Abstract

A game play device provides simplified movements and piece interaction in a capture-style board game. The device includes a game board defining a playing surface. Straight lines defining a plurality of isosceles triangles defining a playing field. Each of a plurality of playing pieces is shaped to correspond to and be alignable with to cover at least one isosceles triangle when placed on the playing field. The playing pieces including at least one each of four distinctly shaped playing pieces.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE DISCLOSURE Field of the Disclosure
  • The disclosure relates to game play devices and more particularly pertains to a new game play device for providing simplified movements piece interaction in a capture-style board game.
  • SUMMARY OF THE DISCLOSURE
  • An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a game board defining a playing surface.
  • There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.
  • The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • The disclosure will be better understood and objects other than those set forth above will become apparent when consideration is given to the following detailed description thereof. Such description makes reference to the annexed drawings wherein:
  • FIG. 1 is a top front side perspective view of a game play device according to an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • FIG. 2 is a top view of an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
  • With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 and 2 thereof, a new game play device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.
  • As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2, the game play device 10 generally comprises a game board 12 defining a playing surface 14. Each of a plurality of straight lines 16 is positioned on the playing surface 14. The straight lines 16 define a plurality of isosceles triangles 18 arranged into an array defining a playing field 20. The playing field 20 is square and has a plurality of rows 22 and a plurality of columns 24. The straight lines 16 may define exactly one hundred twenty eight isosceles triangles 18.
  • Each of a plurality of playing pieces 26 is shaped to align with and cover at least one isosceles triangle 16 when placed on the playing field 20. The plurality of playing pieces 26 includes at least one first shape playing piece 28 having a first distinct shape 30. The first distinct shape 30 covers a single isosceles triangle 16. The plurality of playing pieces 26 includes at least one second shape playing piece 32 having a second distinct shape 34. The second distinct shape 34 covers an adjacently positioned pair of the isosceles triangles 18 forming a triangle 36. The plurality of playing pieces 26 includes at least one third shape playing piece 38 having a third distinct shape 40. The third distinct shape 40 covers an adjacently positioned pair of the isosceles triangles 18 forming a square 42. The plurality of playing pieces 26 also includes at least one fourth shape playing piece 44 having a fourth distinct shape 46. The fourth distinct shape 46 covers an adjacently positioned three of the isosceles triangles 18 forming a tetragon 48. The playing pieces 26 comprising a pair of piece sets 50. Each piece set 50 has an equivalent number and shapes of the playing pieces 26. Each of the piece sets 50 is a distinct color. Each piece set 50 may comprise exactly eight of the first shape playing pieces 28, exactly one second shape playing piece 32, exactly four of the third shape playing pieces 38, and exactly two of the fourth shape playing pieces 44.
  • In use, players are positioned on opposite sides of the playing field and use a respective one of the piece sets 50. Each piece set 50 is arranged as shown in FIG. 1 in front of the player. Turns are taken by each player to move one of the playing pieces 26 within their own piece set 50. For each turn, a selectable one of the playing pieces 26 may be moved along one of the straight lines 16 corresponding to a side 54 of the playing piece 26 prior to being moved. The selected playing piece 26 may be moved any position along the one of the straight lines 16 such that the selected playing piece 26 again covers at least one of the isosceles triangles 18. The selected playing piece 26 must be moved only in a straight line and may not be moved if blocked by another playing piece 26. Playing pieces 26 are captured and removed from the playing field 20 when at least two complete sides 54 of the playing piece 26 are adjacently positioned to sides 54 of playing pieces 26 from on opposing piece set 50. The game is won when all but one playing piece 26 of a piece set 50 is removed from the playing field 20. Points may be assigned to each shape of playing piece 26 and points totaled for all remaining playing pieces 26 of the winner of the game to establish a score.
  • With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
