Description

    BACKGROUND
  • A slip is an undergarment worn beneath a dress or skirt to help the dress or skirt hang smoothly and to prevent chafing of the skin from coarse fabrics (e.g., wool). Slips are also worn for warmth, and to protect fine fabrics from perspiration. A full slip may hang from the shoulders by means of narrow straps, and may extends from the chest to just above the skirt length. A half slip can hang from the waist, and such a slip may also be called a waist slip.
  • Slips are often worn to prevent the show through of intimate undergarments such as panties or a brassiere. A slip may also be used to prevent a silhouette of the legs showing through clothing when standing in front of a bright light source. Other uses for slips are to make a dress or skirt hang properly, the prevention of chafing to the skin, to protect the outer garment from damage due to perspiration, or for warmth, especially if the dress or skirt is lightweight and thin. In very warm and/or humid climates, a slip made from cotton may be desired.
  • Slips may fall into two major categories. A full slip is hung from the shoulders by straps that extend down to the top of the chest area. Full slips can come in a variety of lengths. Some slips extend down to the upper thigh, some to just above the knees, or just below the knees, while others go down to just above the ankles. A waist slip, sometimes referred to as a half slip, may be held on to the body around the waist by means of an elastic waistband. The waist slip is also available in the same lengths as the aforementioned full slip. Waist slips that extend down to just above the ankle are often called formal or maxi slips.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1 illustrates an example of a garment.
  • FIG. 2 illustrates an example of a garment with snaps or attachments in the briefs.
  • FIG. 3 illustrates an example of an garment with a hook and loop fastener in the briefs.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION
  • Reference will now be made to the exemplary examples illustrated in the drawings, and specific language will be used herein to describe the same. It will nevertheless be understood that no limitation of the scope of the technology is thereby intended. Alterations and further modifications of the features illustrated herein, and additional applications of the examples as illustrated herein, which would occur to one skilled in the relevant art and having possession of this disclosure, are to be considered within the scope of the description.
  • Technologies are described that form a garment. FIG. 1 illustrates that the garment 100 may include a body garment 120, which may be sized and shaped to fit at least a chest of a body. The body garment can include a neck aperture 122, a lower torso aperture with a lower edge 124 and a pair of arm apertures 126 a-b. The garment 100 may include a body garment 120 with a collar 122 and sleeves 128.
  • A body shaper 140 can be an elastic sleeve with an upper opening with a top edge 142 attached to the lower edge 123 of the lower torso aperture of the body garment 120 along an entire length of the upper and lower edges forming a continuous seam between the body garment and the body shaper and closing the lower torso aperture and the upper aperture together. The continuous seam may circumscribe the body when worn or create a seam between the body shaper 140 and the body garment 120 that is 360 degrees. The elastic sleeve can have a lower opening with a bottom edge 144. In one example, the body shaper 140 can extend from approximately a person's lower sternum (e.g., mid-chest) to an abdomen or from a person's false ribs to an abdomen.
  • The body shaper 140 or other portions of the garment can be an elasticated fabric or stretch fabric. Examples of elasticated fabric may be spandex or other fabrics containing neoprene or elastic fabric. In some more specific examples, the fabric may be 92% polyester and 8% spandex, 80% nylon and 20% spandex, or 70% nylon and 30% spandex. The stretch fabric may stretch in 2 ways or 4 ways. The body shaper 140 may use an elastic fabric that is configured to shape a torso of a person wearing the garment. The shaping of the torso may help to hide or smooth out body imperfections or changes in body shape created by a dress or other underclothing.
  • The garment can include a briefs portion 160 sized and shaped to fit a loins of the body. The briefs portion 160 can have an upper waist opening with an upper edge 162 attached to the bottom edge 144 of the sleeve of the body shaper 140 along an entire length of the upper and lower edges forming a continuous seam between the body garment and the underpants portion. The continuous seam may close the lower opening and the upper waist opening together. In addition, the underpants portion 160 can have a pair of leg openings 164 a-b through which a person's leg may pass.
  • A half slip 170 can be attached in proximity of the bottom edge 144 of the body shaper 140. The half slip 170 may be decorated with lace 172, colored fabric or other decorative fabric.
  • The garment as described may serve as a dual purpose garment to be seen outside persons clothing and as a partial-undergarment. More specifically, the body garment on top to be seen in part through a dress or shirt that worn over this garment. In addition, the garment may be used as a skirt extender to be seen below the skirt. This is in contrast to existing slips which are generally designed not to be seen by others.
  • FIG. 2 illustrates a garment 200. The garment 200 may include a body garment 120 having a collar 122 and sleeves 128, wherein the body garment 120 is a first fabric. For example, the first fabric may be cotton, nylon or another type of non-stretchable fabric.
  • The garment may include a body shaper 140 having a top edge 142 attached or sewn to the body garment 120 and bottom edge 124. The body shaper may be a second fabric that is an elasticated fabric or stretchable fabric. The second fabric used for the body shaper can be an elastic fabric sized to shape a body of a person wearing the garment. This may mean that the body shaper is size to be tight on a body of a person to constrict and smooth out a persons body surface. In addition, the body shaper can extend from under a person's mid to lower sternum to an abdomen.
  • A half slip 170 can be attached at the bottom edge 144 of the body shaper 140. An underpants portion 160 can be attached at the bottom edge of the body shaper. A clasp 180 a-b or clasp system be included to join a first fabric flap 182 and second fabric flap 184 of the underpants 160 at a crotch. The clasp may be a snap or hook type of clasp.
  • In one example configuration, a body shaper 140 can have a top edge 142 of the body shaper attached to the bottom edge the body garment 120. The half slip 170 can be attached near the bottom edge of the body shaper 144. Further, an underpants portion 160 can also attached near or in proximity the bottom edge 144 of the body shaper 140.
  • FIG. 3 illustrates that a hook and loop fastener may be used to join the first fabric flap 182 and second fabric flap 184 of the underpants portion 160 at the crotch or bottom most point of the underpants portion 160. A hook portion 190 of a fastener can be located on the second fabric flap 184 and a loop portion 192 of the fastener can be located on a first fabric flap. The loop portion 192 is depicted in dotted lines to illustrate that the loop portion 192 may be on the opposite side of the first fabric flap 182. The loop portion and hook portions may also be reversed with regard to the flap that the parts of the fastener may be used on.
  • Furthermore, the described features, structures, or characteristics may be combined in any suitable manner in one or more examples. In the preceding description, numerous specific details were provided, such as examples of various configurations to provide a thorough understanding of examples of the described technology. One skilled in the relevant art will recognize, however, that the technology can be practiced without one or more of the specific details, or with other methods, components, devices, etc. In other instances, well-known structures or operations are not shown or described in detail to avoid obscuring aspects of the technology.
  • Although the subject matter has been described in language specific to structural features and/or operations, it is to be understood that the subject matter defined in the appended claims is not necessarily limited to the specific features and operations described above. Rather, the specific features and acts described above are disclosed as example forms of implementing the claims. Numerous modifications and alternative arrangements can be devised without departing from the spirit and scope of the described technology.
