Description

    CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION
  • This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Application No. 62/083,579 filed on Nov. 24, 2014. The above identified patent application is herein incorporated by reference in its entirety to provide continuity of disclosure.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Field of the Invention
  • The present invention relates to bedroom accessories. More specifically, the present invention pertains to an improved bedside organizer that can be removably secured to a single side of a bed that allows a user to store one or more personal items therein, such as medications, books, magazines, remote controls, glasses, and various other items.
  • Sometimes, a bedroom, especially a child's bedroom will be messy and in disarray. Toys, clothes, books, and electronic devices are scattered throughout the room, and a parent or guardian constantly needs to remind the child to clean and organize their room. However, even though a child can constantly tidy up their room, their room sometimes just does not offer enough storage space and their room still seems relatively messy even when organized.
  • This can be especially true near and around a bed. Usually, a bedside table only includes a small platform on which to place items. These can include eyeglasses, notepads, books, pens and other items. Therefore, the bedside table easily becomes cluttered with numerous items with more items, such as remote controls, laptops, cellphones, and other electronic devices still needing to be placed thereon. Thus, there exists a need for a bedside organizer that allows a user to place a few items therein to unclutter the bedside table.
  • The present invention provides a bedside organizer that includes a flexible panel having a front portion and a rear portion, wherein the rear portion is configured to be compressed between a mattress and a box spring to support the front portion. The front portion is configured to be freely positioned against the box spring, wherein the front portion hangs downwardly and perpendicularly in relation to the rear portion. The front portion includes a plurality of pockets configured to receive items therein. The rear portion includes a fastener configured to removably attach to the mattress and/or box spring, which allows the rear portion to fully support the front portion and the items supported within the plurality of pockets.
  • Devices are known in the prior art that relate to bedside storage devices. These devices include U.S. Published Patent Application Publication No. 2002/0018601, U.S. Published Patent Application No. 2013/0305451, U.S. Published Patent Application Publication No. 2009/0050764, U.S. Published Patent Application Publication No. 2011/0231994, and U.S. Pat. No. 8,171,586. Such devices generally provide beside organizers that straddle the bed so that an organizer hangs downwardly on each side of the bed. However, it is not always desired to have a pair of bedside organizers, as many people sleep alone and only require a single organizer. Further, if a bed is pressed against a wall, having a second bedside organizer is not useful. Thus, a single side bedside organizer is desired.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • In view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the known types of bedside organizers now present in the prior art, the present invention provides a new and improved bedside organizers wherein the same can be utilized for providing a single side beside organizer that can be used to store a plurality of items by inserting them into a plurality of pockets thereon.
  • It is therefore an object of the invention to provide a new and improved bedside organizer that has all of the advantages of the prior art and none of the disadvantages.
  • Another object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved bedside organizer that includes a front portion and a rear portion, wherein the rear portion is configured to be compressed between a box spring and a mattress, wherein the weight of the mattress holds the bedside organizer in a fixed position.
  • Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved bedside organizer, wherein the front portion is configured to freely hang against a side of the box spring and bed.
  • Still yet another object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved bedside organizer, wherein the front portion includes a plurality of pockets, wherein each is configured to receive and support one or more items therein.
  • A further object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved bedside organizer, wherein the plurality of pockets are affixed side by side in a parallel manner.
  • Still yet another object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved bedside organizer wherein the device may be readily fabricated from materials that permit relative economy and are commensurate with durability.
  • Other objects, features, and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTIONS OF THE DRAWINGS
  • Although the characteristic features of this invention will be particularly pointed out in the claims, the invention itself and manner in which it may be made and used may be better understood after a review of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein the numeral annotations are provided throughout.
  • FIG. 1 shows a front perspective view of the bedside organizer.
  • FIG. 2 shows an overhead view of the bedside organizer.

The bed fastener includes hook and loop fastening material adhesively securable to the mattress 32 or bed spring 31, wherein the rear portion 22 also includes hook and loop fastening material for removable securement to the bed fastener.
  • In some embodiments, the rear portion 22 further includes a weighted member 29 thereon. The weighted member 29 is adapted to further help secure the rear portion 22 in position under the mattress 32. The weighted member 29 is permanently affixed to the rear panel 22. The weighted member 29 may include any dense material that provides the rear portion 22 with additional weight relative to the front portion 21.
  • The front portion 21 is configured to be freely positioned against the box spring 31, wherein the front portion 21 is configured to hang downwardly and perpendicularly in relation to the rear portion 22. The front portion 21 includes a plurality of pockets 28 that are affixed to the front portion 21 in a side by side configuration. The pockets 28 include an outer panel affixed to the front portion 21 at the lower end 23 and sides of the outer panel, leaving the upper end 24 of the pocket 28 open so that items can be inserted into the space between the outer panel and the front portion 21. In the illustrated embodiment, the pockets 28 comprise a rectangular configuration. Preferably, the pockets 28 are provided in a range of sizes so that some pockets 28 are suited for storage of small items such as medication and eyeglasses, whereas other pockets 28 are suited for storing larger items such as books and tablets.
  • It is therefore submitted that the instant invention has been shown and described in what is considered to be the most practical and preferred embodiments.
