Description

    BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to constructing dropped ceilings and, more particularly, to a hanger wire twister tool used to aid in constructing dropped ceilings.
  • A dropped ceiling is a secondary ceiling, hung below the main (structural) ceiling. It may also be referred to as a drop ceiling, T-bar ceiling, false ceiling, suspended ceiling, grid ceiling, drop in ceiling, drop out ceiling, or ceiling tiles and is a staple of modern construction and architecture in both residential and commercial applications. Currently, while constructing a dropped ceiling, tie wires are used to hang the ceiling. Each tie wire must be secured to a ceiling grid by wrapping the wire at least six times. This procedure takes a long time to complete and is tiresome.
  • As can be seen, there is a need for a tool that aids in constructing a dropped ceiling.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • In one aspect of the present invention, a hanger wire tool comprises: an elongated plate comprising a front surface, a rear surface, a first end and a second end opposite the first end, wherein an aperture is formed through the top and bottom surface at the first end; at least one magnet secured to the second end; and a plurality of calibrated lines operable to measure distances, wherein the plurality of calibrated lines are disposed on the front surface at the second end of the elongated plate.
  • In another aspect of the present invention, the method of twisting wire comprises: providing a hanger wire tool comprising: an elongated plate comprising a front surface, a rear surface, a first end and a second end opposite the first end, wherein an aperture is formed through the top and bottom surface at the first end; at least one magnet secured to the second end; and a plurality of calibrated lines operable to measure distances, wherein the plurality of calibrated lines are disposed on the front surface at the second end; hanging a wire from a ceiling grid; inserting the wire into the aperture; and wrapping the hanger wire tool around the wire, and thereby wrapping the wire around itself.
  • These and other features, aspects and advantages of the present invention will become better understood with reference to the following drawings, description and claims.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the present invention shown in use;
  • FIG. 2 is a front perspective view of an embodiment of the present invention;
  • FIG. 3 is a back perspective view of an embodiment of the present invention;
  • FIG. 4 is an exploded view of an embodiment of the present invention;
  • FIG. 5 is a front view of an embodiment of the present invention; and
  • FIG. 6 is a side view of an embodiment of the present invention.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention, since the scope of the invention is best defined by the appended claims.
  • The present invention includes an acoustical hanger wire tool. The present invention is used to quickly wrap wire above ceilings with ease and thereby complying with current code. Currently, the wire is supposed to be wrapped at least six times. The present invention allows users to wrap the wire quickly. Further, the present invention works with laser beam machines to make sure the ceiling grid level to properly support the ceiling tiles.
  • Referring to FIGS. 1 through 6, the present invention includes a hanger wire tool. The hanger wire tool includes an elongated plate 10. The elongated plate 10 includes a front surface, a rear surface, a first end and a second end opposite the first end. An aperture 18 is formed through the top and bottom surface at the first end. At least one magnet 12, 14 is secured to the second end. A plurality of calibrated lines 20 operable to measure distances are disposed on the front surface at the second end of the elongated plate 10.
  • The elongated plate 10 may be made of a rigid material, such as metal, carbon or a strong plastic. The elongated plate 10 may be in the shape of a ruler, having a substantially planar front and rear surfaces. In certain embodiments, a logo 24 may be printed on the front and/or rear surfaces of the elongated plate 10.
  • In certain embodiments, the at least one magnet 12, 14 may include a first magnet 12 and a second magnet 14. The first magnet 12 is secured to the front surface of the elongated plate 10 and the second magnet 14 is secured to the rear surface of the elongated plate 10. For example, the first magnet 12, the second magnet 14 and the elongated plate 10 may include aligning apertures. A screw 16 may run through the aligning apertures, thereby attaching the first and second magnets 12, 14 to the second end of the elongated plate 10.
  • The plurality of calibrated lines 20 may include a first set of calibrated lines 20 disposed on a first side of the elongated plate 10 and a second set of calibrated lines 20 disposed on a second side of the elongated plate 10. The first set of calibrated lines 20 are operable to measure distances in centimeters and the second set of calibrated lines 20 are operable to measure distances in inches. A magnet laser tag 22 may be disposed on the front surface in between the first set of calibrated lines 20 and the second set of calibrated lines 20. The magnet laser tag 22 may be in the form of cross hairs.
  • A method of using the hanger wire tool may include the following. The hanger wire tool may releasably attach to the ceiling grid 28 by the magnets 12, 14. A laser and the plurality of calibrated lines 20 may be used to properly level the ceiling grid 28. A plurality of wires 26 may be hung from the ceiling grid 28. Each of the wires 26 may be inserted into the apertures 18 of the hanger wire tool. The hanger wire tool is then wrapped around the wire 26, thereby wrapping the wire 26 around itself. The above method is repeated for each of the wires 26 hanging from the ceiling grid 28.
  • It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing relates to exemplary embodiments of the invention and that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the following claims.
