Abstract
A placement and retrieval apparatus for placing and retrieving a suspension apparatus is described herein. The placement and retrieval apparatus includes a placement portion for engaging the connection apparatus to place the connection apparatus at a desired location on a support structure. The placement and retrieval apparatus also including a retrieval portion for engaging the connection apparatus to remove the connection apparatus from the support structure.
Description
- The present application is a continuation of U.S. patent application having U.S. Ser. No. 15/415,277, filed Jan. 25, 2017, which is a conversion of U.S. Provisional Application having U.S. Ser. No. 62/306,768, filed Mar. 11, 2016, which claims the benefit under 35 U.S.C. 119(e). The disclosure of which is hereby expressly incorporated herein by reference.
- Not applicable.
- The present disclosure relates to an apparatus for efficiently placing and retrieving various objects from a ceiling, or any apparatus disposed above the ground.
- In standard decorative operations wherein decorative items are suspended from ceilings, the decorative items are usually attached to a suspension apparatus. The suspension apparatus can be releasably attached to a ceiling. Current devices used to place the suspension apparatuses and retrieve the suspension apparatuses have various deficiencies.
- Accordingly, there is a need for a device that can place the suspension apparatuses and retrieve the suspension apparatuses more efficiently.
- This disclosure is directed to placement and retrieval apparatus, the apparatus comprising: a placement portion for engaging a connection apparatus to place the connection apparatus at a desired location on a support structure; and a retrieval portion for engaging the connection apparatus to remove the connection apparatus from the support structure.

FIG. 4 is a perspective view of the portion of the placement and retrieval apparatus shown inFIG. 3 in use with the suspension apparatus and constructed in accordance with the present disclosure. -
FIG. 5 a perspective view of the placement and retrieval apparatus shown inFIG. 2 in use with the suspension apparatus and constructed in accordance with the present disclosure. -
FIG. 6 is a perspective view of another embodiment of the placement and retrieval apparatus constructed in accordance with the present disclosure. - The present disclosure, as shown in
FIGS. 1-5 , relates to a placement and retrievalapparatus 10 for placing and retrieving asuspension apparatus 12 on and from asupport structure 14. Asuspension apparatus 12 can be selectively supported by thesupport structure 14 and is used to support adecorative item 16. Thesupport structure 14 can be any structure capable of supporting thesuspension apparatus 12. Examples ofsupport structures 14 include, but are not limited to, ceilings, walls, structures supported by ceilings, walls, and/or floors. Thedecorative item 16 can be a sign, balloon, and the like. Thesuspension apparatus 12 can have an adhesive portion 18 (such as a magnetic portion or a sticky portion) and aconnection portion 20 for selective attachment to thedecorative item 16. Theconnection portion 20 can be any device capable of being attached to theadhesive portion 18 of thesuspension apparatus 12 and selectively attached to thedecorative item 16. In one embodiment, theconnection portion 20 can be a ring or series of rings. - The placement and
retrieval apparatus 10 includes aplacement portion 22, aretrieval portion 24 and anattachment element 26 for connecting the placement and retrievalapparatus 10 to a handle, pole, or someextension device 28. Theplacement portion 22 provides aseat 30 are for supporting theadhesive portion 18 of thesuspension apparatus 12 as the placement andretrieval apparatus 10 is used to set thesuspension apparatus 12 in a desired spot on thesupport structure 14. Theretrieval portion 24 provides a mechanism for engaging theconnection portion 20 of thesuspension apparatus 12 when it is desirable for thesuspension apparatus 12 to be removed from its place on thesupport structure 14. - In one embodiment, the
placement portion 22 includes at least oneextension element 32 that extends away from abase portion 34 of the placement and retrievalapparatus 10. Thebase portion 34 can be theattachment element 26 or some rod or element that extends from theattachment element 26. Theextension element 32 can have anupturned end 36 that is opposite of anend 38 of theextension element 32 closest to thebase portion 34. Theupturned end 36 creates anelbow 40 in theextension element 32. Theelbow 40 can include aslot 42 therein for receiving a portion of theadhesive portion 18 of thesuspension apparatus 12. The engagement between theadhesive portion 18 of thesuspension apparatus 12 and theslot 42 disposed in theelbow 40 cooperate to control thesuspension apparatus 12, and thus thedecorative item 16 as thedecorative item 16 is being raised to a desired position on thesupport structure 14 and allow for easy disengagement with the placement and retrievalapparatus 10 when thesuspension apparatus 12 is placed in the desired position. It should be understood and appreciated that theplacement portion 22 of the placement andretrieval apparatus 10 can have a slot cut anywhere therein to facilitate the placement of thesuspension apparatus 12 in a desired location. - In another embodiment, the
placement portion 22 of the placement andretrieval apparatus 10 includes a plurality ofextension elements 32. It should be understood that the plurality ofextension elements 32 can all include theupturned end 36 and theslot 42 disposed in theelbow 40 created by theupturned end 36. - In one embodiment, the
retrieval portion 24 includes at least onerod element 44 that extends away from thebase portion 34 of the placement and retrievalapparatus 10. In another embodiment, theretrieval portion 24 of the placement andretrieval apparatus 10 includes a plurality ofrod elements 44 to engage theconnection portion 20 of thesuspension apparatus 12 to remove thesuspension apparatus 12 from its placement on thesupport structure 14. Theconnection apparatus 20 of thesuspension apparatus 12 can either be penetrated by one of therod elements 44 of theretrieval portion 24 or it can be engaged by two or more of therod elements 44. Therod elements 44 can extend from thebase portion 34 at any angle desirable or extend straight from thebase portion 34 at no angle. - In yet another embodiment of the present disclosure, the
retrieval portion 24 of the placement andretrieval apparatus 10 includes at least threerod elements 44 that are disposed on the same plane. The twoouter rod elements connection portion 20 of thesuspension apparatus 12 is funneled between the outer tworod elements more rod elements 44. Theconnection portion 20 of thesuspension apparatus 12, when penetrated by therod elements 44 or engaged betweenrod elements 44, can then be pulled from its placement on thesupport structure 14 and reused in further decorating endeavors. - In another embodiment of the present disclosure, shown herein in
FIG. 6 , the placement andretrieval apparatus 10 can include amagnetic portion 50 for engaging thesuspension apparatus 12 during placement of thesuspension apparatus 12 in a desired location. In one embodiment, themagnetic portion 50 can be disposed adjacent to thebase portion 34 and theextension elements 32 of theplacement portion 22 of the placement andretrieval apparatus 10. In yet another embodiment shown inFIG. 6 , theouter rod elements angled portions outer rod elements angled portions angled portions connection portion 22 of thesuspension apparatus 12 toward theother rod elements 44 disposed between theouter rod elements outer rod elements other rod elements 44 of theretrieval portion 24 of the placement andretrieval apparatus 10. - From the above description, it is clear that the present disclosure is well adapted to carry out the objectives and to attain the advantages mentioned herein as well as those inherent in the disclosure. While presently preferred embodiments have been described herein, it will be understood that numerous changes may be made which will readily suggest themselves to those skilled in the art and which are accomplished within the spirit of the disclosure and claims.
Claims (6)
1. An apparatus, the apparatus comprising:
a first rod element extending straight away from a base portion of the apparatus and a second rod element angled away from the base portion to engage a connection portion of a suspension apparatus to facilitate removal of the suspension apparatus from a support structure, the apparatus capable of engaging a suspension apparatus to place the suspension apparatus at a desired location on the support structure.
2. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising an attachment element for attaching the apparatus to a handle or pole
3. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the apparatus further includes a magnetic portion for stabilizing the suspension apparatus during placement of the suspension apparatus.
4. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the first and second rod elements create two outer rod elements and the two outer rod elements have an angled portion.
5. The apparatus of claim 4 wherein the angled portions of the outer rod elements are angled outward to funnel the connective portion of the suspension apparatus toward other rod elements disposed between the outer rod elements.
6. The apparatus of claim 5 wherein the outer rod elements are longer than the other rod elements of the apparatus.
