Abstract
A shoe cover is a sheet made of a water impermeable material formed in a continuous loop and having a shoe shape. The sheet includes a top rim defining an open top end and a bottom rim defining an open bottom end. The open bottom end is substantially larger than the open top end. For example, the open bottom end may be at least twice as large in diameter than the open top end. A first continuous elastomeric band is joined along the entire open top rim, and a second continuous elastomeric band is joined to the entire open bottom rim. The water impermeable material may be a transparent or translucent flexible plastic.
Description
- The present invention relates to protecting shoes from moisture and, more particularly, to a cover for protecting shoes from moisture.
- While walking or running in the rain and snow, shoes will get wet and moisture may soak through to the user's socks. Wet socks are uncomfortable. Additionally, leather shoes may be ruined by moisture.
- As can be seen, there is a need for a shoe protector to protect shoes from moisture.
- In one aspect of the present invention, a shoe cover comprises: a sheet made of a water impermeable material formed in a continuous loop and having a shoe shape, the sheet comprising a top rim defining an open top end and a bottom rim defining an open bottom end, wherein the open bottom end is substantially larger than the open top end; a first continuous elastomeric band joined to the top rim; and a second continuous elastomeric band joined to the bottom rim.
- In another aspect of the present invention, a method of protecting a shoe comprises: providing a shoe cover comprising: a sheet made of a water impermeable material formed in a continuous loop and having a shoe shape, the sheet comprising a top rim defining an open top end and a bottom rim defining an open bottom end, wherein the open bottom end is substantially larger than the open top end; a first continuous elastomeric band joined to the top rim; and a second continuous elastomeric band joined to the bottom rim; and placing the shoe cover over a shoe so that the first continuous elastomeric band is wrapped around a neck of the shoe and the second continuous elastomeric band is wrapped around a sidewall of a sole of the shoe, leaving a bottom portion of the sole exposed.
- These and other features, aspects and advantages of the present invention will become better understood with reference to the following drawings, description and claims.
-
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the present invention; -
FIG. 2 is a side view of an embodiment of the present invention; -
FIG. 3 is a bottom view of an embodiment of the present invention; -
FIG. 4 is a perspective view of an alternative embodiment of the present invention; and -
FIG. 5 is a perspective view of an alternative embodiment of the present invention. - The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention, since the scope of the invention is best defined by the appended claims.
- Referring to
FIGS. 1 through 3 , the present invention includes a shoe cover. The shoe cover is asheet 12 made of a water impermeable material formed in a continuous loop and having a shoe shape. Thesheet 12 includes a top rim defining an open top end and a bottom rim defining an open bottom end. The open bottom end is substantially larger than the open top end. For example, the open bottom end may be at least twice as large in diameter than the open top end. A first continuouselastomeric band 11 is joined along the entire open top rim, and a second continuouselastomeric band 11 is joined to the entire open bottom rim. The water impermeable material may be a transparent or translucent flexible plastic. - A method of protecting a
shoe 14 may include the following. Providing a shoe cover including asheet 12 made of a water impermeable material formed in a continuous loop and having a shoe shape. Thesheet 12 includes a top rim defining an open top end and a bottom rim defining an open bottom end. The open bottom end is substantially larger than the open top end. A first continuouselastomeric band 11 is joined to the open top rim and a second continuouselastomeric band 11 is joined to the open bottom rim. Place the shoe cover over theshoe 14 so that the first continuouselastomeric band 11 is wrapped around a neck of theshoe 14 and the second continuouselastomeric band 11 is wrapped around a sidewall of a sole of theshoe 14, leaving a bottom portion of the sole exposed. The continuouselastomeric bands 11 retain the cover to theshoe 14. - Referring to
FIGS. 4 and 5 , the present invention may include acover 13, 15 for a cast. For example, the present invention may include aleg cast cover 15 and an arm cast cover 13. Theleg cast cover 15 may include asheet 12 made of a water impermeable material formed into an elongated continuous tube shape. Thesheet 12 includes a top rim defining an open top end and a bottom rim defining an open bottom end. A first continuouselastomeric band 11 is joined along the entire open top rim, and a second continuouselastomeric band 11 is joined to the entire open bottom rim. The leg cast cover 15 fits over a user's leg and cast. The continuouselastomeric bands 11 retain thecover 15 to the leg. The arm cast cover 13 may include asheet 12 made of a water impermeable material formed into an elongated continuous tube shape. Thesheet 12 includes a top rim defining an open top end and a closed bottom end. A continuouselastomeric band 11 is joined along the entire open top rim. The arm cast cover 13 may slip over a user's arm. The continuouselastomeric band 11 retains the cover to the arm. - It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing relates to exemplary embodiments of the invention and that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the following claims.
