Abstract

A method of styling hair that includes the process of weaving and wrapping an ornamental hair device around and through an individual's hair to generate a stylish wrap or display of the user's hair.

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present disclosure relates to field of hair styling products and more specifically to a method of weaving and wrapping a device into a user's hair to generate and attractive display of the user's hair.

BACKGROUND

This section provides background information related to the present disclosure which is not necessarily prior art.
There are a wide range of popular styles into which a person's hair can be formed. Most of those styles are simply various methods of cutting, styling, or locating hair on an individual's head in a manner that is attractive to the individual. While this method of hair styling is very common, there are instances when an individual wants their hair to have a particularly unique appearance. In those situations the individual can add other objects to the hair style to generate an appearance that is different than just cutting or styling the hair alone.
Of the various objects that can be added to a hair style, the most prevalent application of those objects is the simple placement of the object onto the surface of the hair. For example, barrettes are often used to capture a few strands of hair in a clamping fashion within the barrette. In yet other instances, combs can be inserted into hair after being styled. While each of these applications is a very common method of ornamenting a hair style, other methods are needed to be provided that can further enhance current hair styles.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

This section provides a general summary of the disclosure, and is not a comprehensive disclosure of its full scope or all of its features.
In accordance with the various embodiments of the present invention, this invention relates to a method of installing an ornamental hair device into the hair of an individual. The ornamental wrapping device described herein is installed onto a person's hair by weaving and inserting the ornamental hair device into and through the hair of an individual to result in an aesthetically pleasing appearance.
Further areas of applicability will become apparent from the description provided herein. The description and specific examples in this summary are intended for purposes of illustration only and are not intended to limit the scope of the present disclosure.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF AT LEAST ONE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION

In the following description, numerous specific details are set forth such as examples of specific components, devices, methods, in order to provide a thorough understanding of embodiments of the present disclosure. It will be apparent to a person of ordinary skill in the art that these specific details need not be employed, and should not be construed to limit the scope of the disclosure. In the development of any actual implementation, numerous implementation-specific decisions must be made to achieve the developer's specific goals, such as compliance with system-related and business-related constraints. Such a development effort might be complex and time consuming, but is nevertheless a routine undertaking of design, fabrication, and manufacture for those of ordinary skill.
The Ornamental Hair Device A employs a plastic needle on both ends and allows an individual to create many new and interesting hair styles that are either difficult or impossible to do with existing hair extensions or loose synthetic hair. It is now possible to lace (weave) extensions (either singly, two or more twisted, or multiple extensions used separately) into the hair.
Turning now to the drawings at FIGS. 1-1A, at least one preferred embodiment of a Method for Styling Hair is shown. In certain preferred embodiments of the present invention, an Ornamental Hair Device A as described in FIGS. 1 and 1A disclose that includes a retention pin 1, a central portion 2, a wire retainer 3, and adhesive 4.
In one embodiment, the Ornamental Hair Device A is as shown in FIG. 1. In that embodiment, a retention pin 1 has the dimensions as shown in FIG. 1A and includes a hair retention portion 5, a pin element 6, and a retention opening 7. One purpose of the retention pin 1 is to hold the individual strands of the central portion 2 together and to install the Ornamental Hair Device A into the user's hair by insertion of the retention pin 1 into the user's hair.
In the present embodiment the overall length of the retention pin 1 is about 44 mm in length, however, it will be appreciated that the length of the retention pin any of any length as long as the length selected promotes the ability for insertion of the retention pin into the hair of the user to retain the retention pin during normal use of the Ornamental Hair Device A. Similarly, the other dimensions disclosed in FIG. 1A may also be adjusted to fit the particular application in which the Ornamental Hair Device A is to be used as long as the design of the retention pin 1 allows the central portion 2 to be installed onto or into the retention pin and also provide some type of pin element 6 that can be installed into the hair of the user. It is also understood that the dimensional ratios and proportions as shown in FIG. 1A may adjusted as necessary to fit any specific application. In one preferred embodiment, the pin element 6 has a length of between about 20 mm and about 40 mm. The retention pin 1 may be made of any sufficiently rigid material as long as the material selected will properly bond with the selected adhesive 4, the central portion 2, and the retention pin itself. In certain preferred embodiment, the retention pin 1 is constructed of an injection molded plastic material.
In the present embodiment of the Ornamental Hair Device A, the central portion 2 is made from human hair. It will be appreciated by those of skill in the art, however, that other materials may also be used and remain within the intended scope of the present invention. For example, modern technology can produce synthetic materials that come very close to resembling real human hair. To the extent that such synthetic hair is acceptable to a user, synthetic hair of any type of material may used for the central portion 2 and still remain within the intended scope of the claims of the present invention.
The central portion 2 of the present embodiment invention has an over all length of about 18 inches. It is understood that, depending upon the particular application, the overall length of the hair segment may be of any length as long as the length selected fulfills the needs of the particular application being filled. In most of the preferred embodiments of the present invention, the overall length of the hair segment will be between about 18 inches and about 24 inches in length. When the central portion 2 is made from real human hair, it is preferred that the human hair be selected for best quality while checking for good hair texture as well as good surface quality and strength. When the central portion 2 is made from a synthetic hair, the synthetic hair should also be selected for high quality including checking for proper texture, good surface quality, strength, and similarity of the general appearance of the synthetic hair to real human hair.
When the central portion 2 is made from real human hair, certain preferred embodiments require that the human hair be cleaned and bleached to remove any debris from the human hair and to remove the natural color of the human hair. The hair can then be dyed to any preferred color through the use of any widely available hair dye or coloring ingredient. It will be appreciated that the Ornamental Hair Device A can be made to include hair segments 2 to be dyed in a wide range of colors and tints so that any customer and final user of the Ornamental Hair Device will be able to match the color of the Ornamental Hair Device to the hair color of the user. For example, the Ornamental Hair Device A can be dyed to specific shades of black, brown, blond, or red. It is understood that when the central portion 2 is made from synthetic hair, the hair segment is also colored to match the hair color of the user and can also include specific shades of black, brown, blond, or red.
The Ornamental Hair Device A is generally assembled by placing a sufficient amount of an adhesive 4 into the retention opening 7 of the retention pin 1. In alternative embodiments, the adhesive may also be placed on the ends 2A of the central portion 2. Any non-toxic adhesive may be used as the adhesive 4 as long as the adhesive selected is bondable to the material used for the retention pin 1 and the material used for the central portion 2. In certain embodiments, the adhesive 4 may also be resistant to water.
Before the central portion 2 is inserted into the retention opening 7 of the retention pin 1, two ends 2A of the hair segment are tightly wound and then bound by a retainer wire 3. In the present embodiment, the retainer wire 3 is made from a non-toxic metal wire and has a fine diameter to allow the retainer wire to be wrapped around the ends 2A of the central portion 2 sufficiently to retain the hair strands compactly while at the same time not resulting in the wound wire having a diameter that is bulky, inconsistently shaped, or too large to fit within the hair retention opening 7 of the retention pin 1. In certain embodiments, keeping the retainer wire 3 wound tightly can include wrapping the retainer wire similar into a shape similar to that of a spring where each wound portion of the retainer wire is positioned to be adjacent to and in contact with the portion of the retainer wire that was just wound. This process generally results in a binding of the strands of the central portion 2 by the retainer wire 3 without resulting in the wound retainer wire having an excessively large diameter when placed around the hair segment. It is understood that the diameter of the retainer wire 3 and the flexibility of the retainer wire should be selected to easily wrap the retainer wire around the central portion 2 and such that once wrapped, the retainer wire tends to stay wrapped around the hair segment.
When the components of the Ornamental Hair Device A are assembled, but before the adhesive 4 dries, alternative preferred embodiments require the Ornamental Hair Device to be laid out flat for the glue to harden inside the retention opening of the retention pin 1. Placement of the Ornamental Hair Device A so that it is flat and stretched out as the adhesive dries can also promote reduced amounts of waviness or distortion of the central portion 2.
In yet other embodiments of the ornamental hair device A the central portion 2 is made from a variety of other materials. The central portion 2 can be made of other materials such as ribbon, string, braided cord, or any other material that is flexible and can be woven into the hair as described herein.
In addition to the color of the material used for the central portion 2 as note above, it is understood by those of skill in the art that the color of the material used for the central portion in certain other preferred embodiments is at least one of either an unnatural color such as green, purple, orange, lilac, or a any combination of those colors. In fact, the color of the central portion 2 can be of any color or combination of colors, tints, shapes, or designs and still remain within the intend scope of the embodiments of the present invention.
It is noted that the use of a synthetic hair material for the central portion will significantly reduce of the cost of certain embodiments of the present invention. In view of those costs savings, it is understood that various embodiments can use materials other than natural or synthetic hair. For example, ribbons made of cotton or synthetic cloth may be used in the manufacture of the central portion 2. In fact, any material may be used as long as the material selected is flexible and generates an acceptable fashion use of the ornamental hair device A. It is expected that careful attention to the use of other materials in the central portion 2 will assist in reduced costs that will increase the marketability of various embodiments of the present invention.
In the use of embodiments of the present invention it is also noted that the use of colorful central portions 2 combined with the use of a wide variety of different materials will enhance the attractiveness to lower aged people. For example, parents of young girls who do not want their children to bleach and color their hair may be more readily persuade to allow their children to instead use embodiments of the present invention and be fashionable and stylish with their friends.
In certain embodiments of the present invention, the Method for Styling Hair using the Ornamental Hair Device A can include a number of the following processes and variations there of and still remain within the intended scope of the present invention.
Pony Tail Wrap.
The method for installing the Ornamental Hair Device A into an appearance of colorful pony tail includes the following steps (FIGS. 2-5):
1) The Ornamental Hair Device A installed into a user's hair 10 by a process that first requires the user to generate a pony tail 11 using the hair of the user. This is accomplished when the user gathers the user's hair 10 together at the back of the user's head and then places the gathered hair through the opening of an elastic band 12.
2) One of the retention pins 1 is inserted into the user's hair 10 such that the pin element 6 of the retention pin is generally positioned between the scalp of the user and the elastic band 11 that is holding the user's hair in a gathered manner.
3) The Ornamental Hair Device A is then wound around the user's gathered hair by encircling the elastic band 12 with the central portion 2 of the Ornamental Hair Device until the elastic band is substantially concealed by the hair segment and a small amount of hair segment remains unwound. The Ornamental Hair Device A is wrapped around the elastic band 12 as many times as necessary, depending on the volume of the individual user's pony tail 11. It is understood that the small amount of central portion 2 that is unwound will have a second retention pin 1 attached to the end of the unwound hair segment. Thus, the Ornamental Hair Device A is wrapped around and over the elastic band 12 until almost all of the hair 10 has been wrapped and only a short portion of the central portion 2 and retention pin 1 remains.
5) The remaining retention pin 1 is then tucked into the hair 10 and secured between the elastic band 12 and the scalp of the user. The end result generates a neat, elegant ponytail that looks like the user's own hair.
Corset Braid Style.
The method for installing the Ornamental Hair Device into an appearance suggestive of a corset braid includes the following steps (FIGS. 6 and 7):
1) Divide an individuals user's hair into two equal sections 20;
2) Braid each section 20 using one of either a French braid, Dutch braid, fish tail braid, or a twist braid;
3) Tie the two braids together at the nape of the user's neck 21;
4) Stick in and secure one end pin 22 of the Ornamental Hair Device A near the top of the braid. Depending on the thickness of the hair, it may be necessary to secure the Ornamental Hair Device A with one or more bobby pin.
5) Select at least one Ornamental Hair Device A and then lace the center portion 24 Ornamental Hair Device A into the two inner sides of the braids. The lacing should start at the top of the braid and proceed to the bottom of the braid.
6) In one embodiment, two Ornamental Hair Devices A are used and are laced down the braid in a crisscross pattern similar to a shoelace pattern.
7) When lacing pattern reaches the bottom of the braid, the remaining end pin 23 of the Ornamental Hair Device A are tucked into the braid and secured with bobby pins.
Bun Style.
The method for installing the Ornamental Hair Device A into an appearance suggestive of a bun style includes the following steps (FIG. 8):
1) Style the user's hair into a basic pony tail 30.
2) Twist the pony tail into a bun 31 and secure that shape with bobby pins.
3) Insert the first end pin 32 of the Ornamental Hair Device A into the center of the bun and secure the first end pin with a bobby pin.
4) Repeatedly lace the Ornamental Hair Device A around the perimeter of the bun and through the center opening 33 of the bun.
5) When the Ornamental Hair Device A has been laced around the bun, install the second end pin 34 into the bun by crisscrossing two bobby pins.
Free Fall Style.
The method for installing the Ornamental Hair Device A into an appearance suggestive of a free fall style includes the following steps (FIG. 9):
1) Pick the desired color(s) of the Ornamental Hair Device A to use.
2) Separate a section hair 40 from the user's full head of hair. That separated section will be where the Ornamental Hair Device A is installed.
3) In this embodiment, one of either the first end pin or the second end pin will be removed by cutting the end pin from the central portion of the Ornamental Hair Device A. This will allow the truncated end of the central portion 41 to fall freely down the selected section of hair. In an alternate embodiment of this style, the Ornamental Hair Device A is cut in the middle of the central section thus generating two equal length portions of the Ornamental Hair Device with each portion have a single end pin. In yet another alternate embodiment, just one end pin of the Ornamental Hair Device A is removed as close as possible to one end of the central portion of the Ornamental Hair Device A thus generating a single long free fall portion of the Ornamental Hair Device.
4) After one of either the single or double free fall method of cutting the Ornamental Hair Device A has been completed, the remaining single end pin of the Ornamental Hair Device is laced into the top end of the selected section of hair and one or more bobby pins are installed to retain the Ornamental Hair Device A into the top of the selected hair section after the top end of the remaining central portion is folded.
5) In an alternative embodiment, the end of the central portion 40 of the Ornamental Hair Device A that does not have an end pin can be cut to a desired length after installation into the selected hair section.
6) In yet another alternative embodiment, the free falling central end portion 40 of the Ornamental Hair Device A can be curled using a warm standard hair curling iron to generate a curled free fall.
Colorful Pony Tail.
The method for installing the Ornamental Hair Device A into an appearance of colorful pony tail includes the following steps (FIG. 2):
1) Style the user's hair into a basic pony tail 50 and secure the pony tail with an elastic band.
2) Install a first end pin of the Ornamental Hair Device A under the elastic band.
3) In a first embodiment of this method the Ornamental Hair Device A is looped down and around the hair of the pony tail with the second end pin then fastened beneath the elastic band.
4) In a second embodiment of this method the Ornamental Hair Device A, the first end pin of the Ornamental Hair Device A is installed under the elastic band and then the second end pin is removed from the Ornamental Hair Device A after the user has determined what length is desired for the central portion of the Ornamental Hair Device A, and the central portion is then allowed to fall freely from the pony tail.
5) In a third embodiment of this method, the first end pin of the Ornamental Hair Device A is installed under the elastic band and then the central portion of the Ornamental Hair Device A is decoratively wrapped around the elastic band until the elastic band is covered after which and the second end pin is installed under the elastic band.
The foregoing description of the embodiments of the present invention has been provided for purposes of illustration and description. Additionally, in the preceding description, numerous specific details are set forth such as examples of specific components, devices, methods, in order to provide a thorough understanding of embodiments of the present disclosure. It will be apparent to a person of ordinary skill in the art that these specific details need not be employed, and should not be construed to limit the scope of the disclosure.

Claims

What is claimed is:

1. A method of styling hair using an ornamental hair device comprising the steps of:

manufacturing an ornamental hair device comprising a central portion made from at least one of either human hair, animal hair, or a synthetic material, the ornamental hair device having an overall length of between about 15 inches and about 24 inches and further comprising, a wire retainer for binding a proximal end and a distal end of the hair segment, and two retention pins into which one of either the proximal end or the distal end of the hair segment has been disposed, wherein an adhesive is used to generally maintain the proximal end and the distal end of the hair segment within the retention pins, wherein each retention pin comprises a retention portion, a pin element, and a hair retention opening, wherein one of either the proximal end or the distal end of the hair segment is disposed within the retention opening of each retention pin, wherein each retention pin has an overall length of about 44 mm, wherein the pin element of each retention pin has a length of between about 20 mm and about 40 mm, and wherein each retention pin is constructed of an injection molded plastic material; and

weaving the ornamental hair device to generate a hair style.

2. The method of styling hair using an ornamental hair device in accordance with claim 1 wherein weaving the ornamental hair device generates a pony tail hair style further comprising the steps of:

gathering a user's hair together at a back of the user's head to substantially form a pony tail shape;

inserting the pony tail shape through an elastic band;

allowing the elastic band to hold the pony tail shape within the elastic band to form a pony tail hair style;

inserting a first retention pin into the user's hair such that the pin element of the first retention pin is generally positioned between a user's scalp of the user and the elastic band;

winding the ornamental hair device around the user's hair by encircling the elastic band with the central portion of the ornamental hair device until the elastic band is substantially concealed by the user's hair segment and a portion of the hair segment remains unwound; and

tucking a second retention pin of the ornamental hair device into the user's hair near the elastic band and securing the second retention pin between the elastic band and the user's scalp.

3. The method of styling hair using an ornamental hair device in accordance with claim 1 wherein weaving the ornamental hair device generates a corset braid hair style further comprising the steps of:

dividing a portion of a user's hair into two substantially sections to generate a first braiding portion and a second braiding portion;

braiding the first braiding portion together with the second braiding portion to generate a braid that is in a shape that is at least one of either a French braid, a Dutch braid, a fish tail braid, or a twist braid;

tying an end of each of the first braiding portion and the second braiding portion together near a nape of the user's neck

inserting a first retention pin of the ornamental hair device into the braid near a top portion of the braid;

lacing the center portion of the ornamental hair device A into an inner side of each of the braiding portions such that the lacing process begins near the top portion of the braid and continues until a bottom portion of the braid is reached; and

tucking the second pin element into the braid when the lacing process reaches the bottom portion of the braid.

4. The method of styling hair using an ornamental hair device in accordance with claim 3 wherein weaving the ornamental hair device generates a corset braid hair style by lacing at least a second ornamental hair device into the braid in a arrangement similar to a shoelace pattern.

5. The method of styling hair using an ornamental hair device in accordance with claim 1 wherein weaving the ornamental hair device generates a bun hair style further comprising the steps of:

inserting the pony tail shape through an elastic band;

twisting the pony tail shape into a bun shape and securing the bun shape within the user's hair by installation of at least one bobby pin;

insert the first retention pin into a center of the bun shape;

securing the first retention pin with a bobby pin;

lacing the ornamental hair device repeatedly around a perimeter of the bun shape and through a center opening of the bun shape; and

installing the second end pin into the bun shape by crisscrossing two bobby pins to hold the ornamental hair device in position at the bun shape.

6. The method of styling hair using an ornamental hair device in accordance with claim 1 wherein weaving the ornamental hair device generates a single free fall hair style further comprising the steps of:

picking at least one desired color of the ornamental hair device;

separating a hair section from the user's hair wherein the section of hair will be where the ornamental hair device is to be installed;

removing one of either the first retention pin or the second retention pin by cutting the end of the selected retention pin from the central portion of the ornamental hair device to generate a truncated end of the central portion;

lacing the remaining retention pin into a top end of the hair portion and retaining the ornamental hair device into a top portion of the selected hair portion using at least one bobby pin; and

allowing the truncated end of the central portion to fall freely down the selected section of hair.

7. The method of styling hair using an ornamental hair device in accordance with claim 6 wherein weaving the ornamental hair device generates a single free fall hair style by further comprising the step of additional shortening the truncated end of the ornamental hair device to a new desired length.

8. The method of styling hair using an ornamental hair device in accordance with claim 1 wherein weaving the ornamental hair device generates a multiple free fall hair style further comprising the steps of:

picking at least one desired color of the ornamental hair device;

separating a section hair from the user's hair wherein the section of hair will be where the ornamental hair device is to be installed;

dividing the central section of at least two ornamental hair devices near the middle of a length of the central portion of each ornamental hair device to generate two substantially equal length portions of each of the ornamental hair devices with each substantially equal length portion having a single retention pin and a truncated end;

lacing the remaining retention pin of each of the ornamental hair devices into a top end of the hair portion and retaining each of the ornamental hair devices into a top portion of the selected hair portion using at least one bobby pin; and

allowing the truncated end of each of the substantially equal length portions to fall freely down the selected section of hair.

9. The method of styling hair using an ornamental hair device in accordance with claim 8 wherein weaving the ornamental hair device generates a multiple free fall hair style by further comprising the step of further shortening the truncated end of the ornamental hair device to a new desired length.

10. The method of styling hair using an ornamental hair device in accordance with claim 1 wherein weaving the ornamental hair device generates a first colorful pony tail hair style further comprising the steps of:

inserting the pony tail shape through an elastic band;

inserting a first retention pin into the user's hair such that the pin element of the first retention pin is generally positioned between a user's scalp of the user and the elastic band; and

looping the ornamental hair device down and around the pony tail shape with the second end pin then fastened beneath the elastic band.

11. The method of styling hair using an ornamental hair device in accordance with claim 1 wherein weaving the ornamental hair device generates a second colorful pony tail hair style further comprising the steps of:

inserting the pony tail shape through an elastic band;

removing the second retention pin from the central portion of the ornamental hair device after the user has determined a desired length for the central portion; and

allowing the central portion to fall freely from the pony tail.

12. The method of styling hair using an ornamental hair device in accordance with claim 1 wherein weaving the ornamental hair device generates a third colorful pony tail hair style further comprising the steps of:

inserting the pony tail shape through an elastic band;

wrapping the central portion of the ornamental hair device around the elastic band until the elastic band is at least partially covered; and

installing the second retention pin under the elastic band.
