FIG. 6 is a front perspective view of an embodiment of the disclosure. - With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to
FIGS. 1 through 6 thereof, a new safety device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by thereference numeral 10 will be described. - As best illustrated in
FIGS. 1 through 6 , thesafety harness assembly 10 generally comprises agarment 12 that may be worn by adriver 14 of avehicle 16. Thegarment 12 has a pair ofarm portions 18 and abody portion 20 and thebody portion 20 has afront side 22, aback side 24, andneck 21 and awaist 23. Thefront side 22 has afirst cut 19 therein extending between theneck 21 and thewaist 23 and thefront side 22 has a plurality ofsecond cuts 26 extending therethrough to define a plurality ofpockets 28 within thebody portion 20. Thebody portion 20 may envelop the driver'storso 30 and each of thearm portions 18 may insertably receive one of the driver'sarms 32. Thegarment 12 may comprise a jacket or the like. Thevehicle 16 may be a motorcycle or the like. - A
gripping apparatus 34 is coupled to thegarment 12, allowing thegripping apparatus 34 to be gripped by apassenger 36 of thevehicle 16. Thegripping apparatus 34 comprises aharness 38 positioned within thegarment 12. Theharness 38 includes a plurality oflongitudinal straps 40 and a plurality oflateral straps 42. Thelongitudinal straps 40 are spaced apart from each other and extend upwardly along thefront side 22 and downwardly along theback side 24. Thelateral straps 42 extend around thebody portion 20 such that thelateral straps 42 are coupled to and intersect thelongitudinal straps 40. - Each of the
lateral straps 42 has abreak 37 therein to define afirst end 39 and asecond end 41 of each of thelateral straps 42. Thefirst end 39 and thesecond end 41 of each of thelateral straps 42 are positioned adjacent to thefirst cut 19 in thefront side 22. Afirst closure 43 is coupled to thefront side 22 and is coextensive with thefirst cut 19 and thefirst closure 43 selectively closes thefirst cut 19. Thefirst closure 43 may be a zipper or the like. - A plurality of
first fasteners 45 and a plurality ofsecond fasteners 47 are provided. Each of thefirst fasteners 45 is coupled to thefirst end 39 of one of thelateral straps 42 and each of thesecond fasteners 47 is coupled to thesecond end 41 of one of thelateral straps 42. Each of thefirst fasteners 45 is complementary with an associated one of thesecond fasteners 47 to facilitate thefirst ends 39 to be joined with an associated one of thesecond ends 41. Each of the first 45 and second 47 fasteners may comprise a buckle or the like. Each of the first 45 and second 47 fasteners is positioned behind thefirst closure 43 when thefirst cut 19 is closed. Moreover, each of the first 45 and second 47 fasteners may be coupled to thelateral straps 42 through the use of reinforced stitching or the like. - Each of the
longitudinal straps 40 includes a plurality ofhandles 48 and each of thehandles 48 is aligned with one of thepockets 28 such that each of thehandles 48 is accessed through thepockets 28. Each of thehandles 48 may be an integral part of thelongitudinal straps 40 to increase a load each of thehandles 48 may absorb. Thepockets 28 may insertably receivehands 50 of thepassenger 36 of thevehicle 16. Thehandles 48 may be gripped by thepassenger 36 of thevehicle 16 such that thepassenger 36 of thevehicle 16 is secured on thevehicle 16. A plurality ofsecond closures 52 is coupled to thebody portion 20. Each of thesecond closures 52 is positioned on one of thesecond cuts 26 to selectively open and close thepockets 28. Each of thesecond closures 52 may comprise a zipper or the like. Each of thehandles 48 is extendable outwardly from thepockets 28 when thepockets 28 are opened and each of thehandles 48 is contained within thepockets 28 when thepockets 28 are closed. - In use, the
driver 14 wears thegarment 12 and couples the first 45 and second 47 fasteners together. Thedriver 14 closes thefirst cut 19 with thefirst closure 43. Thedriver 14 and thepassenger 36 each mount thevehicle 16. Each of thepockets 28 is opened and each of thehandles 48 are extended outwardly from thepockets 28 and thepassenger 36 grips selected ones of thehandles 48. Thehandles 48 provide thepassenger 36 with security and comfort. The first 45 and second 47 couplers prevent thefirst closure 43 from being exposed to a force created by thepassenger 36 pulling on thehandles 48. The orientation of the passenger's arms 53 andbody 54 with respect to thedriver 14 allow for a more balanced distribution of weight on thevehicle 16 while thevehicle 16 is being driven, thereby increasing the safety of thedriver 14 and thepassenger 36. - With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.
- Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
