  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • 1. Field of the Invention
  • The present invention generally relates to an apparatus for securing a video/audio recording device to a hunting device. More particularly, the invention relates to a mount apparatus for securing cameras, smartphones, and/or the like on a firearm.
  • 2. Description of Related Art Including Information Disclosed Under 37 CFR 1.97 and 37 CFR 1.98.
  • Hunting is a popular recreational pastime in the United States and many other countries throughout the world. It has become increasingly common in recent times to record or photograph the hunt through the use of cameras and video cameras. As a result, mounting cameras and other electronic devices to a firearm in a manner that does not impede the hunt has become desired by those in the field of hunting. Particularly, the mount must not interfere with the ability to view the target, thereby allowing for accurate firing of the firearm. Obtaining a record of the hunt allows the hunter to later review his or her shots from the “eye” of the camera.
  • Additionally, with the advent of internet-enabled cameras, users can instantaneously e-mail, text, or “post” pictures and videos. The devices also display images and recordings before, during, and after the taking of the photograph or recording. However, to be able to capture the hunt with these devices, a stand or additional person is needed, prohibiting the ability to view the hunt from the “eye” or scope of the camera. Thus, the need for such a mount to accommodate these devices has become all the more desired.
  • Various prior mounting apparatuses that are attachable to a hunting rifle or other weapon to record images viewed through the scope are available, such as U.S. Pat. No. 6,539,661 to Richard W. Hope, U.S. Pat. No. 7,614,805 to Joseph Showalter, U.S. Pat. No. 6,192,614 to Daniel Cliburn, U.S. Pat. No. 6,070,355 to Day, Frederick A, U.S. Pat. No. 6,000,163 to Gordon, Terry, U.S. Pat. No. 5,287,644 to Bolduc Bruce L, U.S. Pat. No. 5,020,262 to Pena Louis T, U.S. Pat. No. 5,887,375 to Watson, Jerry Wade, U.S. Pat. No. 8,793,917 to Robert Wayne Russell, U.S. Pat. No. 8,819,983 to Jeff Tate, U.S. Pat. Appl. No. 20100071247 to Larry Holmberg, 20100018103 to Larry Holmberg, 20090255162 to Larry Holmberg.
  • One problem that arises with prior products is that these existing devices are rigid and are attached in a fixed position with limited adjustability relative to the weapon. Even the devices that are adjustable are only minimally adjustable, and are only adjusted at a specific joint, usually with some form of locking mechanism. Typically, each joint is only adjustable along one axis. Therefore, the hunter is limited to which adjustments may be made, and the adjustments usually take more than one step to accomplish. These existing forms of adjustment prevent the hunter from quickly and easily repositioning his video recording device. Moreover, the existing forms of rigid mounting devices have multiple parts, and add significant weight and bulk to hunting bows or guns. Additionally, such adjustments are further complicated in inclement weather and/or when hunters are wearing gloves. Furthermore, the adjustments make noise.
  • Accordingly, what is needed is a solution to address the various problems associated with prior devices used to record hunting activities by accommodating smartphones, cameras, and the like over the firearm.
