- The disclosure and prior art relates to handle devices and more particularly pertains to a new handle device for attaching to a pickup bed thereby assisting with climbing into and out of the pickup bed.
- An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a vehicle that has a bed. A handle unit is coupled to the bed and the handle unit is gripped to assisting a user to climb into the bed.
- There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.
- The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.
- The disclosure will be better understood and objects other than those set forth above will become apparent when consideration is given to the following detailed description thereof. Such description makes reference to the annexed drawings wherein:
-
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a handle unit of a handle system according to an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 2 is a bottom view of a handle unit of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 3 is a front view of a handle unit of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 4 is a cross sectional view taken along line 4-4 ofFIG. 3 of an embodiment of the disclosure. -
FIG. 5 is a perspective in-use view of an embodiment of the disclosure. - With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to
FIGS. 1 through 5 thereof, a new handle device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by thereference numeral 10 will be described. - As best illustrated in
FIGS. 1 through 5 , thehandle system 10 generally comprises avehicle 12 that has abed 14. Thevehicle 12 may be a pickup, aflat bed 14 truck, a box truck or anyvehicle 12 commonly used to transport an object. Thebed 14 has a pair oflateral walls 16 and atailgate 18. Each of thelateral walls 16 has atop edge 20 and thetop edge 20 corresponding to each of thelateral walls 16 has a well 22 extending downwardly therein. The well 22 may be aligned with thetailgate 18 and thetailgate 18 facilitates entering and exiting thebed 14. - A
handle unit 24 is coupled to thebed 14 and thehandle unit 24 may be gripped thereby assisting a user to climb into thebed 14. Thehandle unit 24 comprises agrip 26 that has afirst end 28, asecond end 30 and anouter surface 32 extending therebetween. Theouter surface 32 is continuous such that thegrip 26 has a cylindrical shape to enhance gripping thegrip 26. - The
outer surface 32 has a plurality ofgrooves 34 that each extends around a perimeter of thegrip 26 to enhance gripping thegrip 26. Thegrooves 34 are spaced apart from each other andgrooves 34 are centrally positioned between thefirst end 28 and thesecond end 30. Theouter surface 32 tapers inwardly between thefirst end 28 and thesecond end 30 to define alip 36 extending outwardly from thesecond end 30. Thelip 36 inhibits a hand from sliding off of thegrip 26 when a user is climbing into thebed 14. - A
shaft 38 is coupled to and extends away from thefirst end 28 of thegrip 26. Theshaft 38 has anoutermost surface 40 and theoutermost surface 40 has afirst side 42 and asecond side 44. Thefirst side 42 is spaced from thesecond side 44 such that theshaft 38 has an ovoid cross section taken along a line extending through the first 28 and second 30 ends of thegrip 26. Theshaft 38 is selectively inserted into the well 22 in a selected one of thelateral walls 16 of thebed 14 having thefirst end 28 of thegrip 26 abutting thetop edge 20 of the selected lateral wall. - A
fastener 46 is provided and thefastener 46 is selectively extended through theshaft 38 and engages thebed 14. In this way thehandle unit 24 is removably retained on thebed 14. Thefastener 46 extends through the first 42 and second 44 sides of theshaft 38 and thefastener 46 may comprise a screw or the like. Moreover, thefastener 46 may be threaded to threadably engage theshaft 38. - In use, the
shaft 38 is inserted into the well 22 in a selected one of thelateral walls 16 of thebed 14. Thefastener 46 is extended through theshaft 38 to engage thebed 14. Thegrip 26 is gripped when the user is climbing into thebed 14. In this way thegrip 26 assists with climbing into and out of thebed 14 and thegrip 26 reduces the chances for injury resulting from falling while climbing into and out of thebed 14. Theshaft 38 is removed from the well 22 at any selected time. - With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, system and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.
- Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
