While thecover 2 is being rotated relative to thedevice body 1 from the first cover orientation (FIG. 3A ) to the third cover orientation (FIG. 3B ), the pushingrod abutting end 423 is separated from theunit surface 39, and theauxiliary display unit 3 is therefore not pushed by the pushingrod abutting end 423. While thecover 2 is being rotated relative to thedevice body 1 from the third cover orientation (FIG. 3B ) to the second cover orientation (FIG. 3C ), the pushingrod abutting end 423 abuts theunit surface 39 and pushes theunit surface 39 to rotate theauxiliary display unit 3 to the second unit orientation. -
FIGS. 4A, 4B and 4C show theorientation adjustment mechanism 403 of a third embodiment of the invention. With reference toFIGS. 4A, 4B and 4C , in one embodiment, theorientation adjustment mechanism 403 includes afirst push member 431 and asecond push member 432. Thedevice body 1 includes ashaft 11. Thefirst push member 431 pivots on theshaft 11. Thefirst push member 431 includes a pushmember connection end 433 and afirst push portion 434. The pushmember connection end 433 is connected to thecover 2. Thesecond push member 432 includes a pushmember abutting end 435 and asecond push portion 436. The pushmember abutting end 435 abuts theauxiliary display unit 3. Thefirst push portion 434 is adapted to push thesecond push portion 436 and rotate thesecond push member 432. In this embodiment, thefirst push member 431 and thesecond push member 432 are rotated around an axis of theshaft 11. - With reference to
FIGS. 4A, 4B and 4C , in one embodiment, while thecover 2 is being rotated relative to thedevice body 1 from the first cover orientation (FIG. 4A ) to the third cover orientation (FIG. 4B ), thefirst push portion 434 does not push thesecond push portion 436, and thefirst push portion 434 therefore does not push theauxiliary display unit 3. While thecover 2 is being rotated relative to thedevice body 1 from the third cover orientation (FIG. 4B ) to the second cover orientation (FIG. 4C ), thefirst push portion 434 pushes thesecond push portion 436 to rotate thesecond push member 432, and the pushmember abutting end 435 pushes theauxiliary display unit 3 to the second unit orientation. -
FIGS. 5A, 5B and 5C show theorientation adjustment mechanism 404 of a fourth embodiment of the invention. With reference toFIGS. 5A, 5B and 5C , in one embodiment, theorientation adjustment mechanism 404 includes arotation rod 441 and arestriction plate 442. Apivot end 443 of therotation rod 441 pivots on thecover 2. Therestriction plate 442 is disposed on thedevice body 1. Therestriction plate 442 includes agroove 444. The other end of therotation rod 441 has a guidingpillar 445 and anabutting pillar 446. The guidingpillar 445 slides in thegroove 444, and theabutting pillar 446 is adapted to push theauxiliary display unit 3. - With reference to
FIGS. 5A, 5B and 5C , in one embodiment, while thecover 2 is being rotated relative to thedevice body 1 from the first cover orientation (FIG. 5A ) to the third cover orientation (FIG. 5B ), the guidingpillar 445 slides in thegroove 444, and theabutting pillar 446 does not push theauxiliary display unit 3. While thecover 2 is being rotated relative to thedevice body 1 from the third cover orientation (FIG. 5B ) to the second cover orientation (FIG. 5C ), the guidingpillar 445 slides in thegroove 444, and theabutting pillar 446 pushes and rotates theauxiliary display unit 3. - Utilizing the clamshell electronic device of the embodiment of the invention, when the cover is closed, the user can obtain such information as the time, weather or messages from the auxiliary display unit via the cover notch. Additionally, when the cover is opened (for example, the cover is in the second cover orientation relative to the device body), the user can also obtain such information as the time, weather or messages directly from the auxiliary display unit without switching the windows in the screen.
- Use of ordinal terms such as “first”, “second”, “third”, etc., in the claims to modify a claim element does not by itself connote any priority, precedence, or order of one claim element over another or the temporal order in which acts of a method are performed, but are used merely as labels to distinguish one claim element having a certain name from another element having the same name (but for use of the ordinal term).
- While the invention has been described by way of example and in terms of the preferred embodiments, it should be understood that the invention is not limited to the disclosed embodiments. On the contrary, it is intended to cover various modifications and similar arrangements (as would be apparent to those skilled in the art). Therefore, the scope of the appended claims should be accorded the broadest interpretation so as to encompass all such modifications and similar arrangements.
