Description

    CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
  • This application claims the benefit of priority under 35 U.S.C § 119(e) to U.S. Provisional Patent Application Ser. No. 62/580,799, titled “SLEEVE CONTAINER WITH INTEGRATED SECURITY SLOT,” filed on Nov. 2, 2017, the disclosure of which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety for all purposes.
  • FIELD OF THE INVENTION
  • The present disclosure generally relates to security device and more particularly, to a container for a laptop or other valuable device, having an integrated security slot for securing the container via a cable lock.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • A lock can be used on the casing of a laptop computer to prevent it from being removed or stolen while the user is away. Such locks include various cable locks also known as “laptop security locks” or “laptop cable locks”, which can be secured around a stationary object at one end and locked to the laptop computer casing at the other end. However, some laptop computers do not feature any ways to attach the lock directly to the casing. Therefore, there remains a need in the art for new devices and methods for securing laptop computers and similar electronic devices.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The disclosure provides a device, such as a laptop case, bag, backpack, and the like, i.e. a “container,” which includes an integrated security slot for a laptop lock, which is typically a cable-lock type design. The design is such that when the container is closed and the lock is inserted into and engaged with the security slot, the container cannot be opened to access the contents inside. Further, the lock can optionally secured to a stationary object or a permanent fixture. The device construction includes materials that are cut and/or tear resistant so the enclosed device is safely secured.
  • Thus, in one embodiment the disclosure provides a device for securing an electronic device, which includes a container having an opening with a closable access flap; and an integrated security slot in the container, wherein the closable access flap includes an access hole for accessing the integrated security slot.
  • In another embodiment, the disclosure provides a method of securing an electronic device, which includes locking the electronic device into a security device; and securing the security device to a stationary object, wherein the security device includes: a container having an opening with a closable access flap; and an integrated security slot in the container, wherein the closable access flap includes an access hole for accessing the integrated security slot.
  • In another embodiment, the disclosure provides a system for securing an electronic device, which includes a container having an opening with a closable access flap; an integrated security slot in the container; an access hole in the closable access flap for accessing the integrated security slot; and a cable lock attachment, with a proximal locking end and a distal securing end, wherein the distal securing end can be attached to any permanent or semi-permanent fixture for securing the container.

  • Normally, a cable laptop lock is connected to an immovable object, such as a desk or a pole, and then locked to a laptop using the laptop's security slot. However, many laptops do not have a security slot, and therefore cannot be easily used with a cable laptop lock.
  • In one embodiment, the disclosure provides another way for a user to secure their electronic devices, e.g. laptops, etc., and other valuable devices and/or goods by enabling the usage of a cable laptop lock to secure the container that contains their belongings. A single cable laptop lock can both secure the contents of the container from unauthorized access and be secured normally to another object.
  • FIG. 1A illustrates an embodiment of a front view of a container (101) with an integrated security slot (102) in an open position. As shown in this figure, the container (101) includes an access flap (103) in an opened position, that has an access hole (104) centered therein, which allows access to the integrated security slot (102) when the access flap (103) is in a closed position.
  • In different embodiments, the container can be made of any material including but not limited to leather, plastic, fabric, and combinations thereof. The container may be reinforced throughout the container or only in certain areas using similar types of materials, especially around the integrated security slot. The container can also include fastening devices, e.g. hook-and-loop fasteners such as VELCRO® straps and the like, a button, and/or a magnetic device, which help to secure the inside of the access flap to the outside of the container.
  • FIG. 1B illustrates an embodiment of a front view of a container (101) with an integrated security slot (102) in a closed position. As shown in this figure, the access flap (103) of the container (101) is in a closed position onto the container (101). The integrated security slot (102) present on the container (101) can be accessed through the access hole (104) in the access flap (103). The access flap (103) may also be reinforced around the access hole (104) with similar types of materials, especially around the integrated security slot (102).
  • FIG. 2A illustrates an embodiment of a front view of a container (101) with an integrated security slot (102) in access flap (103), shown in a closed position with a cable lock attachment (106). The other end of a cable lock can be attached to any permanent or semi-permanent fixture for securing the container (101).
  • FIG. 2B illustrates an embodiment of a close-up front view of a container (101) with an integrated security slot (102) in access flap (103), shown in a closed position with a cable lock attachment (106). As shown in this figure, the cable lock attachment (106) fits securely into an integrated security slot to secure the integrated container (101) and its contents.
  • FIG. 3A illustrates an embodiment of a close-up front view of a container (101) with an integrated security slot (102) in access flap (103) with access hole (104), shown in an open position.
