Description

    CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION
  • This application claims the benefit of pending U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62/970,958 filed on Feb. 6, 2020 and U.S. Design patent application Ser. No. 29/723,820 filed on Feb. 11, 2020. The above identified patent applications are herein incorporated by reference in its entirety to provide continuity of disclosure.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to an accessory bag for conveniently storing and transporting personal items. More specifically, the present invention provides wrist mountable bag having a first handle and a second handle adapted to cooperatively form a closure of the bag and a wrist securement formed by the first handle when in a closed configuration.
  • Transporting and securing cell phones, credit cards, keys, and other similar accessories is challenging when engaging in an active lifestyle. For example, transporting a purse or other large storage bag is impractical when swimming or going to a beach. Existing bags having a strap capable of fitting around a wrist are not designed to secure tightly onto the wrist and easily slip off therefrom. Nor are these straps monolithic or integral to the bag. Other existing holders that have a strap capable of receiving a wrist are substantially flat and only designed to store a single item in a main compartment, such as a mobile phone or credit cards.
  • Although bags with handles exist in the known art, none of these bags disclose a bag capable of holding multiple items that can be quickly secured to a person's hand or wrist. The present invention includes a bag with a pair of upper U-shaped handles, one of which is longer than the other. The longer handle can be threaded through the shorter handle to form both a closure mechanism and a wristband.
  • In light of the devices disclosed in the known art, it is submitted that the present invention substantially diverges in design elements from the known art and consequently it is clear that there is a need in the art for an improvement to existing accessory bags. In this regard the instant invention substantially fulfills these needs.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • In view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the known types of accessory bags now present in the known art, the present invention provides a new accessory bag wherein the same can be utilized for securing directly to a wrist of a user and supporting multiple personal items within a main interior compartment.
  • It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide an accessory bag that can be conveniently secured to a user's wrist. The accessory bag comprises a body having a closed lower end and an open upper end, wherein the open upper end provides access to a main interior compartment for retaining personal items. A first handle and a second handle each extend from the open upper end of the body, wherein the handles are movable between an open and closed configuration. In the closed configuration, the first handle is threaded through the second handle to form a closure that prevents access to the main compartment and a wrist securement formed by the first handle that secures around the wrist.
  • It is another objective of the present invention to provide an accessory bag wherein the first handle is longer than the second handle, such that the first handle is sized to fit around a user's wrist in close tolerance therewith and the second handle designed to prevent access to the interior compartment when in the closed configuration.
  • It is another objective of the present invention to provide an accessory bag having a secondary interior compartment formed between an exterior layer and an interior layer of the body.
  • It is yet another objective of the present invention to provide an accessory bag that is reversible such that the interior layer becomes the exterior layer, and the exterior layer becomes the interior layer when in the reversed configuration.
  • It is yet another object of the present invention to provide an accessory bag with an easily operable closure mechanism that allows a user to quickly and conveniently secure keys, cell phones, money, or credit cards.
  • It is yet another object of the present invention to provide an accessory bag that is configured to store multiple personal items in a main interior compartment.
  • It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a new and improved accessory bag that has all of the advantages of the known art and none of the disadvantages.
  • Other objects, features, and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTIONS OF THE DRAWINGS
  • Although the characteristic features of this invention will be particularly pointed out in the claims, the invention itself and manner in which it may be made and used may be better understood after a review of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like numeral annotations are provided throughout.

The figures are intended for representative purposes only and should not be considered to be limiting in any respect.
  • Referring now to FIGS. 1 and 2, there is shown a perspective view of an embodiment of the accessory bag in an open configuration and a perspective view of an embodiment of the accessory bag in a closed configuration, respectively. The accessory bag 1000 comprises a body 1100 having closed lower 1110 end, an open upper end 1120, and a pair of handles 1300, 1310. The body 1100 is formed from an exterior layer 1130 and an interior layer 1140 that are joined at a perimeter 1150 along the upper end 1120. In the illustrated embodiment, the interior and exterior layers 1130, 1140 are only joined at the perimeter of the upper end 1120, and nowhere else along the body 1100. In this way, a gap 1400 or separation is formed therebetween. In an open configuration, or when the accessory bag 1000 is substantially flat, the body 1100 comprises a substantially rectangular shape with rounded corners. In the illustrated embodiment, the body 1100 is made of any suitable material, such as velvet, neoprene, cloth, and the like. In some embodiments, the material is stretchable or elastic and water-resistant.
  • In the illustrated embodiment, the open upper end 1120 provides access to a main interior compartment 1200. The main interior compartment 1200 is configured to receive personal items, such as mobile phones, keys, credit cards, and the like. The volume of main interior compartment 1200 encompasses the entire interior layer 1140 meaning that when a user reaches into the main interior compartment 1200 through the upper end, all of the outer surface of the interior layer 1140 can be touched or accessed. The multiple layers of the body 1100 is adapted to provide durability thereto and additional protection to the items stored therein. In some embodiments, the body 1100 comprises a width between eight and nine inches, wherein the width is measured between the lateral sides of the body, and a smallest length of the body 1100 is between six and seven inches, wherein the smallest length is measured from the closed lower end to a nadir of the open upper end. In the illustrated embodiment, the nadir of the upper end is disposed centrally between the pair of handles. In other embodiments, it is contemplated that the body comprises any suitable width and length to receive multiple accessories therein.
  • In some embodiments, a secondary interior compartment 1410 is formed directly between the exterior layer 1130 and the interior layer 1140, wherein the open upper end 1120 also provides access to the secondary interior compartment 1410. To form the secondary interior compartment 1410, the exterior layer 1130 and the interior layer 1140 are only secured together along the upper perimeter 1150, wherein the upper perimeter 1150 includes the pair of handles 1300, 1310 and a first side 1510 extending between the pair of handles. The exterior layer 1130 and the interior layer 1140 are unsecured to each other at the upper perimeter 1150 along a second side 1500 extending between the pair of handles, wherein the second side 1500 opposes the first side 1510. In some embodiments, the interior layer 1140 and the exterior layer 1130 comprise a same shape and size to one another when disposed in a flat configuration.
  • The secondary interior compartment 1410 is configured to receive other personal items that a user would like to keep separated from the items in the main interior compartment 1200, such as a pair of glasses or a mobile phone. In the illustrated embodiment, the secondary interior compartment 1410 comprises the entire gap 1400 formed between the exterior and interior layer 1300, 1310. In this way, the secondary interior compartment 1410 comprises the same outline as the main interior compartment 1200 and underlies directly therebeneath. In the illustrated embodiment, the interior layer 1310 freely moves within the body 1100, such that as an interior volume of the secondary interior compartment increases via the movement of the interior layer toward the upper end thereof, an interior volume of the main interior compartment simultaneously decreases.
  • Referring now to FIGS. 3 and 4, there is shown a perspective view and a top plan view of an embodiment of the accessory bag in a closed configuration, respectively. The pair of handles 1300, 1310 extend from opposing sides of the body 1100 from the open upper end 1120 thereof and are movable between an open configuration and a closed configuration. In the open configuration, the first handle 1300 is not in direct contact with the second handle 1310, thereby allowing access to the main interior compartment through the open upper end. A u-shape is formed along the perimeter of each of the first and second sides, between the pair of handles 1300, 1310.
  • In the illustrated embodiment, the pair of handles comprise a same width. However, the first handle 1300 of the pair is longer than the second handle 1310. The difference in lengths of the handles allows the shorter handle to securely close the open upper end and the longer handle the ability to secure around a user's wrist while in the closed configuration. In the illustrated embodiment, the exterior layer of the body is monolithic and forms the exterior of the handles, as well as the exterior of the main and secondary interior compartments.
  • In the closed configuration, the first handle 1300 is threaded through the second handle 1310 to form a closure configured to prevent access to the main compartment through the open upper end. When closed, there is no space between a lateral perimeter of the pair of handles thereby preventing access to the main interior compartment or the secondary interior compartment, as seen in FIG. 4. In the illustrated embodiment, the difference in length of the first handle and second handle is between 0.5 inches and 1.5 inches. However, in other embodiments, other differences in lengths between the handles are contemplated. The length is defined as extending between the upper and lower ends of the body.
  • A wrist securement 1600 is also formed in the closed configuration, wherein the wrist securement 1600 is configured to secure the first handle 1300 directly around a wrist of a user and in a close tolerance therewith. In the illustrated embodiment, the wrist securement, which is defined as an upper end of the first handle 1300, is elastic to form a tight fit to the wrist of a user, similar to an elastic hair tie. In the illustrated embodiment, there is no additional fastening mechanism required to close the open upper end of the accessory bag. However, in alternate embodiments, a fastener is disposed at the upper end of the body to provide additional fastening means if needed. The fastener is any suitable fastener, such as a snap, zipper, drawstring, and the like.
  • Referring now to FIGS. 5 and 6, there are shown opposing side views of an embodiment of the accessory bag in an open configuration. The first handle 1300 comprises a larger first channel 1301 than a second channel 1311 of the second handle 1310 to provide adequate closure by the second handle while simultaneously providing a large enough opening or channel for receiving a wrist by the first handle in in the closed configuration. Additionally, the width of the second channel 1311 is wide enough to receive the first handle therethrough. In the illustrated embodiment, the handles are composed of flexible, stretchable material to allow the channels to stretch and deform as needed to form the closed configuration and fit around the user's wrist.
  • In the illustrated embodiment, the first channel 1301 and second channel 1311 of the handles are significantly smaller than conventional handles of a purse or bag. In some embodiments, an exterior face or opening of each channel is no larger than three inches in diameter. This is to ensure the second handle forms a secure closure when positioned over the first handle and the first handle fits tightly around the wrist of the wearer.
  • Referring now to FIG. 7, there is shown a perspective view of an embodiment of the accessory bag secured to a wrist of a user. In operation, a user threads the first handle through the channel of the second handle, wherein the second handle is forced downwards until the open upper end is closed. The user places their hand or wrist through the channel of the first handle. The accessory bag is securely attached to the user such that the user is able to freely use both hands. In some embodiments, the body is reversable such that the interior layer becomes the exterior layer, and the exterior layer becomes the interior layer. In the reversed configuration, the position of the main interior compartment and the secondary interior compartment are unchanged.
  • In some embodiments, an aperture (FIG. 1, 1620) is disposed through the body and configured to receive a fastener for securing a cord or key ring thereto. In this way, a change purse, keys, and the like can be secured to the body of the accessory bag through the aperture. In other embodiments, a strap forming a loop extends from an interior of the body and is configured to receive the fastener for securing the cord or key ring thereto. The strap is flexible and comprises a same diameter as the aperture shown in FIG. 1.
  • It is therefore submitted that the instant invention has been shown and described in what is considered to be the most practical and preferred embodiments. It is recognized, however, that departures may be made within the scope of the invention and that obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art. With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of the invention, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by the present invention.
  • Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention.
