Description

    TECHNICAL FIELD
  • The present application generally relates to a poker game, and, more particularly, to a poker dice game and method of playing in which participants roll a plurality of die to try and make as many legitimate poker hands as possible by connecting the dice together.
  • BACKGROUND
  • The card game of poker, with its many variations, has become an extremely popular form of entertainment. Poker is now a common social pastime for both gamblers and non-gamblers. The general aim of poker is to either collect a five card hand that is better than the five card hand of one or more opponents, or to try to bet in such a way as to cause opponents to believe that their hand is inferior and subsequently “fold” (concede or turn in) their hand. Typically, the game of poker involves several players competing against one another for one cumulative “pot” or sum of money. In casinos, the dealer or “house” draws a percentage, otherwise known as “the rake”, of each pot, thus generating revenue regardless of which player wins each hand.
  • Unfortunately, many people do not feel comfortable playing poker in a casino or at “friendly” games at a friend's home. This is especially true of novice poker players. Further, many people who wish to play poker just want to play for fun and do not wish to bet/lose any money.
  • While video and computer games have gained in popularity, many people still enjoy playing board/dice games (hereinafter board games). Board games provide an affordable alternative to the high cost associated with many video and computer games. Board games further tend to more family oriented than video and computer games.
  • Many people enjoy playing board games for entertainment as well as for educational purposes. Board games have traditionally offered a way for friends and families to bond and enjoy each other's company while simultaneously participating in a mutually entertaining activity.
  • Poker-related dice games have been developed, and often feature dice incorporating design markings similar to those used on and in connection with playing cards. The design markings may include suit markings (such as, for example, spades and diamonds) and/or value markings (such as, for example, aces, jacks, and the joker). The term “poker dice” is commonly used to refer to dice incorporating such markings.
  • Unfortunately, many poker-related dice games do not have properly designed dice that, when rolled, may produce all of the common poker hands (high card, pair, two pair, three of a kind, straight, flush, full house, four of a kind, straight flush, royal flush). Many poker-related dice games have specialty die made that have more sides than a standard die. These layouts generally make it difficult to produce all of the common poker hands. Further, most of these poker-related dice games do not elicit the fun/adrenaline as poker card games.
  • Therefore, it would be desirable to provide a poker dice game and method of playing that overcome the above problems.
  • SUMMARY
  • This summary is provided to introduce a selection of concepts in a simplified form that are further described below in the DESCRIPTION OF THE DISLCOSURE. This summary is not intended to identify key features of the claimed subject matter, nor is it intended to be used as an aid in determining the scope of the claimed subject matter.
  • In accordance with one aspect of the present disclosure, a method of playing a poker dice game is disclosed. The method comprises: rolling a plurality of dice by a first participant, wherein each dice has six surfaces, four of the six surfaces having indicia associated with a value and suit associated with a standard deck of playing cards and two of the six surfaces being blank; forming at least one legitimate poker hand with the plurality of dice; re-rolling any of the plurality of dice having one of the two surfaces being blank displayed on a top upright surface; and forming at least one additional legitimate poker hand with the plurality of dice, wherein the at least one additional legitimate poker hand connects to and has at least one common die with the plurality of dice forming the at least one legitimate poker hand.
  • In accordance with another aspect of the present disclosure, a method of playing a poker dice game is disclosed. The method comprises: determining an order of play for each participant; rolling a plurality of dice by a first participant, wherein each dice has six surfaces, four of the six surfaces having indicia associated with a value and suit associated with a standard deck of playing cards and two of the six surfaces being blank; forming at least one legitimate poker hand with the plurality of dice, wherein the first participant round ends if the first participant is unable to form at least one legitimate poker hand; re-rolling any of the plurality of dice having one of the two surfaces being blank displayed on a top upright surface by the first participant; and forming at least one additional legitimate poker hands with the plurality of dice by the first participant, wherein the at least one additional legitimate poker hand connects to and has at least one common die with the plurality of dice forming the at least one legitimate poker hand.
  • In accordance with another aspect of the present disclosure, a method of playing a poker dice game is disclosed. The method comprising: determining an order of play for each participant; rolling a plurality of dice by a first participant, wherein each dice has six surfaces, four of the six surfaces having indicia associated with a value and suit associated with a standard deck of playing cards and two of the six surfaces being blank; forming at least one legitimate poker hand with the plurality of dice, wherein the first participant round ends if the first participant is unable to form at least one legitimate poker hand; re-rolling any of the plurality of dice having one of the two surfaces being blank displayed on a top upright surface by the first participant if the first participant forms the at least one legitimate poker hand; trying to form at least one additional legitimate poker hands with the plurality of dice by the first participant, wherein the at least one additional legitimate poker hand connects to and has at least one common die with the plurality of dice forming the at least one legitimate poker hand; re-rolling any of the plurality of dice having one of the two surfaces being blank displayed on a top upright surface; and trying to form at least one further legitimate poker hand with the plurality of dice by the first participant, wherein the at least one further legitimate poker hand connects to and has at least one common die with the plurality of dice forming the at least one legitimate poker hand or the at least one additional legitimate poker hand.

  • The poker dice game may be played in different manners. For example, the poker dice game may be played for a predetermined number of rounds, for example 10 rounds. At the end of the ten rounds, the participant with the highest score may be declared the winner. Alternatively, the object of the poker dice game may be to be the first participant to reach a predetermined score, for example 10,000 points. The above are given as examples and should not be seen in a limiting manner.
  • To begin the game, a determination may be made as to the order of play for each participant. In accordance with one embodiment, each participant may roll the fourteenth die 100N. The participant who rolls the highest value may go first. Participants may then take turns going in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction from the highest rolling participant. Alternatively, the participant who rolls the highest value may go first, followed by the participant who rolled the next highest value and so on in descending value. If two or more participants roll the same value, those participants may roll again to determine the order with the participant rolling the higher number going prior to the participant rolling the lower number. The above are given as examples and should not be seen in a limiting manner. The order of play may be determined by other manners without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention.
  • Once the order of play is determined, the first participant may the roll the 13 dice 100A-100M. In accordance with one embodiment, a dice cup may be provided to shake and roll the 13 dice 100A-100M. In accordance with one embodiment, the dice cup may be a felt lined dice cup having a twist off lid.
  • Once the 13 dice 100A-100M are shaken and rolled, the participant may try and form as many legitimate poker hands based on the markings shown on the rolled dice 100A-100M. If the participant cannot form any legitimate poker hands based on the markings shown on the rolled dice 100A-100M on the initial roll, the 13 dice 100A-100M may be collected and the next participant may the roll the 13 dice 100A-100M. In accordance with one embodiment, on the initial roll, a legitimate poker hand of a pair of Jacks or better may be need to be shown on the rolled dice 100A-100M in order to continue. A listing of legitimate poker hands is shown below:
  • 1. Royal flush: A, K, Q, J, 10, all the same suit. See FIG. 4A.
  • 2. Straight flush: Five cards in a sequence, all in the same suit. See FIG. 4B.
  • 3. Four of a kind: All four cards of the same rank. See FIG. 4C.
  • 4. Full house: Three of a kind with a pair. See FIG. 4D.
  • 5. Flush: Any five cards of the same suit, but not in a sequence. See FIG. 4E.
  • 6. Straight: Five cards in a sequence, but not of the same suit. See FIG. 4F.
  • 7. Three of a kind: Three cards of the same rank. See FIG. 4G.
  • 8. Two pair: Two different pairs. See FIG. 4H.
  • 9. Pair: Two cards of the same rank. See FIG. 4I.
  • If at least one legitimate poker hand may be seen on the upright faces of the initialed rolled dice 100A-100M, the participant may align the dice that form the legitimate poker hand. The dice that form the legitimate poker hand may be aligned vertically or horizontally. The dice forming the legitimate poker hand do not need to be in numerical order. For example, if after the initialed rolled dice 100A-100M, a combination of the rolled dice 100A-100M show a straight, for example a Seven of Diamonds, a Six of Hearts, a Five of Clubs, a Four of Diamonds, and a Three of Diamonds, the dice showing the straight on the upright faces may be arranged in any numerical order in a horizontal or vertical manner. In other words, the dice showing the straight on the upright faces do not have to be aligned in an ascending or descending order. Thus, for example, the dice showing the straight on the upright faces may be arranged a Seven of Diamonds, a Four of Diamonds. a Five of Clubs, a Three of Diamonds, and a Six of Hearts or other combinations thereof.
  • If multiple legitimate poker hands are formed, the dice forming both legitimate poker hands may be connected together either horizontally or vertically and may have one or more common die. If both legitimate poker hands cannot be connected together either horizontally or vertically, then the participant may only use one of the legitimate poker hands. For example, in the case above, after the participant rolled the dice 100A-100M, a combination of the rolled dice 100A-100M show a straight, for example a Seven of Diamonds, a Six of Hearts, a Five of Clubs, a Four of Diamonds, and a Three of Diamonds, and a pair of Jacks, for example a Jack of Clubs and a Jack of Diamonds on the upright faces of the dice. If the participant lines the dice showing the straight on the upright faces in a horizontal or vertical manner, the dice showing the pair of Jacks may not be used since neither Jack can connect with the dice showing the straight. However, if the combination of the rolled dice 100A-100M show a straight, for example a Seven of Diamonds, a Eight of Hearts, a Nine of Clubs, a Ten of Diamonds, and a Jack of Diamonds, and a Jack, for example a Jack of Clubs, on the upright faces of the dice. The participant may then line the dice showing the straight on the upright faces in a horizontal or vertical manner, the other dice showing the Jack of Clubs may then be aligned with the Jack of Diamonds to form a pair of Jacks.
  • Once the participant has formed one or more legitimate poker hands and aligned the dice forming the one or more legitimate poker hands, the participant may pick-up any on the initially rolled dice having a blank face and have no design markings on the upright face. The participant may then re-roll these having the blank face. After rerolling the dice showing having blank and no markings on the upright faces, the participant may try again to form additional legitimate poker hands based on the rerolled dice. Any new legitimate poker hands formed may be connected together either horizontally or vertically and may have one or more common die with the legitimate poker hand(s) previously made.
  • The participant may then pick-up any on re-rolled dice having a blank face and having no design markings on the upright face. The participant may then re-roll these dice having the blank face for a third time.
  • For example, FIG. 2 may show how a participant aligned the dice 100A-100M after his/her round. As one may see, each legitimate poker hand formed may be connected together either horizontally or vertically and may have one or more common die with another legitimate poker hand(s). The Ace of Spades and King of Spades is interconnected and common to the Royal Flush and the Full House. The Queen of Spades is interconnected and common to the Royal Flush and the Four of a Kind. The Jack of Spades is interconnected and common to the Royal Flush and a Pair of Jacks. The Ten of Spades is interconnected and common to the Royal Flush and a Pair of Tens.
  • The participant may then total the score for the round. The score may be based on the legitimate poker hands formed and aligned. For example:
  • 1. Royal Flush: 4000 Points, may be doubled if formed on the first roll.
  • Bonus: Additional 400 points for each additional die added to the Royal Flush. For example, if the participant rolled dice to obtain a Royal Flush as shown in FIG. 5A.
  • If the participant rolled dice as shown in FIG. 5B, the player would obtain 1200 points (400 for each die that adds to the Royal Flush.
  • 2. Straight Flush: 2000 Points, may be doubled if formed on the first roll.
  • Bonus: Additional 200 points for each additional die added to the Straight Flush.
  • 3. Four of a Kind: 500 Points, may be doubled if formed on the first roll.
  • 4. Full House: 400 Points
  • 5. Flush: 300 Points
  • Bonus: Additional 100 points for each additional die above the five dice added to the Flush
  • 6. Straight: 200 Points
  • Bonus: Additional 50 points for each additional die above the five dice added to the Straight
  • 7. Three of a kind: 150 Points
  • 8. Pair: 50 Points
  • 9. Bonus: 500 Points may be awarded if the participant is able to use and interconnect all 13 dice in a single round as shown in FIG. 2.
  • After the participant has aligned the dice to form as many poker hands as he/she finds, and the participant has rolled the predetermined number of times to remove the dice having no markings, and the participant has totaled his/her score for the round, the participant may roll the fourteenth die 100N. The rolling of fourteenth die 100N may be optional and may be used to multiply the participant's score for the current round. If the participant decides to roll the fourteenth die 100N, the participant's score for that round is multiplied by the number shown on the upright face of the die 100N. Thus, if the face 180 is the upright face, the participant's score remains the same as it may be multiplied by 1. If the face 182 is the upright face, the participant's score may be multiplied by 2. If the face 183 is the upright face, the participant's score may be multiplied by 3. If the face 184 is the upright face, the participant's score may be multiplied by 4. However, if either face 179 or 181 is the upright face, the participant's score is multiplied by 0 and thus is reduced to zero.
  • After the participant has totaled his/her score for the round, the next participant will perform the same above steps as disclosed above. As stated above, the poker dice game may end based on the goal. As sated above, the poker dice game may be played for a predetermined number of rounds, for example 10 rounds. At the end of the ten rounds, the participant with the highest score may be declared the winner. Alternatively, the object of the poker dice game may be to be the first participant to reach a predetermined score, for example 10,000 points. The above are given as examples and should not be seen in a limiting manner.
  • In accordance with one embodiment, the poker dice game may be played like described above. However, in this embodiment, each of the legitimate poker hands formed by the dice may be unconnected. The scoring may be the same as described above. However, in accordance with one embodiment, there may be no bonus given if the participant uses all 13 dice 100A-100M.
  • In accordance with one embodiment, the poker dice game may be played like described above. However, in this embodiment, each of the legitimate poker hands formed by the dice may be connected or unconnected. The scoring may be the same as described above. However, in accordance with one embodiment, there may be no bonus given if the participant uses all 13 dice 100A-100M.
  • The above embodiments have been described as the participants being local and physically rolling the dice 100A-100N. However, the poker dice game may be implemented electronically and hosted on a server. Participants may be physically located together or may play remote from one another. The server may be have a random number generator which may be used when the participants indicate that he/she wishes to roll one or more of the dice 100A-100N.
