Abstract
A lacrosse mesh is provided. In an embodiment, the lacrosse mesh includes a lacrosse mesh product and a polymer coating applied to the lacrosse mesh product comprising. The lacrosse mesh product includes any size and shape of lacrosse mesh. The size of lacrosse mesh includes varying numbers of diamond mesh and/or varying sizes of the diamonds based on square measure and stretch measure. The polymer coating is a silicone blend coating. In another embodiment, the lacrosse mesh includes a method of forming the lacrosse mesh that includes providing a greige tactical yarn; and forming a lacrosse mesh product from the greige tactical yarn, wherein the lacrosse mesh product is a knot-less mesh
Description
- This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional patent application entitled “Lacrosse Mesh,” Ser. No. 62/001,934, filed May 22, 2014, the disclosure of which is hereby incorporated entirely herein by reference.
- 1. Technical Field
- This invention relates generally to lacrosse mesh and more particularly to lacrosse mesh with a polymer coating and a lacrosse mesh formed a tactical yarn.
- 2. State of the Art
- Lacrosse mesh has evolved over time. One aspect of this evolution is the seeking of making the mesh water-resistant. To accomplish this, conventional means include the use of wax. Typically, wax is melted and lacrosse mesh is dipped within the melted wax and then allowed to harden in order to form a coating around the mesh. The mesh is then strung to a head and can be utilized as conventional.
- These conventional wax coated lacrosse mesh eventually wear and the wax is removed from the mesh by use and game play. It then loses its effectiveness to protect the mesh from water and therefore loses the purpose for which it is created.
- Further, conventional greige yarns are heavy and lack strength. Because of this, it is less durable and requires replacement more frequently.
- Accordingly, there is a need in the field of lacrosse mesh for an improved coating to provide water-resistant lacrosse mesh and formed of a yarn that is light weight with improved strength.
- The present invention relates to a lacrosse mesh, wherein some embodiments include a polymer coating and other embodiments are formed of a tactical yarn. According to embodiments, the polymer coating is a silicone blend.
- Embodiments include a lacrosse mesh comprising a lacrosse mesh product and a polymer coating applied to the lacrosse mesh product. The lacrosse mesh product may include any size and shape of lacrosse mesh, wherein the size of lacrosse mesh includes varying numbers of diamond mesh. Further, the size of the mesh may include varying sizes of the diamonds based on square measure and stretch measure. Further, the polymer coating may comprise a silicone blend coating.
- Other embodiments include a method of forming a lacrosse mesh. The method may include providing a greige yarn; forming a lacrosse mesh product from the greige yarn; applying a polymer coating to the lacrosse mesh product; and curing the polymer coating applied to the lacrosse mesh product. The method may include providing a polymer coating that may be a silicone blend coating.
- Another embodiment comprises a method of forming a lacrosse mesh. The method comprises providing a greige tactical yarn; and forming a lacrosse mesh product from the greige tactical yarn, wherein the lacrosse mesh product is a knot-less mesh. In some embodiments, the tactical yarn is an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene.
- The foregoing and other features and advantages of the present invention will be apparent from the following more detailed description of the particular embodiments of the invention, as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

FIG. 8 is a side view of a lacrosse head with a knotted net lacrosse mesh. - As discussed above, embodiments of the present invention relate to a lacrosse mesh with polymer coating. According to embodiments, the polymer coating is a silicone blend.
- Referring to the drawings,
FIG. 1 depicts alacrosse mesh product 10 having apolymer coating 12 applied to the lacrosse mesh product. Thelacrosse mesh product 10 may include any size and shape oflacrosse mesh 10, wherein the size of lacrosse mesh includes varying numbers of diamonds in the mesh. Further, the size of the mesh may include varying sizes of the diamonds based on square measure and stretch measure. Further, thepolymer coating 12 may comprise a silicone blend coating. Thesilicone coating 12 may be light weight and includes better water-resistant qualities that wax coatings of conventional lacrosse mesh products. Further, thesilicone blend coating 12 includes a longer functional life than wax. - Once the
polymer coating 12 is applied to thelacrosse mesh product 10, then thelacrosse mesh product 10 with thepolymer coating 12 may be coupled to a head of a lacrosse stick in a conventional manner. Thepolymer coating 12 operates to protect thelacrosse mesh product 10 from damage that may be cause by rain, and other moisture elements. - Referring again to the drawings,
FIG. 2 depicts amethod 20 of forming a lacrosse mesh according to embodiments. Themethod 20 may comprise providing a greige yarn (Step 21); forming a lacrosse mesh product from the greige yarn (Step 22); applying a polymer coating to the lacrosse mesh product (Step 23); and curing the polymer coating applied to the lacrosse mesh product (Step 24). - The method may further comprise providing a polymer coating that may be a silicone blend coating. In other embodiments, the yarn may be a colored yarn. Further, the lacrosse mesh product may be formed of a plurality of different colors of yarn. Additionally, the method may include coloring the yarn after forming the lacrosse mesh product and before applying a silicone blend coating.
- Referring again to the drawings,
FIG. 3 depicts amethod 30 of forming lacrosse mesh with a tactical yarn. The method may comprise providing a greige tactical yarn (Step 31); and forming a lacrosse mesh product from the greige tactical yarn (Step 32), wherein the lacrosse mesh product is a knot-less mesh. - In embodiments of the
method 30, the tactical yarn may include an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene. For example, one particular tactical yarn may be lighter than water and 15 times stronger than steel. Further the tactical yarn is resistant to water, resistant to acid, resistant to alkali, resistant to most chemicals, and resistant to UV light. - It will be understood that while a tactical yarn that includes an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene is discussed, other types of tactical yarn may be utilized, like a yarn formed of a para-aramid synthetic fiber and a yarn formed of a flame resistant meta-aramid. Each of these tactical yarns provides added strength in a mush lighter finished product.
- Referring to
FIG. 4 , thelacrosse mesh product 10 formed of tactical yarn may include any size and shape of lacrosse mesh, wherein the size of lacrosse mesh includes varying numbers ofdiamonds 11 in the mesh. Further, the size of the mesh may include varying sizes of thediamonds 11 based on square measure and stretch measure. - In some embodiments, the method of forming a
lacrosse mesh product 10 comprises forming a top string, sidewall string, shooting strings, shooting laces and cross lace from a greige tactical yarn. - In additional embodiments, the
lacrosse mesh 40 can be formed with knotted net, as shown inFIGS. 5-8 , and may be coupled to alacrosse head 50. The knotted net 40 includesdiamonds 42 that includeknots 44 on the corners of thediamonds 42. In these embodiments, the knotted net 40 may use strands of mesh that are a solid braid. Other embodiments may use strands that include a diamond braid. Further, the knotted net lacrosse mesh includes a double selvedge on both sides in order to reinforce the sides at the areas that the knotted lacrosse mesh is coupled to the lacrosse head. This allows for a longer use life of the knotted net lacrosse mesh by strengthening the mesh at the point that it sees the most forces. Additionally, the knotted net lacrosse mesh provides advantages in breaking in the pocket. Because of the formation of the net, there is greater ability to quickly form a pocket and have the lacrosse mesh more readily useable. - The embodiments and examples set forth herein were presented in order to best explain the present invention and its practical application and to thereby enable those of ordinary skill in the art to make and use the invention. However, those of ordinary skill in the art will recognize that the foregoing description and examples have been presented for the purposes of illustration and example only. Many modifications and variations are possible in light of the teachings above without departing from the spirit and scope of the forthcoming claims.
Claims (20)
1. A lacrosse mesh comprising:
a lacrosse mesh product; and
a polymer coating applied to the lacrosse mesh product comprising.
2. The mesh of claim 1 , wherein the lacrosse mesh product includes any size and shape of lacrosse mesh.
3. The mesh of claim 2 , wherein the size of lacrosse mesh includes varying numbers of diamond mesh.
4. The mesh of claim 3 , wherein the size of the mesh includes varying sizes of the diamonds based on square measure and stretch measure.
5. The mesh of claim 1 , wherein the polymer coating comprises a silicone blend coating.
6. A method of forming a lacrosse mesh, the method comprising:
providing a greige yarn;
forming a lacrosse mesh product from the greige yarn;
applying a polymer coating to the lacrosse mesh product; and
curing the polymer coating applied to the lacrosse mesh product.
7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the polymer coating is a silicone blend coating.
8. The method of claim 6 , wherein the lacrosse mesh product includes any size and shape of lacrosse mesh.
9. The mesh of claim 8 , wherein the size of lacrosse mesh includes varying numbers of diamond mesh.
10. The mesh of claim 9 , wherein the size of the mesh includes varying sizes of the diamonds based on square measure and stretch measure.
11. A method of forming lacrosse mesh, the method comprising:
providing a greige tactical yarn; and
forming a lacrosse mesh product from the greige tactical yarn, wherein the lacrosse mesh product is a knot-less mesh.
12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the tactical yarn is an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene.
13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the tactical yarn is lighter than water and fifteen times stronger than steel.
14. The method of claim 11 , wherein the tactical yarn is resistant to water, resistant to acid, resistant to alkali, resistant to most chemicals, and resistant to UV light.
15. The method of claim 11 , further comprising forming a top string, sidewall string, shooting strings, shooting laces and cross lace from a greige tactical yarn.
16. The method of claim 11 , wherein the lacrosse mesh product includes any size and shape of lacrosse mesh.
17. The mesh of claim 16 , wherein the size of lacrosse mesh includes varying numbers of diamond mesh.
18. The mesh of claim 17 , wherein the size of the mesh includes varying sizes of the diamonds based on square measure and stretch measure.
19. A lacrosse mesh comprising:
knotted net having a plurality of diamonds formed in the net and a plurality of knots, wherein each not is located on a corner of a diamond of the plurality of diamonds; and
a double selvedge on opposing sides of the knotted net.
20. The lacrosse mesh of claim 19 , further comprising strands of mesh that are one of a solid braid or a diamond braid.
