Abstract

A raincoat is provided having a unitary main body and complementary magnets constructed and arranged to close the raincoat.

Description

    BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • Protecting persons in inclement weather is often a difficult task. As our world has gotten more complex, so have been the articles for protection. However, very often a person needs a simple solution.
  • The classic rain poncho that goes over one's head seems to provide a solution. However, there is a significant drawback with this configuration in that persons are not always in a situation where they are able to or comfortable with securing the poncho around their body with their heads protruding from the single opening.
  • Currently, raincoats are either ponchos, zippers, or buttons. It is very difficult in various situations to put on or take off raincoats that require two hands. The present invention provides an article configured with magnetic closures that allow a user to put on and take off the article utilizing a single hand.
  • The present invention addresses this current need.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention is constructed arranged with a classical co-configuration having securing means for securing the two open portions of the coat by utilizing opposing magnets.
  • In one embodiment, the present invention is a one piece rain/inclement weather garment with defined sleeve area and easy open close (magnetic/Velcro etc.) front that allows user to pull on like a jacket rather than be pulled over the head and quickly and easily.
  • People (women in particular) dislike having to pull a garment over the head it is uncomfortable, messes hair, have to remove items like hat or glasses first, inconvenient etc. The garment of the present invention is easily and quickly slid on in all applications (car, bus, sporting event, golf course) wide open sleeves and quick close front mean less effort needed when putting on or removing the garment
  • According to the present invention, the garment is configured to provide an easy on and off make it ideal for golf or other outdoor activities (hunting, fishing, cycling, etc.)
  • Garment has internal pocket/pouch that is a pocket when worn and a handy storage pouch when not in use so garment takes up little or no space and can be simply stored
  • It is contemplated, in one embodiment, that the garment of the present invention be configured to be each of lightweight, rain proof, easy carry, easy on/off and simple storage.
  • In the configuration of the garment of the present invention, one advantage is that it frees up both hands (unlike an umbrella) and can be quickly stored or secured so no chance of wind or rough weather blowing it away or causing damage (no hard parts to ben or break)
  • In the inventive configuration the fact that there is no zipper means easier to take on and off (saves time, more efficient).
  • In one embodiment, the present invention is a raincoat comprising:
      • a unitary main body;
      • said unitary main body having opposing terminal portions being a first front portion and a second front portion;
      • a pair of opposing magnets associated with each of said first front portion and said second front portion, said magnets congruently positioned in order to provide a magnetic closure of the article when said magnets are engaged.
  • In one embodiment, each of said magnets are circular.
  • In one embodiment, each of said magnets are rectangular.
  • In one embodiment, each of said magnets are rectangular and extends along terminal edges of each of said first front portion and said second front portion a distance of between 2-75% of each terminal edge.
  • In one embodiment, each of said magnets are rectangular and extends along terminal edges of each of said first front portion and said second front portion a distance of between 2-50% of each terminal edge.
  • In one embodiment, each of said magnets are rectangular and extends along terminal edges of each of said first front portion and said second front portion a distance of between 2-29% of each terminal edge.
  • In one embodiment, the invention includes a release member or strap attached to the first front portion. To use the release, said first front portion has associated therewith a release member for pulling outward, disengaging said magnets and opening the coat.
  • In one embodiment, the present invention is a raincoat consisting of:
      • a unitary main body;
      • said unitary main body having opposing terminal portions being a first front portion and a second front portion;
      • a pair of opposing magnets associated with each of said first front portion and said second front portion, said magnets congruently positioned in order to provide a magnetic closure of the article when said magnets are engaged.
  • In one embodiment, the present invention is a raincoat consisting of:
      • a unitary main body;
      • said unitary main body having opposing terminal portions being a first front portion, having a release member associated therewith, and a second front portion;
      • a pair of opposing magnets associated with each of said first front portion and said second front portion, said magnets congruently positioned in order to provide a magnetic closure of the article when said magnets are engaged.
    BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE SEVERAL VIEWS OF THE DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1 is a front view of the article of one embodiment of the present invention.
  • FIG. 2 is a front view partially closed according to one bottom of the present invention.
  • FIG. 3 is a front view fully closed according to one embodiment of the present invention.
  • FIG. 4 is a front view partially closed according to one bottom of the present invention.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
  • The present invention provides for article 10 formed of a unitary main body 12. Main body 12 has incorporated there with hood 14 first sleeve 18 second sleeve 20 first front portion 22 and second front portion 24. In one embodiment, first magnet 16 is incorporated with first front portion 22 and second magnet 17 is incorporated with second front portion 24.
  • In one embodiment, each of first magnet 16 and second magnet 17 are circular.
  • In another embodiment, as in FIG. 4, each of first magnet 30 and second magnet 32 are elongated rectangles extending along respective first vertical edge 26 of first front portion 22 and second vertical edge 28 second front portion 24.
  • It is contemplated that this article not only be used for persons as a matter of convenience, but persons having reduced or difficult motor and/or dexterity skills are more easily able to utilize the article the present invention.
  • In another embodiment, either one or both of first magnet 16 and first front portion 22 or first magnet 30 and second magnet 32 have associated there with a release member 34 extending outward whereby a person can apply outward pressure away from the body in order to disengage the magnets and open the coat. Although release 34 in the figures is a loop connected to first front portion 22, the release can be a single strand or any other suitable member where a user can pull front portion 22 away from the body and open the coat.
  • While the invention has been described in its preferred form or embodiment with some degree of particularity, it is understood that this description has been given only by way of example and that numerous changes in the details of construction, fabrication, and use, including the combination and arrangement of parts, may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
