Abstract
A guiding apparatus for sharpening woodworking cutters contains: a holder and an accommodation assembly. The holder clamps a cutter and tilts relative to a grinding plane to form a grinding angle between the holder and the grinding plane. The holder includes a rolling sleeve and an outlet defined between two front ends of two sides thereof to extend a cutting tip of the cutter out of the outlet at an extending distance. The accommodation assembly is joined with the holder and includes a positioning plate. The positioning plate has a stopping extension formed on a rear end thereof to stop the cutting tip of the cutter and has a distance indicator arranged on a top surface thereof adjacent to the stopping extension and with respect to the grinding angle, such that the distance indicator indicates the extending distance at which the cutting tip extends out of the outlet.
Description
- The present invention relates to a guiding apparatus for sharpening woodworking cutters which safety adjusts an extending distance at which a cutting tip of a cutter extends out of an outlet.
- As shown in
FIG. 8 , a conventional guiding apparatus for sharpening woodworking cutters contains a clamping seat 1 obliquely clamping acutting tip 2A of acutter 2 so as to maintain a grinding angle G between thecutter 2 and aface 3A of awhetstone 3 as sharpening thecutter 2, wherein the clamping seat 1 has arolling sleeve 1A fixed on a bottom thereof and has anoutlet 1B for extending thecutting tip 2A of thecutter 2 outwardly at an extending distance S. In operation, thecutting tip 2A of thecutter 2 is extended out of theoutlet 1B at the extending distance S with respect to the grinding angle G, and thecutter 2 is clamped by the clamping seat 1 to be sharpened. However, the extending distance S is measured by a measuring tool, so a user is injured by thecutter 2 easily. In addition, the conventional guiding apparatus cannot be stored after use. - The present invention has arisen to mitigate and/or obviate the afore-described disadvantages.
- The primary object of the present invention is to provide a guiding apparatus for sharpening woodworking cutters which safety adjusts an extending distance at which a cutting tip of a cutter extends out of an outlet.
- Another object of the present invention is to provide a guiding apparatus for sharpening woodworking cutters which hangs a holder and an accommodation assembly.
- To obtain the above objective, a guiding apparatus for sharpening woodworking cutters provided by the present invention contains: a holder and an accommodation assembly.
- The holder clamps a cutter and tilts relative to a grinding plane to form a grinding angle between the holder and the grinding plane. The holder includes a rolling sleeve and an outlet defined between two front ends of two sides thereof to extend a cutting tip of the cutter out of the outlet at an extending distance.
- The accommodation assembly is joined with the holder and includes a positioning plate. The positioning plate has a stopping extension formed on a rear end thereof to stop the cutting tip of the cutter and has a distance indicator arranged on a top surface thereof adjacent to the stopping extension and with respect to the grinding angle, such that the distance indicator indicates the extending distance at which the cutting tip of the cutter extends out of the outlet.

FIGS. 1 to 7 , a guiding apparatus for sharpening woodworking cutters according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention comprises: aholder 10 and anaccommodation assembly 20. - The
holder 10, as illustrated inFIGS. 1 and 5 , clamps acutter 30 tilts relative to a grinding plane to form a grinding angle G between theholder 10 and the grinding plane, and theholder 10 includes afirst clamper 11, asecond clamper 12 with respect to thefirst clamper 11, and a threadedguide rod 13 rotatably connected with and between thefirst clamper 11 and the threadedguide rod 13, wherein the threadedguide rod 13 has a rotatinghead 131. Theholder 10 further includes twoslidable rods 14 which are in connection with thefirst clamper 11 and thesecond clamper 12, and each of thefirst clamper 11 and thesecond clamper 12 has two throughorifices 141 defined thereon to insert through the twoslidable rods 14, such that thefirst clamper 11 and thesecond clamper 12 move close to each other to clamp thecutter 30 or they move away from each other to unclamp thecutter 30 by rotating the threadedguide rod 13. Thefirst clamper 11 has afirst clamping portion 111 and asecond clamping portion 111A which are arranged on two side surfaces of thefirst clamper 11, and thesecond clamper 12 has athird clamping portion 121 and afourth clamping portion 121A which are arranged on two side surfaces of thesecond clamper 12, such that thecutter 30 is clamped by thefirst clamping portion 111, thesecond clamping portion 111A, thethird clamping portion 121, and thefourth clamping portion 121A. The threadedguide rod 13 has arolling sleeve 15 rotatably coupled on a middle section thereof, and anoutlet 10A is defined between two front ends of thefirst clamper 11 and thesecond clamper 12 to extend acutting tip 30A of thecutter 30 out of theoutlet 10A at an extending distance S. Theholder 10 further includes twofixing orifices 16 defined on one side thereof. - The
accommodation assembly 20, as shown inFIGS. 1 to 4 , is joined with theholder 10 and includes apositioning plate 21, and thepositioning plate 21 has astopping extension 22 formed on a rear end thereof to stop thecutting tip 30A of thecutter 30, adistance indicator 23 arranged on a top surface thereof adjacent to thestopping extension 22 and with respect to the grinding angle G, such that thedistance indicator 23 indicates the extending distance S at which thecutting tip 30A of thecutter 30 extends out of theoutlet 10A. Thepositioning plate 21 also has aretaining portion 24 extending upwardly from one side thereof adjacent to thestopping extension 22 to stop theholder 10, and thepositioning plate 21 further has ahanging aperture 25 formed on a front end thereof. Thepositioning plate 21 further has plural locatingholes 231 arranged on aperipheral side 21A thereof and has aslot 21B defined on a bottom surface thereof adjacent to theperipheral side 21A which slidably retains with an affixingmount 26. The affixingmount 26 has agroove 261 defined therein to slidably retain with theperipheral side 21A of thepositioning plate 21, a connectingaperture 262 defined thereon opposite to thegroove 261, acoupling bolt 264 fitted in the connectingaperture 262 and pushed by aresilient element 263, and afixing nut 265 screwed with thecoupling bolt 264, such that theresilient element 263 pushes afront segment 264A of thecoupling bolt 264 to fit with one of the plural locatingholes 231 of theperipheral side 21A. Thecoupling bolt 264 also has a pullingring 264B disposed on a rear segment thereof to pull thecoupling bolt 264 backward. The affixingmount 26 further has a L-shaped rib 266 extending upwardly from a bottom end thereof to retain with theslot 21B and has twojoining stems 267 for fitting with the twofixing orifices 16 of theholder 10, hence the affixingmount 26 moves along theperipheral side 21A to adjust the extending distance S. - Referring to
FIGS. 1 to 3 , in assembly, thegroove 261 of the affixingmount 26 slidably retains with theperipheral side 21A of thepositioning plate 21, and the L-shaped rib 266 retains with theslot 21B of thepositioning plate 21, thus moving the affixingmount 26 along theperipheral side 21A of thepositioning plate 21. With reference toFIGS. 1 and 4 , the two joiningstems 267 of the affixingmount 26 fit with the twofixing orifices 16 of theholder 10 so that the affixingmount 26 drives theholder 10 to move on thepositioning plate 21. - Before moving the affixing
mount 26, thepulling ring 264B of thecoupling bolt 264 is pulled backward so that thefront segment 264A removes from the one of the plural locatingholes 231 of theperipheral side 21A and presses theresilient element 263, as shown inFIG. 4 . Thereby, theholder 10 moves on thepositioning plate 21 to adjust the extending distance S, and thedistance indicator 23 indicates the extending distance S. After positioning theholder 10, thecoupling bolt 264 is released as shown inFIG. 4 so that theresilient element 263 pushes thecoupling bolt 264 to move into the one of the plural locatingholes 231, thus positioning theholder 10 on thepositioning plate 21 at a desired position of thedistance indicator 23. - The
cutter 30 clamped by theholder 10 is parallel to thepositioning plate 21, and thecutting tip 30A extends out of theoutlet 10A. As illustrated inFIGS. 5 and 6 , thefirst clamper 11 and thesecond clamper 12 of theholder 10 are released, and thecutting tip 30A of thecutter 30 is moved to abut against thestopping extension 22, such that the extending distance S is identical to the grinding angle G, and the rotatinghead 131 of the threadedguide rod 13 is rotated tightly to clamp thecutter 30 by using thefirst clamper 11 and thesecond clamper 12, thus adjusting the extending distance S safety. - Thereafter, the
holder 10 is removed from theaffixing mount 26, as illustrated inFIGS. 1 and 4 , wherein the two joiningstems 267 of theaffixing mount 26 are removed from the twofixing orifices 16 of theholder 10 so that theaffixing mount 26 removes from theholder 10, and thecutter 30 is sharpened by the whetstone 3 (as shown inFIG. 8 ). - After sharpening the
cutter 30, the rotatinghead 131 of the threadedguide rod 13 is rotated loosely so that thefirst clamper 11 and thesecond clamper 12 unclamp thecutter 30. Thereafter, as shown inFIGS. 1 to 4 , the two joiningstems 267 of the affixingmount 26 fit with the twofixing orifices 16 of theholder 10 so that the affixingmount 26 moves close to thestopping extension 22 along theperipheral side 21A of thepositioning plate 21, and theretaining portion 24 stops theholder 10, thecoupling bolt 264 of the affixingmount 26 is fitted in one of the other of the plural locatingholes 231, thus connecting theholder 10 with theaccommodation assembly 20, as illustrated inFIG. 7 . Preferably, theholder 10 and theaccommodation assembly 20 are hung by ways of the hangingaperture 25, after connecting together. - While the preferred embodiments of the invention have been set forth for the purpose of disclosure, modifications of the disclosed embodiments of the invention as well as other embodiments thereof may occur to those skilled in the art. Accordingly, the appended claims are intended to cover all embodiments which do not depart from the spirit and scope of the invention.
Claims (7)
1. A guiding apparatus for sharpening woodworking cutters comprising:
a holder clamping a cutter and tilting relative to a grinding plane to form a grinding angle between the holder and the grinding plane, and the holder including a rolling sleeve and an outlet defined between two front ends of two sides thereof to extend a cutting tip of the cutter out of the outlet at an extending distance;
an accommodation assembly joined with the holder and including a positioning plate, and the positioning plate having a stopping extension formed on a rear end thereof to stop the cutting tip of the cutter, a distance indicator arranged on a top surface thereof adjacent to the stopping extension and with respect to the grinding angle, such that the distance indicator indicates the extending distance at which the cutting tip of the cutter extends out of the outlet.
2. The guiding apparatus for sharpening woodworking cutters as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the positioning plate has a peripheral side for slidably retaining with an affixing mount, and the affixing mount moves along the peripheral side of the positioning plate to adjust the extending distance.
3. The guiding apparatus for sharpening woodworking cutters as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the positioning plate also has a retaining portion extending upwardly from one side thereof adjacent to the stopping extension to stop the holder.
4. The guiding apparatus for sharpening woodworking cutters as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the positioning plate further has a hanging aperture formed on a front end thereof.

The guiding apparatus for sharpening woodworking cutters as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the positioning plate further has plural locating holes arranged on the peripheral side thereof, and the affixing mount has a groove defined therein to slidably retain with the peripheral side of the positioning plate and has a coupling bolt fitted in a connecting aperture and pushed by a resilient element.

The guiding apparatus for sharpening woodworking cutters as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the positioning plate further has a slot defined on a bottom surface thereof adjacent to the peripheral side, and the affixing mount further has a L-shaped rib extending upwardly from a bottom end thereof to retain with the slot.

The guiding apparatus for sharpening woodworking cutters as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the holder further includes a first clamper, a second clamper with respect to the first clamper, and a threaded guide rod rotatably connected with and between the first clamper and the threaded guide rod, such that the first clamper and the second clamper move close to each other or move away from each other; and the first clamper has a first clamping portion and a second clamping portion which are arranged on two side surfaces of the first clamper, the second clamper has a third clamping portion and a fourth clamping portion which are arranged on two side surfaces of the second clamper, such that the cutter is clamped by the first clamping portion, the second clamping portion, the third clamping portion, and the fourth clamping portion.
