Description

Nov. 5', 1.935. w. SPROULL 2,
JACKET FOR CARBON PAPER Filed April 2, 1934 INVENTOR I ATTO Patented Nov. 5,' 1935 UNITED STATES" PATENT OFFICE JACKET FOB CARBON PAPER Application April 2, 1934, Serial No. 718,550 8 Claims. (Cl. 208-62) This invention relates to packaging and dispensing sheets of paper and is particularly adaptable to sheets of carbon paper due to its fragile and adherent nature.
The invention has for its purpose the provision of a suitablecontainer for carbon paper which will fully protect loose sheets of paper in transportation and storage and yet facilitate withdrawal of a single sheet of paper for use from a plurality of sheets contained within a package.
A better understanding of this invention will be had from the following description and by reference to the drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pack of carbon sheets within a folder, the folder and carbon sheets being within an outer carton; and
Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective of a folder enclosing a stack of carbon sheets, the folder with enclosed carbon sheets being removed from the outer carton.
Because carbon paper is extremely fragile, perishable and diflicult to handle particularly when covered to afford suitable protection for the surrounding articles, the invention is shown in connection with packaging and dispensing sheets of carbon paper.
It is necessary to enclose carbon paper in a suitable carton, either rigid or semi-rigid in nature, particularly when being transported. to protect it and to protect surrounding objects. Furthermore, because of the natural adhering characteristic of carbon paper, it is diiflcult to withdraw a single sheet from a stack or file of carbon sheets. In an attempt to partially overcome this difilculty it has been the practice to enclose a plurality of carbon sheets within a folder, one or more of which may be placed in an outer carton or container. This facilitates counting and withdrawing a relatively small number of sheets but does not aid materially in withdrawing a single sheet. It is to this latter problem that this invention is particularly addressed.
Referring to the drawing, it will be seen that a stack of carbon sheets I is enclosed within a folder 2, one or more folders and enclosed sheets being enclosed within an outer carton or container 3 having a hinged cover 4.
The folder comprises a lower sheet I attached at its rear edge to an upper sheet or cover I, the two sheets being free at their other ends for the reception of any desired number of sheets of carbon paper. In the present instance, the lower and upper sheets comprise a continuous sheet folded on itself intermediate its length to provide the folder 2. The upper sheet or cover I has one corner of the free end cut away as at 8 whereby a corner of the upper sheet of the enclosed carbon papers i is exposed and may be grasped to remove the sheet from the pack.
To retain the remaining sheets within the 5 folder, as the top sheet is being withdrawn, the lower sheet 6 is provided at its free end with a flap 8 extending upwardly from the corner opposite tothe cut-away portion 8 of the upper sheet. This flap 8 is folded over the stack of carbon 10 sheets and underlies the cover I.
In use, it is only necessary to raise the lid 4. grasp the top sheet of carbon papers, lift the latter sheet until its forward edge is above flap 8. and withdraw it forwardly. In so doing. flap 8 15 is raised forward slightly as the sheet is raised and then springs back and retains the remaining sheets while the upper sheet alone is withdrawn. If desired, the folder 2 with its stack of carbon sheets may be withdrawn from the carton and used as a separate folder independent of the carton.
The advantages of the foregoing invention will be apparent from the description, and it will also be obvious that the invention may be applied to papers other than carbon papers and that minor changes may be made in the details of construction and arrangement without departing from the spirit and scope of this invention as defined in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A paper holder comprising a bottom sheet, a cover connected at one end of said bottom sheet and free therefrom at its other end to form a folder for receiving a plurality of sheets of paper, 5 said cover having a portion of a free edge cut away to permit grasping the top sheet of paper for withdrawal, and means for retaining the lower sheets of paper within said folder while the top sheet is being withdrawn.
2. A paper holder comprising a bottom sheet, a flexible cover connected at one end of said bottom sheet and free therefrom at its other end to form a folder for receiving a plurality of sheets of paper, said cover having a portion of a free 45 edge cut away to permit grasping the top sheet of paper for withdrawal, and means for retaining the lower sheets of paper within said folder while the top sheet is being withdrawn.
3. A paper holder comprising a bottom sheet, 50 a cover connected at one end to said bottom sheet and free therefrom at its other end to form a folder for receiving a plurality of sheets of paper, said cover having a portion of a free edge cut away to permit grasping the top sheet of said 68 ing means thereon for retaining the lower sheets of paper within said folder while the top sheet is being withdrawn. 7
5. A paper holder comprising-a bottom sheet and a cover connected at one end to said bottom sheet and free therefronr at its other end to form a folder for receiving a plurality of sheets of paper, said cover having a portion of a free edge cut away to permit grasping the top sheet of paper for withdrawal, said bottom sheet having a flap on its free end for retaining the lower sheets of paper within said folder while the top sheet is being withdrawn.
8. A paper holder comprising a bottom sheetand a cover connected-at one endto said bottom sheet and free therefrom at its other end to form a folder for receiving a plurality of sheets of paper, said cover having a portion of a free edge cut away to permit grasping the top sheet of paper for withdrawal. said bottom sheet having a flap on its free end at a point removed from aoiaeoa the cut-away portion of said cover for retaining the lower sheets of paper within said folder while the top sheet is being withdrawn. 7
-7. A carbon paperholder comprising a bottom-sheet and a cover connected at one end to said bottom sheet and free therefrom at its other end to form a folder for receiving a plurality of sheets of carbon paper, said cover having one of its free corners cut away to permit grasping the topsheet of carbon paper foriwithdrawai, 10
said bottom sheet being provided at its free corner removed from the cut-away corner of said cover with an'upstandingflap for retaining the lower sheets of carbon paper within said folder while the top sheet is being withdrawn.
l5 8. The combination of a carton for containing carbon paper and having a hinged cover adjacent one end, with a folder for a plurality of sheets of carbon paper, said folder comprising an upper 'and lower sheet connected at one end 20 and free at their other ends, saidfolder being adapted to be received within said carton with its free ends underlying the hinged cover thereof, said upp sheet of 'said folder having a portion of its free edge cut away to permit grasp- 25 ing of the top sheet of carbon paper and said bottom sheet'havingan upstanding flap to retain the lower sheets-of carbon papers within said folder while thetop sheet is being withdrawn.
