Abstract

A hard disk drive protection grip pad which provides a physical and active method of inhibiting portable or desktop disk drive from free falls or dropping the drive. This active method prevents and protects the disk drive from damage of physical impact on free falls or dropping of drive, thus preventing damage to internal components in the disk drive, which in most cases lead to unrecoverable loss of data storage.

  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to the effectiveness of protecting portable or desktop computer hard disk drives and any other portable electronic devices from free falls such as dropping hard disk drives will in most cases cause substantial damage to the disk drive heads and other internal disk drive components. Present methods rely on parking and locking the disk drive based on sensors.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention provides a physical and active method of protection, preventing free falls or dropping of the external portable or desktop hard disk drive, which causes physical impact damages on the mechanical disk drive and its component, which then causes loss of disk drive data.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • The components of the drawings are not necessarily drawn to scale, the emphasis is on illustrating the portable hard drive with the flexible mounting grip pad mounted on the hard drive.
  • FIG. 1 A perspective underside view of a portable computer hard drive 1, having a flexible mounting grip pad 2, fitted and attached to the underside portion of the disk drive as in accordance with the present invention.
  • FIG. 2 A perspective view of a portable computer hard drive grip pad shown in active method 1, having two flexible mounting grip pads 2, fitted and attached to the hard drive's upper topside portions and extended along the hard disk drive sides and further extended and mounted on back side surface of laptop monitor display screen 3, to secure object as in accordance with the present invention.

Claims (8)

What is claimed is:
1. A portable protection grip pad comprising: a thin flexible adhesive mounting grip pad having a reusable and non-residue adhesive on the bottom underside of the grip pad ready to mount in a variety of locations, such as, but not limited to, the bottom, sides and topsides or combination providing a variety of grip options, such as, but not limited to an active method for any device, such as, but not limited to, a portable computer hard disk drive providing a slip-resistant surface preventing it from slipping.
2. The grip pad of claim 1 wherein said an outer rubber gripping surface providing additional and enhanced hand grip comfort of any portable electronic device, particularly a portable hard disk drive.
3. The grip pad of claim 1 wherein said grip pad cuts easily to any size providing a firm and secure fit on any device.
4. The grip pad of claim 1 wherein said prevents damage of display glass in portable devices, such as, but not limited to smartphones, iphones, and any other portable electronic device that can free fall or drop causing the display glass to crack or break.
5. The grip pad of claim 1 wherein said flexible mounting pad may be composed of an outer layer of rubber texture providing superior gripping for handling and or anti-slip protection of drive on most table top surfaces.
6. The grip pad of claim 1 wherein said flexible mounting pad may be composed of an inner layer of foam providing reduced impact and disk drive vibration.
7. The grip pad of claim 1 wherein said flexible mounting pad may be composed of an inner layer of unique breathable memory foam providing more air around the disk drive, keeping the drive cooler and prolonging the life of the drive.
8. The active method of the grip pad comprising: a thin flexible adhesive mounting grip pad having a reusable and non-residue adhesive on the bottom under side of the grip pad ready to be mounted and attached to one or more of the hard drive's upper top side portions and extended along the sides of the disk drive and further extended and mounted on any surface or angle such as, but not limited to, the backside surface of a computer laptop display screen or any other surface to prevent any movement, free fall or dropping. For traveling or repositioning, the mounting grip pads are removed from mounted surface and is remounted onto the underside of the portable drive ready to repeat the active method at any location.
