. Aclip top 20 has atop underside 22 and a toptop side 24. Thetop underside 22 may have a plurality oftop ears 26 positioned to align adjacent the plurality ofbase ears 18. Thetop underside 22 is pivotably coupled to the basetop side 14. - A
spring 28 is coupled to theclip base 12 and theclip top 20. Thespring 28 may include a pair ofspring axles 30 coupled to the plurality ofbase ears 18 and the plurality oftop ears 26 and a pair oftorsion springs 32 coupled around the pair ofspring axles 30. Thespring 28 biases theclip top 20 towards theclip base 12. Theclip base 12 and theclip top 20 are configured to be attached to adeck 34 of askateboard 36. Theclip top 20 may be positioned such that it rests parallel to theclip base 12 when securing thedeck 34 of the skateboard. A pair ofclip grips 38 may be coupled to theclip base 12 and theclip top 20. The pair ofclip grips 38 is coupled to thebase top side 16 and thetop underside 22 to improve grip on thedeck 34 of the skateboard and prevent accidental disengagement. - A
brake housing 40 is coupled to theclip base 12. Thebrake housing 40 has ahousing top side 42 coupled to thebase underside 14, ahousing bottom side 44, a housinginner side 46, a housingouter side 48, and a pair of housinglateral sides 50. The housinginner side 46 may be aligned with a basedistal edge 52 of the clip base. Thehousing bottom side 44 has a semicircularwheel well portion 54. The width of the pair of housinglateral sides 50 may be wider than awheel 56 of the skateboard. - A
brake pad 58 is coupled to thebrake housing 40. Thebrake pad 58 is coupled to thehousing bottom side 44 and is configured to contact awheel perimeter 60 of thewheel 56 of the skateboard. Thebrake pad 58 is coupled within thewheel well portion 54 and conforms to the semicircular shape. Thebrake pad 58 may be of uniform thickness excepting a pair of rounded brake edges 62 adjacent a pair ofouter portions 64 of the housing bottom side on each side of thewheel well portion 54. Thebrake pad 58 may be a rubberized material designed to create even friction on thewheel 56 of the skateboard while being resilient to wear. - In use, the
clip base 12 and theclip top 20 are secured onto thedeck 34 of the skateboard to position thebrake pad 58 around thewheel 56. As theskateboard 36 goes downhill the rider may apply pressure to thedeck 34 to contact thebrake pad 58 to thewheel 56 and slow theskateboard 36. Once on level ground the rider may unclip theapparatus 10 from thedeck 34 for normal and trick riding. - With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.
- Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
