Abstract

A mounting bracket for a linear bar grille comprising a clip that comprises a bent section and a base having a through hole.

Description

    FIELD OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to a mounting bracket for a linear bar grille.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • U.S. Pat. No. 6,776,706 relates to a modular fan system that includes a fan, a plenum member adapted to be mounted to the fan and adapted to be mounted to an enclosure, a gasket adapted to be mounted between the plenum member and the enclosure, a filter adapted to be mounted to the plenum member, and a grille adapted to be mounted to the plenum member.
  • US patent publication 2008/0224006 relates to a flush-mounting system including a bracket with an opening that is coupled to a support extending substantially in a plane to allow the mounting bracket to move along the support. An inner bracket is disposed with the mounting bracket's opening and can be slid in and out of the opening to adjust accordingly. The flush mounting system also has a second support extending parallel to the first support and a mechanism coupling an opposite side of the bracket to the second support.
  • Previously in order to mount grilles in any application, available methods were through holes in the grille frame, through holes in the grille flange, and mounting tabs welded between the linear bars. All of these are time consuming and detract from the appearance of the grille. The previous mounting methods provided little flexibility to position a mounting tab. Further, once the tab was welded on, it could not be relocated in the field.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to a device for mounting linear bar grilles to walls, ceilings, baseboard floors, vents, ducts, HVAC systems, millwork, trenches, radiators, convectors, and enclosures. The present invention relates to a mounting device that comprises a clip that snaps over a crossbar, securing it on three sides within an opening space. The clip comprises a bent section and a base having a through hole. It is an object of the present invention for the clip to be placed in the opening space between two linear bars of the linear bar grille. The bent section of the clip is placed over a crossbar of the linear bar grille. The base has a through hole to accommodate a mechanical fastener. The mechanical fastener attaches the grille to a duct, framed opening, wall, ceiling, base board, HVAC system, cabinet base, vent, radiator, floor, window sill, trench or enclosure. It is an object of the present invention to use at least two devices to mount the linear bar grille. It is an object of the present invention to use at least four devices to mount the linear bar grille. It is an object of the present invention for the fastener to be placed through a metal lip of a duct in a wall or ceiling. It is an object of the present invention for the fastener to be placed through a metal lip at an edge of a radiator enclosure.
  • It is an object of the present invention for the fastener to be attached to a duct flange. It is an object of the present invention for the fastener to be attached to a convector cover. It is an object of the present invention for the fastener to be attached to a wooded frame. It is an object of the present invention for the fastener to be attached to a millwork. It is an object of the present invention for the fastener to be attached to a wood blocking. It is an object of the present invention for the fastener to be attached to a duct opening. It is an object of the present invention for the fastener to be attached to a flange of a vent opening. It is an object of the present invention for the fastener to be attached to a frame of a HVAC system opening. It is an object of the present invention for the fastener to be attached to a wall system.
  • It is an object of the present invention for the clip to be installed, removed, and repositioned repeatedly for the linear bar grille.
  • It is an object of the present invention for the device to be placed anywhere on the crossbar.
  • It is an object of the present invention for the linear bar grille to be 4″ by 120″, having the device attached approximately every two feet.
  • It is an object of the present invention for the device to be put anywhere on the linear bar grille and to use as many devices as required attached to the bar grille.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1 is an unattached view of the device of the present invention.
  • FIG. 2 is a front view of the device of the present invention attached to the grille.
  • FIG. 3 is a sectional view through section B-B found in FIG. 2.
  • FIG. 4 is a front view of the device of the present invention attached to the grille.
  • FIG. 5 is a sectional view through section A-A found in FIG. 4.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • FIG. 1 shows the clip 10 comprising base 11 having a through hole 12 and a bent section 14.
  • FIG. 2 shows a linear bar grille 14 having cross bars 16 and 18. Clips 20 and 22 each have a fastener 24 and 26 which is used to fasten the grille 14 to an object. Clip 20 and 22 each have the bent sections 28 and 30 that fit over cross bars 16 and 18 respectively. The clips 20 and 22 are placed in an opening space 32 between two linear bars.
  • FIG. 3 shows the cross section B-B of FIG. 2. Clips 20 and 22 are shown with the bent sections 28 and 30 placed over cross bars 16 and 18. Fastener 24 is placed through through hole 34 and fastener 26 is placed through through hole 36. The clips 20 and 22 are within opening space 32.
  • FIG. 4 shows a linear bar grille 40 having clips 42, 44, 46, and 48. Clips 42 and 44 are placed over cross bar 50, while clips 46 and 48 are placed over cross bar 52. Clips 42, 44, 46, and 48 have fasteners 54, 56, 58 and 60 respectively. Clips 42, 44, 46, and 48 have bent piece 62, 64, 66, and 68 respectively. Clips 42 and 48 are placed within opening space 70, while clips 44 and 46 are placed within opening space 72 between two linear bars.
  • FIG. 4 shows a mounting that is vertical, but could be for a ceiling duct, radiator, floor, window sill, trench, or any other application requiring the grille to be secured.
  • FIG. 5 shows the cross section A-A shown in FIG. 4. Clips 42 and 44 are shown with fasteners 54 and 56 respectively. The fasteners 54 and 56 are placed through the metal lip 82 of duct 80 in a wall or ceiling. The metal lip 82 of duct could also be an edge of a radiator enclosure.
