Abstract

A closet hanger for handbags is comprised of a single solid horizontal rod, having two upper hooks which may be hung from a closet rod in a substantially parallel configuration. The horizontal rod provides a plurality of lower hooks, from which handbags or other bulky articles may be hung. The upper hooks are permanently affixed to the horizontal rod by piercing the solid horizontal rod and are configured perpendicular to the horizontal rod.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The invention relates generally to storage containers and devices, and in particular to a closet hanger for handbags. Ladies often accumulate a variety of bulky handbags, and may find it difficult to find storage space for them when they are not in use. Many handbags are expensive, and throwing them on the closet floor is not a desirable option. Ladies would also appreciate an open storage system from which they may easily select a handbag for the day or evening. A closet hanger for handbags, which suspends several handbags below the closet rod, would resolve this problem.
Similar hanging systems are not suitable for the present application. They generally provide horizontal rods which are constructed of multiple pieces so that the rod can be telescoped out. This increases the cost of manufacturing and makes the rod less stable. Similarly, some hanging systems have removable hooks. Again, this decreases the stability of the device which is not ideal for bulkier and heavier items such as hand bags.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

Accordingly, the invention is directed to a closet hanger for handbags. The device comprises a single solid horizontal rod. The single solid horizontal rod having no additional pieces or parts provides a sturdy and solid structure upon which to hang items. The device further has two upper hooks which may be hung from a closet rod in a substantially parallel configuration. The horizontal rod provides a plurality of lower hooks, from which handbags or other bulky articles may be hung.

The foregoing general description and the following detailed description are exemplary and explanatory and are intended to provide further explanation of the invention.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Referring now to the invention in more detail, the invention is directed to a closet hanger 10 for handbags. The device comprises a single solid horizontal rod 12, having two upper hooks 11 which are arranged to be perpendicular to the central axis 30 of the rod from a top view. The upper hooks are permanently attached and stationary in that they do not pivot or turn. The upper hooks 11 are affixed to the horizontal rod by piercing the horizontal rod. The closet hanger 10 may be hung from a closet rod in a substantially parallel configuration. The single solid horizontal rod 12 provides a plurality of lower hooks 13, from which handbags or other bulky articles may be hung.
The first exemplary embodiment provides a single solid horizontal rod 12, preferably eighteen to twenty-four inches in length. The single solid horizontal rod is not made up of multiple parts and is comprised of only a solid rod. The rod 12 is not extendable. Two non-removable upper hooks 11 are located near the ends 31 of the horizontal rod 12. A plurality of lower hooks 13, preferably five lower hooks 13, extend downward from the horizontal rod 12 and are spaced equally along its length. More or fewer lower hooks 13 are contemplated. The ends of the device are covered by flexible caps 14, which protect clothing and other items hanging in the closet.
In some embodiments, the upper hooks 11 may be removed (as per FIG. 2). In such embodiments, the rod 12 may be made flexible or fitted with an internal tension system so as to be supported frictionally between the closet walls. Alternatively, the rod 12 may be mounted to the wall using conventional closet rod mounting techniques.
To use the first exemplary embodiment, the user hangs the device from the closet rod, using the upper hooks 11. The user then hangs handbags or similar bulky items on the lower hooks 13.
The upper hooks 11 and the lower hooks 13 are preferably manufactured from a rigid, durable material, such as steel or aluminum alloy. The horizontal rod 12 is preferably manufactured from a rigid, durable material, such as resin, wood, steel, or aluminum alloy. The caps 14 are preferably manufactured from a flexible, durable material, such as rubber or silicone. Components, component sizes, and materials listed above are preferable, but artisans will recognize that alternate components and materials could be selected without altering the scope of the invention.
While the foregoing written description of the invention enables one of ordinary skill to make and use what is presently considered to be the best mode thereof, those of ordinary skill in the art will understand and appreciate the existence of variations, combinations, and equivalents of the specific embodiment, method, and examples herein. The invention should, therefore, not be limited by the above described embodiment, method, and examples, but by all embodiments and methods within the scope and spirit of the invention.

Claims

I claim:

1. A closet hanger for handbags, comprising:

(a) a single solid horizontal rod having two ends;

(b) a plurality of permanently attached and stationary upper hooks being affixed near said ends of said horizontal rod;

(c) said plurality of upper hooks being angled perpendicular to a central axis of the horizontal rod from a top view;

(d) a plurality of lower hooks;

(e) flexible caps;

(f) said flexible caps covering said two ends of said horizontal rod;

(g) said plurality of upper hooks being configured to hang from a closet rod such that the horizontal rod is parallel to the closet rod.

2. The closet hanger for handbags of claim 1, wherein said plurality of upper hooks is equal to two in number.

3. The closet hanger for handbags of claim 1, wherein said plurality of upper hooks are affixed to said horizontal rod by piercing the horizontal rod.

4. The closet hanger for handbags of claim 1, wherein said plurality of upper hooks are stationary and incapable of rotation or pivoting.

5. The closet hanger for handbags of claim 2, wherein said plurality of upper hooks are affixed to said horizontal rod by piercing the horizontal rod.

6. The closet hanger for handbags of claim 2, wherein said plurality of upper hooks are stationary and incapable of rotation or pivoting.

7. The closet hanger for handbags of claim 1, wherein said plurality of lower hooks are equal to five in number.

8. The closet hanger for handbags of claim 1, wherein said plurality of lower hooks are affixed to said horizontal rod by piercing the horizontal rod.

9. The closet hanger for handbags of claim 1, wherein said plurality of lower hooks are stationary and incapable of rotation or pivoting.

10. The closet hanger for handbags of claim 7, wherein said plurality of lower hooks are affixed to said horizontal rod by piercing the horizontal rod.

11. The closet hanger for handbags of claim 7, wherein said plurality of lower hooks are stationary and incapable of rotation or pivoting.

12. The closet hanger for handbags of claim 1, wherein said plurality of lower hooks are equally spaced across the horizontal rod.

13. The closet hanger for handbags of claim 7, wherein said plurality of lower hooks are equally spaced across the horizontal rod.
