Description

BACKGROUND OF THE DISCLOSURE Field of the Disclosure
  • The disclosure relates to safety devices and more particularly pertains to a new safety device for providing hand holds for a passenger on a motorcycle.
  • SUMMARY OF THE DISCLOSURE
  • An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a garment that may be worn by a driver of a vehicle. A gripping apparatus is coupled to the garment to be gripped by a passenger of the vehicle.
  • There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.
  • The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • The disclosure will be better understood and objects other than those set forth above will become apparent when consideration is given to the following detailed description thereof. Such description makes reference to the annexed drawings wherein:
  • FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a safety harness assembly according to an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • FIG. 2 is a back view of an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • FIG. 3 is a right side view of an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • FIG. 4 is a front cutaway view of an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • FIG. 5 is an in-use view of an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • FIG. 6 is a front perspective view of an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
  • With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 6 thereof, a new safety device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.
  • As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 6, the safety harness assembly 10 generally comprises a garment 12 that may be worn by a driver 14 of a vehicle 16. The garment 12 has a pair of arm portions 18 and a body portion 20 and the body portion 20 has a front side 22, a back side 24, and neck 21 and a waist 23. The front side 22 has a first cut 19 therein extending between the neck 21 and the waist 23 and the front side 22 has a plurality of second cuts 26 extending therethrough to define a plurality of pockets 28 within the body portion 20. The body portion 20 may envelop the driver's torso 30 and each of the arm portions 18 may insertably receive one of the driver's arms 32. The garment 12 may comprise a jacket or the like. The vehicle 16 may be a motorcycle or the like.
  • A gripping apparatus 34 is coupled to the garment 12, allowing the gripping apparatus 34 to be gripped by a passenger 36 of the vehicle 16. The gripping apparatus 34 comprises a harness 38 positioned within the garment 12. The harness 38 includes a plurality of longitudinal straps 40 and a plurality of lateral straps 42. The longitudinal straps 40 are spaced apart from each other and extend upwardly along the front side 22 and downwardly along the back side 24. The lateral straps 42 extend around the body portion 20 such that the lateral straps 42 are coupled to and intersect the longitudinal straps 40.
  • Each of the lateral straps 42 has a break 37 therein to define a first end 39 and a second end 41 of each of the lateral straps 42. The first end 39 and the second end 41 of each of the lateral straps 42 are positioned adjacent to the first cut 19 in the front side 22. A first closure 43 is coupled to the front side 22 and is coextensive with the first cut 19 and the first closure 43 selectively closes the first cut 19. The first closure 43 may be a zipper or the like.
  • A plurality of first fasteners 45 and a plurality of second fasteners 47 are provided. Each of the first fasteners 45 is coupled to the first end 39 of one of the lateral straps 42 and each of the second fasteners 47 is coupled to the second end 41 of one of the lateral straps 42. Each of the first fasteners 45 is complementary with an associated one of the second fasteners 47 to facilitate the first ends 39 to be joined with an associated one of the second ends 41. Each of the first 45 and second 47 fasteners may comprise a buckle or the like. Each of the first 45 and second 47 fasteners is positioned behind the first closure 43 when the first cut 19 is closed. Moreover, each of the first 45 and second 47 fasteners may be coupled to the lateral straps 42 through the use of reinforced stitching or the like.
  • Each of the longitudinal straps 40 includes a plurality of handles 48 and each of the handles 48 is aligned with one of the pockets 28 such that each of the handles 48 is accessed through the pockets 28. Each of the handles 48 may be an integral part of the longitudinal straps 40 to increase a load each of the handles 48 may absorb. The pockets 28 may insertably receive hands 50 of the passenger 36 of the vehicle 16. The handles 48 may be gripped by the passenger 36 of the vehicle 16 such that the passenger 36 of the vehicle 16 is secured on the vehicle 16. A plurality of second closures 52 is coupled to the body portion 20. Each of the second closures 52 is positioned on one of the second cuts 26 to selectively open and close the pockets 28. Each of the second closures 52 may comprise a zipper or the like. Each of the handles 48 is extendable outwardly from the pockets 28 when the pockets 28 are opened and each of the handles 48 is contained within the pockets 28 when the pockets 28 are closed.
  • In use, the driver 14 wears the garment 12 and couples the first 45 and second 47 fasteners together. The driver 14 closes the first cut 19 with the first closure 43. The driver 14 and the passenger 36 each mount the vehicle 16. Each of the pockets 28 is opened and each of the handles 48 are extended outwardly from the pockets 28 and the passenger 36 grips selected ones of the handles 48. The handles 48 provide the passenger 36 with security and comfort. The first 45 and second 47 couplers prevent the first closure 43 from being exposed to a force created by the passenger 36 pulling on the handles 48. The orientation of the passenger's arms 53 and body 54 with respect to the driver 14 allow for a more balanced distribution of weight on the vehicle 16 while the vehicle 16 is being driven, thereby increasing the safety of the driver 14 and the passenger 36.
  • With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
