Description
- This application claims the benefit of priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62/388,208, filed on Jan. 20, 2016.

- The field of the present invention relates to travel luggage, and, more specifically, to a hanging clothing transport for organizing and storing clothing and other personal items for travel.
- People often find it desirable or necessary to pack multiple bulky personal items when traveling and desire to have them neatly arranged, separated and protected from each other. Examples of these items may include, but are not limited to shoes, outerwear, multiple sweaters, jeans, and purses. This can be difficult when there are limitations with regard to the size and quantity of compartments in this category of luggage.
- Sometimes, our travel destinations are equipped with large horizontal closet rods, making it challenging to hang a travel bag.
- The amount of items a bag in this category can carry is further limited by the rigid hardware, and/or unyielding construction of the bag.
- The present inventor recognized the need for a non-rigid duffle style bag, equipped exclusively of 5 large compartments that are arranged in a linear fashion for hanging and exposing all of its contents, an extra large suspension hook, and a belt that is not limited by hardware.
- To meet the purposes, and to solve these deficiencies, the bag structure of the invention (also referred to, herein, as a “bag, duffle bag, or duffle style bag”) is made of a pliable textile and has 5 oversized zippered compartments, an extra large S-type hanging hook, and a belt that loops onto itself.
- The accompanying drawings, which are incorporated herein and form part of the specification, illustrate embodiments and, together with the description, further serve to explain the principals of the embodiments and to enable a person skilled in the pertinent art to make and use the embodiments.

FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the front of the closed bag. -
FIG. 2 is a perspective view of the back of the closed bag -
FIG. 3 is an elevation view of the interior of the opened bag. -
FIG. 4 is an elevation view of the exterior of the opened bag. -
FIG. 5 is a perspective view with the first and fifth compartments folded towards the middle. -
FIG. 6 is a perspective view of the second and fourth compartments folded towards the middle. -
FIG. 7 is a perspective view of the belt after it passes through the belt loops. -
FIG. 8 is a perspective view of the top of the closed bag. -
FIG. 9 is a perspective view of one end of the closed bag. -
FIG. 10 is an elevation view of the opened bag when filled. -
FIG. 11 is an elevation view of the profile of the filled bag. - The broken lines in the drawings represent stitching.
- In the disclosed invention, while the embodiments are described herein with reference to illustrative examples, it should be understood that the embodiments are not limited thereto.
- The exterior of the bag,
FIG. 4 , may be constructed from a number of materials e.g. quilted fabric, soft leather, and padded nylon. The interior of the bag,FIG. 3 , is comprised of five compartments; one extralarge center compartment 18 and four large, equally distributed 16, 17, 19, 20. All five compartment facings 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 are on the interior of the bag. They are constructed of clear plastic sheets 9 andouter compartments zippers 7 along their top edges. -
FIG. 1 illustrates the front of the closed bag, which demonstrates its cylindrical duffle shape when filled.FIG. 2 shows the back of the closed bag when filled, also showing its cylindrical duffle shape.FIG. 3 shows the five interior plastic covered compartments, each with theirown zippers 7. Each zipper pull has asmall ribbon 8 tied through it for added grip. - The body of the present invention is stitched together as represented by broken lines in
FIG. 4 . - The dimensions of the bag are significant to its purpose, measuring 26″×60″ when completely opened and is rectangular in shape. The length of the bag, when hanging on a closet rod of average height, uses nearly all of vertical space.
-
FIG. 3 shows the left 13 and right 14 margins which measure 3″ wide. The left 13 and right 14 margins each contain an identical ribbon and two grommets located at the level of the second and fifth zipper. Each ribbon passes through the interior of the bag lengthwise and exits through thegrommets 6. -
FIG. 3 shows that immediately adjacent to each of thegrommets 6 are acorresponding toggle 5 andsimple knot 21 which serve to keep theribbon 4 in place. - Contained within the
top margin 15 of the opened bag is arod 3 which extends slightly short of the length of thezipper 7 as seen inFIG. 3 . Therod 3 serves to keep thetop edges 15 from folding over and to maintain the rectangular shape of the open bag. Therod 3 may be constructed of, but is not limited to, for example, wood, stiff plastic, or carbon fiber.FIG. 3 shows a semi-rigid strip ofmaterial 2 onto which any S-type hook 1 can be attached. The length and semi-rigidity of theextension 2 allow the user to hang the open bag in higher to reach places e.g. a standard size door. -
FIG. 4 illustrates the outside of the opened bag showing the placement and stitching of thehandles 12,belt 10, andbelt loops 11. The belt measures 3″×50″ and is sewn onto outside of the bag as shown inFIG. 4 . Thehandles 12 are one continuous loop that extends approximately the length of the bag with the top and bottom portions loose for carrying. - The two
belt loops 11 measure approximately 1″×3″ and are approximately 1″ apart and are sewn onto the outside of the bag as shown inFIG. 4 . Thebelt 10 and thehandles 12 both function independent of each other. They both also significantly support the closed bag when carrying. This is evident when holding the bag in its closed form, as inFIG. 2 . -
FIG. 3 shows an enlarged view of thecustom hook 1 measuring 2.25″×3.25″. It is a removable S-typetriangle base hook 1. - To begin the process of closing the bag, simply fold compartments one 16 and five 20 inward as shown in
FIG. 5 . - Next, fold the remaining two
17, 19 in the same manner. This will result in a triangular shaped bag when empty, as shown incompartments FIG. 6 . When the bag is full, it begins to take on a cylindrical shape. - In order to fasten the
belt 10 take the loose end and pass it across the top of the bag and under the twobelt loops 11 as shown inFIG. 7 , then pass the loose end back through thetop loop 11 as shown inFIG. 8 . - To partially conceal the ends of the duffle bag, take hold of a
toggle 5 with one hand and take hold of theribbon 4 in another hand. Then, gently squeeze thetoggle 5 toward the bag while pulling theribbon 4 away from the bag. Repeat this step with the adjacent ribbon and toggle, and then tie the two ends ofribbon 4 as one would tie their shoe laces. Replicate this on the other side of the bag. This will also serve to round the edges of the bag to create a cylindrical shape and is ready to be carried, as shown inFIG. 9 . - To open the bag, reverse the process.
- The bag can then be filled with many bulky items as shown in
FIG. 10 . - When the bag is full, it remains slender as seen in
FIG. 11 . - It will be obvious to those having skill in the art that many changes may be made to the details of the above described embodiments without departing from the underlying principles of the invention.
