Abstract

An all-in-one window covering solution and system is described. The system is bundled with all components of a complete window covering solution, including at least one extension rod, at least one window covering, mounts/brackets, and mounting adhesive. The mounting adhesive is preferably configured to be strongly affixed to walls, and yet be flexible enough to be removed without damage to the wall, unlike conventional window covering mounting brackets. As such, the system employs no screws, bolts, or nails, and therefore does not require any tools for installation or removal. All components of the system are included in a single package, facilitating and expediting component selection and final installation. The adhesive component of the system provides for adjustment and reuse of the system if needed.

Description

  • This application is a non-provisional patent application of non-provisional patent application Ser. No. 15/997,632, filed on Jun. 4, 2018, which directs to provisional patent application No. 62/514,558, filed on Jun. 2, 2017, and priority is claimed thereto.
  • FIELD OF THE PRESENT INVENTION
  • The present invention relates in general to window covering systems, and more specifically relates to a system for mounting and subsequently hanging a window covering system such that it covers one or more windows with a unitary rod, suspended by hooks, brackets, or mounts that may be repositioned, and are therefore not hard-mounted with screws.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE PRESENT INVENTION
  • Window coverings are often a necessity for many residences. Either for privacy, or to reduce the heat of sunlight in the summer, window coverings can be quite useful. In particular, they are used to block light (not only sunlight), for privacy, energy saving, and noise reduction. Additionally, flame retardant curtains exist, which provide both privacy and peace of mind. Presently, a wide variety of window covering solutions exist on the market. Shades, blinds and curtains are the dominant forms of window coverings, each being configured to cover the entirety of a window at the will of the user, or to be pulled up or to the sides when desired.
  • Unfortunately, due in part to the countless forms, colors, sizes, and styles of mounting hardware of such window coverings, buyers are often stalled in their quest for the ideal window covering solution. Presently, buyers are usually required to purchase curtain rods, mounting hardware such as hooks/brackets, and curtains/drapes separately. Usually, these items are even purchased from different suppliers in order to fully customize the window covering solution to the layout and design of the residence or workplace. Brackets may be bundled with the curtain rod conventionally, however it is never bundled with a no-tool adhesive for installation, and the bundles are not always ideal if additional customization is desired. Additionally, conventional brackets requiring screws that are packaged with rods are never bundled with curtain or drapes.
  • As such, it can take some buyers a great deal of time to weigh all of the options of color of curtains/drapes, length/width of the curtains/drapes, style of window covering, color of mounting hardware, length of curtain rods, type of mounts, and other factors, leading to a delay of the installation of the window covering. Then, once the buyer decides on each element of the window covering, the buyer must individually unbox each element separately. Additionally, some buyers may need to purchase additional tools in order to correctly mount and hang the window coverings, leading to additional costs. For example, some installations may require the purchase of expensive tools such as power drills, drill bits, and line lasers to ensure alignment.
  • Conventional window treatments generally require the user to physically mount at least two brackets, hooks, or other mounting mechanisms to the wall such that they are level. The brackets are generally affixed to the wall above the window with screws or a similar mounting mechanism which are semi-permanent. As such, the screws traditionally may not be easily moved if the window treatment is not initially installed correctly to be level with the window. Unsightly holes are left in the wall if such a movement of the mounts is required, or if the user opts for a new form of window covering, such as blinds, which require nearly precise measuring and marking before drilling and screwing them into a fixed position. Alternately, some may attempt to hang window treatments on the actual window frame, which is known to occur when hanging blinds or shades. However, such installations leave holes that are even more difficult to patch and repair.
  • If there were a way in which the buying process for window coverings could be simplified, such that the components of a window covering solution were packaged together rather than separately, users could find the ideal window covering solution faster and without difficulty. Additionally, if there were a way in which users could mount a window covering without the need for additional tools, and in such a way that users could reposition the angle of the window covering, such as the curtain rod during the mounting process, fewer errors would result.
  • Thus, there is a need for a new window covering system which is contained in a unified package, expediting and simplifying the buying process. Additionally, such a system may preferably be installed in position with adhesive-based mounts, providing for repositioning during installation if needed. Such a system is preferably configured to be easily installed by an individual without the need to leave any lasting holes in the wall from screws or drilling. Additionally, such a system prevents the potential risk of injury when using power tools during installation. It is envisioned that, due to the nature of this system, the user may simply ‘eyeball’ placement of the mounts, rather than be required to precisely measure and level the window covering, unlike other boxed window covering solutions on the market.
  • Currently, there is no product on the market that provides all necessary components in an “all-in-one” kit, including window treatments, rod(s), mounting brackets which do not require tools, and that cause no damage to walls. Similarly, there is no solution on the market that provides a damage-free hanging solution which does not require the user to measure the target location. Likewise, the present invention is the only system which includes mounting brackets specifically designed for using curtains/drapes, and for use with adhesive.
  • Additionally, the method of the present invention is the only solution which provides for the height of the window treatment to be adjusted (such as to reach the sill, to reach the floor, or anywhere in between) at any time, such as to change the appearance/décor for holidays such as Christmas, or to change the height for safety, such as the placement of a candle in the windowsill. The present invention presents the only solution which teaches a mere estimation or ‘eyeballing’ of the hanging of the window treatment, as others all require measuring. As such, the present invention eliminates the need for perfect measurements in general.
  • Similarly, it should be noted that present solutions on the market, including Do-It-Yourself (DIY) methods of employing adhesive strips to affix a curtain rod are ineffective in comparison to the present invention as such methods leave the rod too close to the wall or window frame for the curtains or drapes to properly function. In contrast, the method and system of the present invention facilitates the installation of removable window coverings which are fully functional, and are therefore able to freely open and close.
  • SUMMARY OF THE PRESENT INVENTION
  • This Summary of the Invention is provided to introduce a selection of concepts in a simplified form that are further described below in the Detailed Description. This Summary is not intended to identify key features or essential features of the claimed subject matter, nor is it intended to be used to limit the scope of the claimed subject matter.
  • The present invention is a method and system for the use of a window covering solution configured for use over conventional windows (or on the window frame) such as those traditionally found in residences and businesses. The preferred embodiment of the present invention provides an all-in-one solution, including window coverings (notably curtains, drapes, shades, and/or blinds), at least one curtain rod, mounts and/or brackets, and durable adhesive strips.
  • The method of use of the present invention namely centers on mounting the window coverings, including the curtain rod, via a strong, semi-permanent adhesive. The adhesive is preferably strong enough to sustain several pounds without movement, and may be removed at the will of the user with minimal effort. As such, the solution provided by the present invention enables the user to temporarily mount window coverings, such as in a rental or apartment, and easily remove the window coverings, including the mounts, and leave no damage to the wall in the form of a hole or puncture mark.

  • FIG. 1 depicts a view of the present invention from the front side, showing the individual components of the present invention.
  • FIG. 2 details a view of the present invention as installed to a window frame.
  • FIG. 3 details a view of the present invention as installed to a window frame while equipped with a window treatment.
  • FIG. 4 shows a flow chart detailing the process of installation and use of the present invention by a user.
  • FIG. 5 depicts a profile view of the mounting bracket and adhesive wall mount of the apparatus of the present invention.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
  • The present specification discloses one or more embodiments that incorporate the features of the invention. The disclosed embodiment(s) merely exemplify the invention. The scope of the invention is not limited to the disclosed embodiment(s). The invention is defined by the claims appended hereto.
  • References in the specification to “one embodiment,” “an embodiment,” “an example embodiment,” etc., indicate that the embodiment described may include a particular feature, structure, or characteristic, but every embodiment may not necessarily include the particular feature, structure or characteristic. Moreover, such phrases are not necessarily referring to the same embodiment. Further, when a particular feature, structure, or characteristic is described in connection with an embodiment, it is submitted that it is within the knowledge of one skilled in the art to effect such feature, structure, or characteristic in connection with other embodiments whether or not explicitly described.
  • The present invention is a window covering system and method configured for use over windows conventionally present within residences and businesses. Additionally, the preferred embodiment of the present invention is envisioned as an all-in-one solution, which enables the user to purchase all the requisite hardware of a window covering in one package. The system of the present invention requires no tools, helping to facilitate installation. As such, unlike conventional window coverings, no screwdrivers or drills are needed for a seamless installation of the system.
  • The preferred embodiment of the present invention is equipped with an extension rod (10), window coverings (20), (preferably in the form of drapes, tiers, swags, valances, sheers, and/or curtains), adhesive wall mounts (30), and mounting brackets (40). The adhesive wall mounts (30) are preferably disposed on a rear (50) of a lateral portion (80) of the mounting brackets (40) as shown in FIG. 5. The lateral portion (80) is preferably long enough to ensure the present invention may handle the weight of the apparatus by maximizing the surface area of the adhesive wall mounts (30) to the wall. The adhesive of the adhesive wall mounts (30) is preferably 3M™ Command Brand™ adhesive, configured to be affixed to drywall or wood-based walls without damaging the wall upon removal. The adhesive wall mounts (30) preferably employ either hook/loop for attachment, or conventional 3M™ adhesive.
  • The extension rod (10) of the present invention is preferably adjustable, and is preferably composed of a plastic or metal. It is envisioned that the extension rod (10) of the present invention be equipped with finial hardware or space for finials to be attached if desired by the end user. The diameter and the length of the extension rod (10) may vary depending on the set selected by the end user. A screw (60) may be present within the mounting brackets (40) to ensure that the extension rod (10) remains in the preferred position, even during adjustment of the window coverings (20). The screw (60) serves to provide pressure against the extension rod (10), binding it against a curved end (70) of the mounting bracket (40). The screw (60) is preferably turned by hand, ensuring no use of tools is needed.
  • The solution of the present invention primarily varies from existing solutions on the market in that it is packaged together in an all-in-one solution, and that it enables the user to ‘eyeball’ measurements, and reapply the adhesive wall mounts (30) of the mounting brackets (40) if an adjustment is needed. This is especially useful in scenarios in which the user does not wish for the curtain to be precisely level with an element, such as the window sill or the ceiling, in the event that the walls of the structure are not square, or when the floor is not level with the ceiling.
  • In such cases, it is useful for the user to be able to simply eyeball where to mount the mounting brackets (40), and then, with the extension rod (10) disposed within the mounting brackets (40), or at the minimum, a single mounting bracket (40), the user may then reposition each bracket according to what looks the best. Such a method is instrumental for use in structures which have a floor that is not level, yet the window is level with the ceiling. In such cases, users generally adjust to what looks the most pleasing, because a level placement of the window covering would sometimes yield window coverings coming into contact with the floor on one side underneath the window. Additionally, the system of the present invention is instrumental in structures in which wall materials are not suitable for easy drilling, such as concrete, wire reinforced plaster, brick, and similar exposed walls.
  • To better clarify and define the novelty of the present invention, the conventional system of hanging window coverings can be generally defined as the following:
      • 1. A user purchases window treatments and rod/brackets separately, perhaps even from different stores/vendors.
      • 2. The user arrives home and unpacks the separate boxes containing the components.
      • 3. The user then marks the desired placement positions of brackets on a wall (surface).
      • 4. Then, the user marks the second bracket placement on the wall.
      • 5. Then, the user drills the brackets into place using tool purchased elsewhere and included screws.
      • 6. The user then places the extension/curtain rod on the brackets to ensure alignment, and that it is level.
      • 7. The user then removes the extension rod, and adds window treatments to the extension rod.
      • 8. Finally, the user may hang the extension rod with window treatments to the brackets.
  • In contrast, the process of installation and use of the present invention by a user, as depicted in FIG. 4, is preferably as follows:
      • 1. First, the user purchases window treatments, the extension rod, and the mounting brackets together in single package. (100)
      • 2. The user then unpacks the single box, revealing the contents of the system. (110)
      • 3. Then, the user has no need to mark placement of brackets on wall as no tool damage will result of any misplacement or change-of-mind. Marking of the wall in the preferred placement is however suggested for best alignment on the first attempt. (120)
      • 4. The user then removes the backing of one adhesive strip and attaches it to the provided first bracket/mount if not already pre-installed. (130)
      • 5. Then, the user removes the backing of one adhesive strip and attaches it to a second provided bracket/mount if not already pre-installed. (140)
      • 6. Then, the user ‘eye-balls’ where he/she wishes to hang the window covering, and attaches the first bracket to wall via the adhesive by pressing firmly. (150)
      • 7. Then, the user visualizes where an ideal placement of the second bracket, in relation to the first bracket, and attaches the second bracket to wall in the desired and level position via the adhesive by pressing firmly. (155) The user may place the extension rod (10) into the mounting bracket (40) to help to establish level placement as the extension rod (10) pivots about the mount (hook, socket, etc.) of the mounting bracket (40).
      • 8. The user then extends the extension rod, and verifies that the system is level with the window sill, ceiling, or other desired reference point. (160)
      • 9. Then, the user places the window coverings on the extension rod. (170)
      • 10. Finally, the user then hangs the extension rod (equipped with the window coverings) on the installed brackets. (180)
      • 11. If the user is unhappy with placement of the system, the user may then remove a bracket from the wall, and attach a new adhesive mount for replacement. (190) Additional adhesive strips are preferably included in the package, however additional strips may be purchased if needed.
  • It should be understood that the components of the present invention are preferably colored and styled to be aesthetically pleasing when assembled, and are therefore an ideal choice of complete window covering package for a wide populace. Similarly, it should be understood that embodiments of the present invention may vary with their size, style, pattern, texture, and color. Additionally, it should be understood that the present invention could be envisioned for use as an outside mounting system for shades and/or blinds.
  • Some alternate embodiments may include a lateral portion (80) which is removable, including the rear (50). Such embodiments may facilitate the installation of the present invention, which may allow the adhesive of the adhesive wall mounts (30) to cure prior to adding the weight of the remainder portion of the apparatus of the present invention.
  • It should be understood that the present invention differs from the attributes of the prior art, as the present invention employs an extended lateral portion (80), and a curved end (70) which extends far enough from the wall so as to facilitate the use and movement of the window coverings (20) without risking damage to the window coverings (20), or risking detachment of the adhesive of the adhesive wall mounts (30).
  • It should be noted that the embodiment of the present invention as depicted in FIG. 5 exhibits the curved end (70) configured to hold a curtain rod or similar is disposed at the bottom of the lateral portion (80) which provides additional stability and maximizes the surface strength of the system. This is in contrast to traditional brackets, which are disposed at the top of a lateral mounting member to be affixed to the wall or window frame.
  • Similarly, it should be noted that the present invention may be employed with similar forms of adhesive strips, and need not be limited to 3M™ Command™ strips. As such, products manufactured by Velcro™, or other adhesive brands may be employed as long as their cohesive properties are adequate to support the weight of the window treatment to be hung via the system and apparatus of the present invention.
  • It should be understood that the process of installation is configured to be executed by an amateur in only minutes (in as little as 90 seconds), however it is advised that the adhesive have time to cure. The rapid speed of deployment of the system of the present invention additionally differentiates the present invention from other systems present on the market.
  • Having illustrated the present invention, it should be understood that various adjustments and versions might be implemented without venturing away from the essence of the present invention. Further, it should be understood that the present invention is not solely limited to the invention as described in the embodiments above, but further comprises any and all embodiments within the scope of this application.
  • The foregoing descriptions of specific embodiments of the present invention have been presented for purposes of illustration and description. They are not intended to be exhaustive or to limit the present invention to the precise forms disclosed, and obviously many modifications and variations are possible in light of the above teaching. The exemplary embodiment was chosen and described in order to best explain the principles of the present invention and its practical application, to thereby enable others skilled in the art to best utilize the present invention and various embodiments with various modifications as are suited to the particular use contemplated.

Claims (2)

I claim:
1. A window covering system for damage-free hanging to a wall comprising:
an extension rod;
adhesive wall mounts;
mounting brackets;
wherein said adhesive wall mounts is disposed on a rear of said mounting brackets;
window coverings;
wherein said window coverings are in communication with said extension rod; and
wherein said adhesive wall mounts adheres to the wall, supporting said mounting brackets, said extension rod, and said window coverings.
2. A process of installing a window covering system comprising:
obtaining window treatments, an extension rod, a first mounting bracket, and a second mounting bracket together in single package;
unpacking the single package, revealing the contents of the system;
removing the backing of a first adhesive strip;
attaching the first adhesive strip to the first mounting bracket if not already pre-installed;
removing the backing of one adhesive strip and attaches it to a second provided bracket/mount if not already pre-installed;
estimating a desired location to hang the window covering;
attaching the first bracket to the wall via the adhesive by pressing firmly at the desired location;
visualizing where an ideal placement of the second bracket, in relation to the first bracket;
attaching the second bracket to the wall in the desired and level position via the adhesive by pressing firmly;
placing the extension rod into the first mounting bracket and second mounting bracket to help to establish level placement as the extension rod pivots about the mount of the mounting bracket;
extending the extension rod to extend between the first mounting bracket and second mounting bracket;
verifying that the system is level with the window sill, ceiling/other desired reference point;
placing the window coverings on the extension rod; and
hanging the extension rod equipped with window coverings on the installed first mounting bracket and second mounting bracket.
