APPARATUS FOR CLEANING HORSES AND OTHER ANIMALS Filed Deo. 22, 1934 Jvvvenm FRDRICK WALTRS,
Patented Oct. 15, 1935 APPARATUS FOR CLEANING HORSES A ND ANIMALS OTHER Frederick Walters, Parkstone, near Bournemouth, England Application December 22, 1934, Serial No. 758,772
In Great Britain 3 Claims.
This invention relates to apparatus for cleaning horses and other animals.
The object of this invention is to provide improved apparatus for cleaning such animals.
Apparatus made in accordance with this invention comprises a stock and a pad of spongy rubber or other suitable material detachable from the stock, the active surface of which is provided with rubber projections preferably arranged in circular concentric series, and of various hardness, there being one or more holes in the pad and stock leading to an air passage adapted to be connected to an exhaust pump by a flexible pipe or other suitable conduit.
The accompanying drawing illustrates various forms of device made in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of one form of the stock with one form of pad xed to it.
Fig. 2 is an inverted plan showing the pad.
Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation of the device shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is an inverted plan of the stock.
Fig. 5 is an inverted plan of the plate.
Fig. 6 is a side elevation of the pad.
Fig. 7 is a sectional elevation of the pad.
Fig. 8 is a sectional elevation of a modified form of stock with a modified form of pad secured to it, and
Fig. 9 is a sectional elevation of a still further modified form of stock with a further modiiied form of pad secured to it.
In Figs. 1 to '7 of the drawing an aluminium body or stock a of circular or other suitable shape e. g. oval in plan is provided with an air duct b having air outlet c in the side of the stock and air inlet d axially with regard thereto. The stock a is recessed at e on its top-side and at f on its bottom side. The recessed top side thus forms a recessed handle or hand-grip portion. The recess f forms an annular hollow round the duct inlet d. The duct outlet c is adapted to receive the connection of an exhaust pump. Three xing screws g and the lock-nut h are disposed at around the recess j. An annular rubber pad i is provided with staggered rubber projections i formed with a base 7c of such a size as will fit in said recess f. This pad i is suitably xed to an annular steel plate m in which are the key-hole slots n whereby the plate m may be secured in the recess f of the stock by means of screws g and nuts h.
A hand strap o is provided for the stock a.
In use the rubber pad i is attached to the stock a by passing the key-hole slots n over the screws September 23, 1933 (Cl. 11B-84) g and giving the necessary turn, the screws g having been rst of all tightened in position by the lock-nuts h. The connection of an exhaust pump (not shown) is then inserted into the air outlet end c of the air duct, and the pad passed 5 over the body of a horse or other animal, the dust being removed by the operation of the exhaust pump.
In the modied form of apparatus made in accordance with this invention as illustrated in Fig. ,10 8 the stock p is circular or oval in cross-section and is provided with a central hole q which is trumpet-mouthed in shape and which passes through the centre of a hole r in pad s formed of sponge rubber. 'Ihe pad s of cleaning material is adapted to be clamped at t to the. stock by a meal band u which engages an upturned annular ilange extending from a plate u to the bottom face of which the pad s is secured, so that it may be easily removed and renewed when desired. The pad s is secured at the centre by a perforated diaphragm v engaging a flange on pad s surrounding the hole r, the diaphragm being secured by a screw w or other means to the l stock.
With apparatus made in accordance with this invention the dust cannot fly about the stable, thus removing an annoyance which causes much irritation to many horses. so
The modiiication shown in Fig. 9 is generally similar to the form shown in Fig. 1 except that the projections a: on the pad y are provided with passages z therethrough which, as shown, pass through the body of the pad y land the plate m back of the pad and communicate with a space between the latter and the stock p, said space being in free communication with the exhaust passage c. The projections :z: may be of different degrees of hardnessl relative to one another.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent isz- 1. An apparatus for cleaning horses and other animals, comprising a stock provided with a conduit adapted to be connected to an exhaust apparatus and having a central downwardly extend' ing nipple and an outer peripheral downwardly extending rim providing a recess between said nipple and rim, an orificed pad of rubber having ai plurality of integral projections on its outer face and a plate attached to its inner face provided with key-hole slots, said plate located in said recess, and a plurality of members in said recess arranged to enter said slots for detachably locking said pad to the stock.
2. Apparatus for cleaning horses and other animals comprising a stock provided with a conduit adapted to be connected with exhaust apparatus and having a peripheral downwardly extending ange forming a recess, a soft rubber pad provided on its outer face with a plurality of integral projections and having a plate attached toits inner face with spaced` lokingsnlots therein, and a. series of co-operatingA locking members in said space entering said slots, said plate and a portion of said pad being retained im said recess when the parts aregassernbledxandsaid, pad and plate having an opening therethrough-)h3 connected with the exhaust.
3. Apparatus for cleaning horses and other animals comprising a stock having therein a conduit adapted to be connected With exhaust apparatus and having a peripheral, rigid flange forming a recess in said stock, a. pad of rubber having a plurality of integral projections on its outer face and a plate attached to its inner face, oriees in said-fk pwections andi` pla-te and locking means between* said; plate and stock fordetachably connecting said pad to the stock within said recess, the plate being spaced from the stock and the o riiicesz ini sai@ projections communicating wthzsaid, Space.
