Abstract
A gunholder to accommodate a handgun within and to allow a user to support the gunholder with two hands is disclosed. The gunholder includes a front section having a trigger guard chamber to receive a trigger guard of the gun. The gunholder additionally includes a rear section pivotally attached to the front section through a hinge mechanism. The gunholder additionally includes a locking mechanism to lock the front section and the rear section in an aligned position.
Description
- This application claims the benefit of Israeli Patent Application No. 232455 filed on 4 May 2014.
- The present invention, in some embodiments thereof, relates to firearms and, more particularly, but not exclusively, to a handgun holder.
- Handguns are generally designed to be held in a single hand while firing. Frequently, a user's hand may shake while aiming the handgun towards a target due to trembling of the hand while supporting the weight of the gun. As a result of the shaking, aiming may be inaccurate and the user may miss the target when firing. Another factor that may contribute to inaccurate aiming is the inability of the user to resist with one hand the recoil force of the handgun when fired, so that the bullet travels in a different path than the path in which it was aimed. Therefore, accurate aiming and firing of a handgun generally require that the user be well-experienced in the use of such types of firearms.
- In efforts to overcome the drawbacks of using a single hand to aim and fire a handgun, gun holders are known that are designed to accommodate a handgun and allow the user to aim and fire the gun using two hands. Use of two hands generally provides greater stability, allowing the user to more accurately aim and fire the gun. Described herein below are some examples of known gun holders.
- U.S. Pat. No. 5,956,879 to Zerega relates to “a guard including a handle and having a tang received in a mounting device mounted on a handgun, providing a user with dual-handled control over the handgun”.
- US Patent Application Publication No. U.S. 2012/0131829 A1 to Fistikchi et al. “relates to the ability of individual, firearms owners and representatives of the law enforcement, military and governmental entities to enhance the pointability and shootability of their firearms, there is provided a firearm accessory including a handgun, a body including at least one securer for readily securing said handgun to the firearm accessory, wherein the securer is selected from the group consisting of: a grip securer, a racker and a trigger guard securer”.

- With this in mind, in one aspect of the present invention a gunholder to accommodate a handgun within and to allow a user to support the gunholder with two hands comprises a front section including a trigger guard chamber to fittedly receive a trigger guard of the gun, a rear section pivotally attached to the front section through a hinge mechanism, and a locking mechanism to lock the front section and the rear section in an aligned position.

Details shown are for exemplary purposes and serve to provide a discussion of embodiments of the invention. The description and the drawings may be apparent to those skilled in the art how embodiments of the invention may be practiced.

FIG. 6 schematically illustrates a sight tunnel in the exemplary handgun holder ofFIG. 1 which allows a user to accurately point the handgun at a target using the handgun's front and rear sights, according to an embodiment of the present invention. - Before explaining at least one embodiment of the invention in detail, it is to be understood that the invention is not necessarily limited in its application to the details of construction and the arrangement of the components and/or methods set forth in the following description and/or illustrated in the drawings. The invention is capable of other embodiments or of being practiced or carried out in various ways.
- Reference is now made to
FIG. 1 which schematically illustrates a perspective view of anexemplary handgun holder 10 in a folded position, according to an embodiment of the present invention. Reference is also made toFIG. 2 which schematically illustrateshandgun 12 partially accommodated inhandgun holder 10, and toFIGS. 3 and 4 which schematically illustratehandgun 12 locked insidehandgun holder 10, all in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention.Handgun holder 10 may accommodate ahandgun 12 to allow a user to support the handgun with two hands for more accurate aiming and firing of the firearm.Handgun holder 10 may include two sections, a front section 11 and a foldable rear section 13 pivotally secured together by a hinge 17. A locking mechanism 35 may lock front section 11 and rear section 13 together to align the sections together lockinghandgun 12 ingun holder 10. - Front section 11 may include an
interior cavity 34 into whichgun 12 may be inserted for preparing the weapon for firing throughhandgun holder 10. Atrigger guard chamber 16 may accommodate atrigger guard 14 ingun 12 and may include aclamping mechanism 38 to secure the trigger guard and thereby the front section of the gun.Clamping mechanism 38 may include an eccentric clamp. - Front section 11 may include in its interior a gun holder attachment rail 70, for example a Picatinny rail, which may slidingly mate with a
corresponding attachment rail 40 inhandgun 12 when the handgun is inserted intointerior cavity 34. Gun holder attachment rail 70 may serve to align a centerline of a gun muzzle 15 ingun 12 with a centerline of arecoil barrel 28 in front section 11.Recoil barrel 28 may be of a diameter substantially larger than that of gun muzzle 15 in order to allow propelling gases to escape freely through the recoil barrel's opening to prevent the gases from affecting a bullet's trajectory whengun 12 is fired, and to reduce recoil. - A forward section of front section 11 surrounding gun barrel 19 may include a
magnetic material 68 which may surround a portion of the of gun barrel and may attract the metallic material in the barrel. Thisrecoil magnet 68 may serve to delay gun recoil for a brief period of time, for example, 1 millisecond (ms), 3 ms, 5 ms, 10 ms, or more. - Front section 11 may additionally include in an upper section an accessory attachment rail, for example a Picatinny rail, onto which may be attached weapon accessories such as, for example, a telescopic sight, a range finder, a designator, among other types of weapon accessories. Additionally included may be a foldable or otherwise removable forward handle which may be held by a user while firing with
handgun holder 10. - Front section 11 may additionally include a
bolt handle 26 which may be manually slid along abolt channel 24. Sliding ofbolt handle 26 may operate aslide 64 inhandgun 12 to reload a bullet into the gun.Bolt channel 24 may include at an end a bolt catch 41 into whichbolt handle 26 may be inserted, to allow a user ofhand gun holder 10 to inspect gun barrel 19. - Locking mechanism 35 may include a
removable pin 36, a locking slot 37 and a locking insert 39 which may be fittedly inserted in the locking slot. Locking mechanism 35 may serve to lock rear section 13 in alignment with front section 11 thereby securinghandgun 12 withingun holder 10. A protrudingelement 18 in rear section 13 may push into agrip safety 20 inhandgun 12 when the rear section is locked against front section 11, tightly securing the handgun insidehandgun holder 10 for firing. - Alignment of front section 11 with rear section 13 may be done by pivoting the rear section towards the front section until locking insert 39 is fittedly positioned inside locking slot 37.
Removable pin 36 may then be inserted through locking insert 39 while inside locking slot 37. Removal ofremovable pin 36 may release locking insert 39 from locking slot 37 to allow pivoting rear section 13 with respect to front section 11. Unlocking rear section 13 from front section 11 may allow withdrawal and insertion ofhandgun 12 inhandgun holder 10. Additionally, rear section 13 may be folded against front section 11 to reduce the size of thehandgun holder 10 to facilitate its storage and handling. - Rear section 13 may include a
stock 32 which may be pivoted upwards or downwards as shown byarrows FIG. 6 . Astock locking mechanism 48 included therein may be released to allow pivoting ofstock 32 and, then secured to fix the stock at a desired shooting angle. - Reference is now made to
FIG. 6 which schematically illustrates asight tunnel 60 inhandgun holder 10, according to an embodiment of the present invention.Handgun holder 10 may allow the user to accurately firegun 12 by viewing a target through sight tunnel including use of arear sight 56 and afront sight 58 in the gun to point the weapon at a target. - In the figures and/or description herein, the following reference numerals have been mentioned:

The gun holder may include two sections, a foldable rear section and a front section secured together by a hinge and a locking mechanism so that, when the two sections are aligned, the gun is secured inside the gun holder. Insertion and removal of the gun in the gun holder may be facilitated when the rear section is pivoted with respect to the front section. The gun holder may include an attachment rail in the front section, for example, a Picatinny rail, which may accommodate an underside of the gun frame and may align the centerline of the gun muzzle with a centerline of a recoil barrel in the gun holder. In one or more possible embodiments, the front section may include a chamber with a clamping mechanism to fittedly accommodate the trigger guard of the handgun inside the chamber. The rear section may include a protrusion which may be wedged under the grip safety of the handgun in the gun holding position to exert a locking pressure in a forward direction (toward the forward section) on the gun.
- In one or more possible embodiments, the recoil barrel may be of a substantially larger diameter compared to that of the gun barrel so as to not interfere with the aerodynamic behavior of the bullet as it leaves the gun muzzle. The substantially larger diameter may serve as an expansion chamber and may allow propelling gases to freely escape through the recoil barrel to reduce recoil of the gun. The recoil barrel may include a magnetic material which may attract the metallic material in the gun, for example the gun slide, to delay recoil of the gun.
- To better understand one or more exemplary embodiments with reference to the drawing figures, using reference numbers, a gunholder (10) may accommodate a handgun (12) within and allow a user to support the gunholder with two hands. The gunholder (12) may include a front section (11) having a trigger guard chamber (16) to receive a trigger guard (14) of the gun. A rear section (13) may be pivotally attached to the front section (11) through a hinge mechanism (17). A locking mechanism (35) may lock the front section (11) and the rear section (13) in an aligned position.
- The locking mechanism (35) may include a removable pin (36).
- The locking mechanism (35) may include a locking slot (37) in the front section (11) or the rear section (13).
- The locking mechanism (35) may include a locking insert (39) in the front section (11) or the rear section (13) and may be fittedly insertable in the locking slot (37).
- The trigger guard chamber (16) may include a clamping mechanism (38) to exert pressure on the trigger guard (14).
- The clamping mechanism (38) may include an eccentric clamp.
- The front section (11) may include a magnetic material (68).
- The front section (11) may include a recoil barrel (28).
- The front section (11) may include an internal cavity (34) to accommodate the handgun (12).
- The rear section (13) may include a protruding element (18) to apply forward pressure on a grip safety (20) in the handgun (12) when the front section (11) and the rear section (13) are locked together by the locking mechanism (35).

Claims (10)
1. A gunholder to accommodate a handgun within and to allow a user to support the gunholder with two hands, comprising:
a front section comprising a trigger guard chamber to fittedly receive a trigger guard of the gun;
a rear section pivotally attached to said front section through a hinge mechanism; and
a locking mechanism to lock said front section and said rear section in an aligned position.
2. The gunholder of claim 1 wherein said locking mechanism comprises a removable pin.
3. The gunholder of claim 2 wherein said locking mechanism comprises a locking slot in said front section or said rear section.
4. The gunholder of claim 3 wherein said locking mechanism comprises a locking insert in said front section or said rear section and in fittedly insertable in said locking slot.
5. The gunholder of claim 1 wherein said trigger guard chamber comprises a clamping mechanism to exert pressure on said trigger guard.
6. The gunholder of claim 1 wherein said clamping mechanism comprises an eccentric clamp.
7. The gunholder of claim 1 wherein said front section comprises a magnetic material.
8. The gunholder of claim 1 wherein said front section comprises a recoil barrel.
9. The gunholder of claim 1 wherein said front section comprises an internal cavity to accommodate the handgun.
10. The gunholder of claim 1 wherein said rear section comprises a protruding element to apply forward pressure on a grip safety in the handgun when said front section and said rear section are locked together by said locking mechanism.
