The midriff (4) and the front plate (5) are with evenly spaced intervals recessed so that protruding sections (6) with intermediate recesses (7) are formed in the mounting fixture's longitudinal length, said protruding sections (6) consisting of the remaining sections of the midriff (4) and the front plate (5), and that each respective recess (7) is intended to, after the construction panel's insertion, form a space for joint compound for joining and sealing of the panels.
Description
- The present invention concerns a mounting fixture and a method for attachment of construction panels (boards, sheets) with the mounting fixture in accordance with the claims.
- Current interior wall solutions include the attachment of panels (boards, sheets) on studs spaced at a c/c distance of 450/600 mm. These panels usually have a width of 900/1200 mm and a length of approximately 2500 mm. Attachment normally includes one fiberboard panel plus a surface panel of standard drywall (gypsum board, plasterboard). In all two panels that are screwed onto studs with approximately 47 screws per board, in total more than 90 screws. This method of attachment is time consuming and demanding work. These panels (boards, sheets) are always mounted on an underlying frame of studs that also have inherent problems, such as when the panels are attached to the same stud there is a limited space for the required screwing on both panels. This is especially difficult to accomplish on metal studs.
- Another problem that arises is panel unevenness which is different heights between panels depending on panels varying somewhat in thickness. The underlying studs may also cause unevenness, for example studs that are somewhat askew or twisted. Unevenness of panels usually result in extra work during surface preparation with more joint compounding and finishing in order to achieve an acceptable surface before painting or other finishing may be performed.
- Existing types of similar solutions, as for example SE802190-9 mainly concern gypsum board and are designed for these and also for the necessary application of several layers.
- On the market today is found a new type of construction panel with new and improved characteristics than those that have been used until recently. Several of these have been approved by SP/Sitac and have characteristics that are harder and stiffer and provide better resiliency and strength, strength for screws as well as being more environmentally friendly without emissions. These panels are very suitable for single attachment, with less need for screws, compared with current two panel systems that require many screws.
- The present invention concerns a mounting fixture that together with a hard heavy panel (board) allows attachment of panels without underlying support directly behind the joint (seam) between panels, thus allowing joining between studs in a wall construction. The mounting fixture is applied to the panel's edge and joined with the next panel and provides an efficient method of attachment. Thereafter the panel is screwed with a maximum of nine screws of which three screws in each stud in the ceiling and floor and three screws in the stud that now supports the panel in the middle.
- After this attachment is complete, the final fitting together of the panels occurs when the painter, using appropriate environmentally friendly joint compound, fixes the panels and thereafter finishes and completes surface treatment (joint strength already tested by SP).
- This very efficient and cost saving design is made possible by a combination of the mounting fixture and the new hard panel.
-
FIG. 1A shows a cross-sectional view of the mounting fixture. -
FIG. 1B shows the mounting fixture from above. -
FIG. 1C shows a side view of the mounting fixture. -
FIG. 2A shows an application after attachment. -
FIG. 2B shows an application during/after joint compounding. - The present invention concerns the mounting and fixing of hard construction panels (not gypsum board, drywall) as a single panel in interior wall construction, for example a heavy hard panel (board) of magnesium oxide board (MgO board) or another for the purpose suitable panel (board, sheet). The present invention includes a mounting device, a fixture that solves the said technical problems concerning the joining of panels (boards, sheets) as part of interior wall construction. The present invention concerns preferably the attachment of hard heavy construction panels as single panels (boards, sheets) to wall studs in wall constructions that are intended as the finished surface for painting, wallpapering etc.
- With reference to the figures,
FIGS. 1A to 1C show amounting fixture 1 for construction panels (boards, sheets) 2 which in the exemplifying embodiment includes an H-shaped profile. The H-shaped profile includes abottom plate 3, amidriff 4 and afront plate 5. Thebottom plate 3 and thefront plate 5 are parallel or approximately (essentially) parallel. - The
midriff 4 and afront plate 5 are evenly spaced intervals recessed so that the mounting fixture in its longitudinal length forms severalprotruding sections 6 with intermediate recesses (spaces) 7. Theprotruding sections 6 are formed by the remaining parts of themidriff 4 and thefront plate 5. - The intermediate recesses (spaces) 7 in the
midriff 4 and thefront plate 5 provide space for joint compound for mutual fixation of the panels (boards, sheets) 2. - With reference to
FIG. 2A is shown how themounting fixture 1 is attached to a first panel's 2 edge and joined with the next panel's 2 edge allowing for a very efficient method of mounting. The construction panels are inserted into the space between thebottom plate 3 and the remaining parts of thefront plate 4. The construction panels are attached towall studs 8 of wood or metal. Thereafter the panel is screwed with an appropriate number of screws. One advantage of the present invention is that fewer screws are required than with earlier know methods. For example eight to twelve screws are used per panel. It is further conceivable that a maximum total of nine screws be used, three screws in each stud in the floor and ceiling and three screws on thestud 8 that supports the panel (board, sheet) in the middle. - With reference to
FIG. 2B is shown how the panels (board, sheets) are held in place between the bottom plate and the front plate and that the front plate is mudded over (application of joint compound). The front plate is mudded and concealed in the panels recessed bevel for joint compound. Mudding secures and seals the mounting fixture in relation to the wall. A special joint compound is preferably used during mudding to seal the joint between the panels. Furthermore, color adjusted joint compound is used before painting, wallpapering etc. - The herein described mounting fixture differs from other similar solutions because of its stronger bottom plate and separated top part and no holes in the fixture, and also because it is completely adapted to the new type of hard panels and only intended for mounting and joining of panels (board, sheets) between underlying studs. The present invention requires specific characteristics and by its form in no way encroaches on similar solutions intended for other types of construction panels (board, sheets) intended for mounting on studs.
- For mounting this new type of panel (board, sheet), the characteristics of the mounting fixture are different and adaption is therefore important and simplified during mounting work.
- The mounting fixture is adapted to hard heavy panels (boards, sheets) providing fire, acoustic and other advantages.
- The mounting fixture allows for more efficient construction during the mounting of interior wall panels (boards, sheets).
- The mounting fixture replaces a double panel system with multiple screws with a single panel system with only a limited amount of screws.
- The mounting fixture is not dependent on the support of an underlying stud for the joining of panels (boards, sheets).
- The mounting fixture eliminates problems with different panel thickness (so called tandning).
- The mounting fixture absorbs different panel tolerances in width that arise in panel materials.
- Generally, the mounting fixture allows for stud c/c of 600 mm instead of current 450 mm which also saves on the number of studs in the construction.
- Generally, panels will be 600 mm in width but the technology does not hinder using panels (board, sheets) with other widths.
- Work is carried out with panels of 600 mm width but the technology does not hinder using panels (board, sheets) with other widths.
- Work carried out with panels of 600 mm width is advantageous for construction workers due to easier handling.
- The mounting fixture allows for full fixation of the panels when the painter prepares the panels for surface treatment (painting wallpaper, etc.) which in turn greatly facilitates and allows for quicker mounting by the carpenter.
- The mounting fixture does not need separate fastening, fixation (joining) occurs with the special joining compound that the painter uses.
- The mounting fixture is not dependent on certain panel widths or underlying studs for mounting.
- The mounting fixture is not dependent on the placement of studs because the joint (seam) does not have to be placed on a stud.
- The mounting fixture affects the working environment positively with a minimal use of screws. Mounting is fast with less noise and monotonous strain on the body of workers.
- The mounting fixture allows for a secure attachment to the stud, because the screws which are intended for attachment may utilize the entire thickness of the panel (board, sheet) when the screw does not need to be screwed in the joint compound.
