TQE E AB l N. J., assignor to Application November 10, 1934, Serial No. 752,512
4 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in toilet articles for ladies, and it has for its purpose to provide a device especially pertaining to the coloring and polishing of finger nails, facilitating, by means of an elaborate display as to comparison of colors, the selection of a tint or hue most becoming to the party seeking or desiring such beautifying acquisition.
Thus this invention pertains to a finger hood lo: device, one or more of which may in an adequate manner be used for such tint or color display.
As the construction of my invention in the related forms shown herein, is comparatively simple, the cost of manufacturing should be proporl5. tionately low.
With the above and other objects in view, this invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, and in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of my de- 25 vice;
Figure 2 is a similar view of a device forming part of my invention at large, and facilitating the display in an eifective and co-operative manner of the features of my device, as shown in Fig- 30 ure 1.
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view of my device, as shown in Figure 2 Figure 4 is a detail View of one of the fingers shown in Figure 2;
35 Figure 5 is a side elevational view of my device shown in Figure 2, slightly modified.
Figure 6 is a top plan view of the platform, in part, as shown in Figure 5, illustrating the manner of attaching the bottles to said platform.
40 Figure '7 shows the finger hood in the process of making the latter from a blank form; while Figure 8 is a similar view, as Figure '7, of a blank form, but without the part, which makes the finger nail, attached thereto; and
45 Figure 9 illustrates the blank form of a nail to be attached to the blank, as shown in Figure 8, during the manufacture of my finger hood device.
Referring more particularly to the drawings,
50 the essential features of my device is illustrated in Figure l, which shows a finger hood or sleeve member made of any suitable non-inflammable material. This finger hood has for its purpose to serve as a display medium for the purpose of enabling ladies to choose the appropriate or desired tint or color for their nails. With this object in view the said device is constructed in a manner suitable for attachment to a bottle, or other auxiliary display member, for instance, an
imitation finger, as shown especially in Figure 5, 5
and indicated by the numerals H and i2, respectively. The said device designated by the numeral It], may be made from a blank material, cut, as shown. in Figures '7 and 8, respectively, according to whether the nail is, as shown in 10 said. Figures '7 and9, is to form an integral part of the device, or is to be separately attached to the main body of said device by a special fastening process.
In making the said device from blanks, as shown, into a finished article, as illustrated in Figure I, the said device is formed with lower outwardly bent flaps, M, which are rounded and. suitably adapted to slide over the end of the finger of a lady without any danger of cutting or scraping. the skin of the finger.
At the same time the said flaps by means of a somewhat annular curvature or bend 15 formed thereon, will suitably engage the neck of a bottle by means of: a stopper or cork I6 mounted upon the latter, as shown especially at H in Figure 5, said flaps l4 engaging the bottle neck and stopper just below the. latter.
The said device is further at its top made with slightly outwardly bentfianges ll, which serve as. a means in manipulating the device, as the cross piece l8, whichv may adequately be seen in the Figures 7 and 8, inconnection with the supporting'front side pieces !9 of the nail I; serve to give a somewhat springy effect to the device, as the sides 20, 29 of the latter in their relative movements towards or away from each other, may be said to have their fulcrum at said cross pieces.
While it is obvious that the device in its shape 4,0 is rounded or formed to closely fit the finger of a. lady, the nail may or may not be made in one piece with said article. In this connection it may also be appropriate to state, that while the rest of the article may be made of a suitable transparent or non-transparent material, the nail itself with its adjoining side pieces or lateral parts I9 is always made of a transparent material, as the nail or nails, if more are to be employed for the purpose of display, may then in turn be suitably colored, as for instance by a dipping process to form suggestions as to the color to be chosen by a lady.
In thus making up the device as shown in Figure 1, from the blank in Figure '7, it will be noted that all that is necessary, after the said blank has been properly shaped to fit a finger, will be to fasten the lateral projection IS on to the nail l3, or to an extension, which may be formed upon the other side of the said nail.
In case the blank shown in Figure 8 is used,
the nail properly shaped is then by means of its lateral projections I 9, I 9 integrally secured to said blank after the latter has been given the desired form.
The device thus provided will, both at its front where a comparatively great open space 22 has been provided, and at the side of the nail, as the side pieces l9 of the latter are rather narrow and cut at a sharp angle to said nail, in an excellent manner expose the skin of the finger for the sake of obtaining a relative matching of the color of the nail to the latter.
While, as hereinbefore stated, by device may be applied or afiixed to a bottle, as a manner of display, a certain apparatus as shown in Figure 2, may adequately be used as a further means for an eifective color display in this connection.
The said apparatus consists of a platform 24, which is turnable on a base 25, as the lower surface of said platform moves upon an annular slightly raised portion, as shown at 26, in Figure 3; a rod 2?, terminating at its upper end in a manipulating knob 28, secures the platform 24 to the base 25 by means of a screw 29 arranged in the bottom of the base, and which screw has sufficient clearance to turn with said rod 21.
Upon the platform are integrally mounted a number of fingers I2, which have the front surface of their upper ends formed like finger nails 3| and adapted for the purpose of display to receive the cooperating device shown in Figure 1.
A modification of my device shown in Figure 2,
has been illustrated in the Figures and 6, in
which modification the platform 24' has been made with recesses, as shown at 32 in Figure 6; said recesses are of a shape like the bottom of a bottle, and are adapted to receive a number of such bottles ll, placed between the fingers l2 upon the said platform, as shown in Figure 5, the said bottles being secured in position by means of springy members 33 shown in Figure 6.
It is obvious that changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the several parts, as shown, within the scope of the appended claims, Without departing from the spirit of the invention, and I do not therefore wish to limit myself to the construction and arrangement shown and described herein.
abi s What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
l. A sleeve-like device for embracing the tip of the finger of a person, and consisting of a substantially colorless, annular portion adapted to 5 extending bends at their upper and lower ends.
2. In a device, as described, a sleeve-member bent substantially to the shape of a finger, and made with cut-out front and rear portions therein, said sleeve-member being formed with out- .wardly flaring portions at its lower end, and
with an annular depression in close proximity to the bottom of said flaring portions, wherebyto secure the sleeve-member to an object, an imitation, colored finger nail arranged upon said sleeve-member at the upper end thereof and across the cut-out front portion, said finger nail having lateralcolorless projections for integrally securing said nail to the sleeve-member.
3. In a device, as described, a sleeve-member bent substantially to the shape of a finger and being made with cut-out front and rear portions therein, said sleeve-member being formed with outwardly flaring portions at its lower end, and with an annular depression in close proximity to the bottom of said flaring portions, whereby to secure the sleeve-member to an object, an imitation, colored finger nail integrally secured to said sleeve-member and mounted upon a bridge across 35 the cut-out'front portion in the latter at a right angle to said bridge, the latter being colorless and of a narrow width to permit a clear view of the skin adjoining said nail.
4. A sleeve member for engaging the tip of the 40 finger of a person, and being made of a flexible, colorless material, said sleeve member consisting of an annular portion adapted to encircle the finger, an artificial, colored nail integrally secured to said annular portion, lateral projections outwardly bent and extending upwardly from said annular portion, and downwardly depending lat erally positioned flanges adapted to engage the sides of a finger; said flanges having their ends bent into outwardly flaring portions, the nail be- 5 ing mounted upon the said annular portion at an equal distance between the downwardly depending flanges.
