Abstract
The present invention is a hair piece assembly that includes a plurality of individual hair strands having one end of each of the hair strands within an assembly sandwiched between a connector base and securing cover whereby the hair piece assembly is configured for connection directly to the scalp of an individual. The connector base of the hair piece assembly may be configured in multiple embodiments, at least as connection strips or a cap. In embodiments where the connector base is configured as a connector base strip, the hair piece assembly is comprised of a connector base strip and a securing cover strip. The connector base strip is comprised of a bonding agent having a low melting temperature and the securing cover strip is comprised of a non-dissolving translucent material. Individual hair strands shall be sandwiched between the exterior surface of the connection base strip and the interior surface of the securing cover strip. Upon the application of heat, the connection base strip dissolves and temporarily connects hair strands to the scalp of an individual. The securing cover strip protects the connection of the individual hair strand to the connection base strip, which is connected to the scalp of the individual.
Description
- I. Field of the Invention
- The invention relates to a hair replacement assembly and more particularly to a hair extension assembly configured for application directly to the scalp of an individual.
- II. Background Information
- During hair loss, whether from illness or disease, not only does an individual have the difficult challenge of overcoming the illness or medical issue, they have to suffer through the misfortune of substantial or total loss of hair. Hair loss as a result of illness treatments, such as chemotherapy, persists for several weeks or months, during the treatment and afterward while new hair is growing. Hair loss may also be a result of stress, closed follicles, or other medical issues. Lots of people feel that their hair is an extension of their identity, their self-expression. Some women dislike wearing a wig and would rather have a more permanent solution, such as hair extensions. However, traditional hair extensions are not an option in every circumstance because in some instances, there is not enough hair to which the hair extensions may be connected; as hair extensions are typically connected to an individual's hair by way of glue, thread or hair pins. There is a need for a hair replacement solution for individuals who do not like to don a wig that are suffering from hair loss and do not have enough hair on their respective scalp to which extensions may be attached. There is also a need for an improved hair attachment assembly that enables the attachment of hair extensions to the scalp of an individual without the accessories that facilitate hair attachment such as messy glue, thread or hairpins.
- Conventional bandanas, scarves, and head covers have been tried as a solution to hair loss but they are often not very attractive and require constant attention to keep them from slipping over the ears, down the forehead or coming completely off. In addition, because bandanas, scarves, and head covers conform to the contour of the head it covers, when a wearer has little or no hair, that fact becomes obvious to an observer because these head cover options lack the appearance they have when worn over a full head of hair. There is a need for a hair replacement assembly that enables a person who has experienced hair loss with the ability to add replacement hair that has a completely natural appearance and that is easy to maintain without the possibility of an embarrassing circumstance where the replacement hair slides off and advertises to the public that the wearer has no hair. There is a need for a hair replacement assembly that allows the hair added to pulled, blown, grabbed, snitched and or whipped without being detached, moved or repositioned on the head of the wearer.
- Consistent with embodiments of the present invention, a hair extension assembly is disclosed. The present invention is a hair piece assembly comprising a base connector and a securing cover having a first end of individual hair strands sandwiched between the connector base and securing cover, wherein the connector base is attached directly to the scalp of an individual. The connector base may be configured in one embodiment as a strip. In an alternative embodiment the connector base may be configured as a cap. The securing cover strip is connected to the connector base and a plurality of hair strands are sandwiched between the connector base and the securing cover strip. The connector base is comprised of a melting/dissolving bonding agent having a low melting temperature. The securing cover strip is comprised of a non-dissolving and non-melting translucent material coated with a layer of adhesive. In one embodiment, such as the embodiment where the connector base is configured as a strip, the hair strands of the hair assembly are connected to the connector base strip by way of having a first end of each hair strand engulfed within the melting bonding agent. The connector base strip interior and exterior surfaces are coated with a layer of adhesive. The hair assembly further includes a first connector base removable strip that covers the interior surface of the connector base strip and is removably attached to the connector base strip by the layer of adhesive coating on the interior surface of the connector base strip. The connector base also includes a second connector base removable strip that covers at least a portion of the exterior surface of the connector base strip and is removably attached thereto by a layer of adhesive coating on the exterior surface of the connector base strip.
- In alternative embodiments, the connector base and the connector cover of the hairpiece assembly may be configured in a Y-Shape in one embodiment and in an alternative embodiment the connector base and the connector cover of the hairpiece assembly may be configured in a V-Shape.

FIG. 9 is a perspective view of an alternative embodiment of the present invention. - Consistent with embodiments, the present invention is a hair connection assembly operatively configured to connect a plurality of individual hair strands to a connector that is attached to the scalp of an individual. In embodiments where the connector base of hair connection assembly are strips configured as a Y-Shaped or V-Shaped assemblies, the hair connection assembly is comprised of a connector base strip and a securing cover strip. In one embodiment the securing cover strip is connected to the connector base strip in a manner that produces a Y-Shaped hair connection assembly. In an alternative embodiment, the connection assembly is V-Shaped where the securing cover strip and the connector base strip are connected at the first end of the securing cover strip and first end of the connector base strip. The connector base strip is comprised of a melting bonding agent having a low melting temperature and the securing cover strip is comprised of a non-dissolving non-melting translucent material. Individual hair strands shall be positioned in the mouth of the Y or V portion of the connection assembly, sandwiched between the exterior surface of the connector base strip and the interior surface of the securing cover strip. Upon the application of heat, the connector base strip melts and engulfs the individual hair strands and secures itself and thereby the engulfed hair strands to the scalp of an individual upon cooling. The hair strands are sandwiched between the connector base strip and the interior surface of the securing cover strip.
- Prior to application of the hair connection assembly, the hair connection assembly is configured in a manner wherein the interior surface of the connector base strip is coated with a layer of adhesive that facilitates the connection of a first connector base removable strip to the connector base strip in a manner that covers the entire surface of the connector base leg. The exterior surface of the connector base strip may also coated with a layer of adhesive that connects a second connector base removable strip to the exterior surface of the connector base strip in a manner that covers the entire exterior surface of the connector base strip below the point at which the securing cover strip extends from the connector base strip in the Y-shaped configuration. A section of the connector base leg is comprised of a first end of the securing cover strip and the connector base strip sandwiched together. In an alternative embodiment, the connector outer leg is substantially shorter than the length of the connector base leg below the point at which the connector outer leg extends from the connector base leg.

While several embodiments and features of the invention are described herein, modifications, adaptations and other implementations are possible, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. For example, substitutions, additions or modifications may be made to the components illustrated in the drawings, and the methods described herein may be modified by substituting, reordering or adding reconfigured components to the disclosed assembly. Accordingly, the following detailed description does not limit the invention. Instead, the proper scope of the invention is defined by the appended claims.
- A first embodiment of the present invention is disclosed in
FIGS. 1 and 4 . As illustrated inFIG. 1 , the first embodiment disclosed, thehair piece assembly 8 is comprised of ahair strand connector 10 and a plurality ofhair strands 4. As illustrated inFIG. 1 , a first end of the plurality ofhair strands 4 is sandwiched between the hair strandconnector base strip 12 and the hair strand connector securingcover strip 32 of thehair strand connector 10. As illustrated inFIGS. 2 and 3 , thehair strand connector 10, of thehair piece assembly 8, is comprised of a hair strandconnector base strip 12, and a hair strand connector securingcover strip 32, wherein the hair strandconnector base strip 12 has afirst portion 20 and asecond portion 22. - The
first portion 20 of the hair strandconnector base strip 12 has a hair strand connector base stripinterior surface 14 and a hair strand connector basestrip exterior surface 16. An adhesive is applied to hair strand connector base stripinterior surface 14 enabling the attachment and removal of first removableconnector base strip 18 to hair strand connector base stripinterior surface 14. An adhesive is also applied to hair strand connector basestrip exterior surface 16 enabling the attachment and removal of second removableconnector base strip 19 to hair strand connector basestrip exterior surface 16. Thesecond portion 22 of the hair strandconnector base strip 12 has a hair strand connector base stripinterior surface 14 and a hair strand connector basestrip exterior surface 26. An adhesive is applied to hair strand connector base stripinterior surface 14 enabling the attachment and removal of first removableconnector base strip 18 to hair strand connector base stripinterior surface 14. An adhesive is also applied to hair strand connector basestrip exterior surface 26 enabling the attachment and removal of second removableconnector base strip 28 to hair strand connector basestrip exterior surface 26. - A
section 21 ofsecond portion 22 of the hair strandconnector base strip 12 may be reduced in thickness as illustrated inFIG. 3 , but thickness reduction is not required. It is contemplated that thesection 21 ofsecond portion 22 of the hair strandconnector base strip 12 my have the same or varying thickness as the other sections or comprising hair strandconnector base strip 12. - The hair strand
connector securing strip 32 has a securing cover stripinterior surface 34 and a securing coverstrip exterior surface 36. Aportion 38 of the first end of the hair strandconnector securing strip 32 is attached parallel tosection 21 ofsecond portion 22 of the hair strandconnector base strip 12 at securing coverstrip exterior surface 36 and hair strand connector basestrip exterior surface 24. Thehair adhesion region 42 is where Individual hair strands shall be positioned and sandwiched between the securing cover stripinterior surface 34 of the hair strandconnector securing strip 32 and the hair strand connector basestrip exterior surface 26 ofsecond portion 22 of the hair strandconnector base strip 12. - A second embodiment of the present invention is disclosed in
FIG. 5 . In the second embodiment disclosed, thehair piece assembly 108 is comprised of ahair strand connector 110 and a plurality ofhair strands 4. As illustrated inFIG. 5 , a first end of the plurality ofhair strands 4 is sandwiched between the hair strandconnector base strip 112 and the hair strand connector securingcover strip 132 of thehair strand connector 110, As illustrated inFIG. 5 , thehair strand connector 110, of the hair piece assembly 1088, is comprised of a hair strandconnector base strip 112 and a hair strand connector securingcover strip 132, wherein the hair strandconnector base strip 112 has afirst portion 120 and asecond portion 122. In the embodiment illustrated the hair strand connector securingcover strip 132 is substantially shorter than thesecond portion 122 of the hair strandconnector base strip 112. Thehair adhesion region 142 of the embodiment illustrated is where Individual hair strands shall be positioned and sandwiched between the interior surface of securingconnector strip 132 and the exterior surface of the hair strandconnector base strip 112second portion 122. - A third embodiment of the present invention is disclosed in
FIG. 7 . In the third embodiment disclosed, thehair piece assembly 208 is comprised of ahair strand connector 210 and a plurality ofhair strands 4. As illustrated inFIG. 7 , a first end of the plurality ofhair strands 4 is sandwiched between the hair strandconnector base strip 222 and the hair strand connector securingcover strip 232 of thehair strand connector 210. As illustrated inFIG. 7 , thehair strand connector 210, of thehair piece assembly 208 is comprised of a hair strandconnector base strip 232 and a hair strand connector securingcover strip 232. Thehair adhesion region 242 of the embodiment illustrated is where individual hair strands shall be positioned and sandwiched between the interior surface of securingconnector strip 132 and the exterior surface of the hair strandconnector base strip 122. - Another embodiment of the present invention is disclosed in
FIG. 9 . In this embodiment disclosed, thehair piece assembly 308 is comprised of a hairstrand connector cap 82 and a plurality of hair strands not shown. As illustrated in embodiments shown inFIGS. 1 , 4, 5 and 7 a first end of the plurality of hair strands shall be sandwiched between the hair strand connector base strip portion and the hair strand connector securing cover strip 84 of thehair strand connector 82. As illustrated inFIG. 9 , thehair strand connector 82, of thehair piece assembly 308, is comprised of a hair strand connector base strip and a hair strand connector securing cover strip 84. The hair adhesion region of the embodiment illustrated is where individual hair strands shall be positioned and sandwiched between the interior surface of one of a plurality of securing connector strips 84 and the exterior surface of one of a plurality of hair strand connector base strips of thehair strand connector 82 configured as a cap. - While example embodiments and applications of the present invention have been illustrated and described, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the precise configuration and resources described above. Various modifications, changes, and variations apparent to those skilled in the art may be made in the arrangement, operation, and details of the methods and systems of the present invention disclosed herein without departing from the scope of the claimed invention.
- The above specification, examples and data provide a description of the manufacture and use of the invention. Since many embodiments of the invention can be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention, the invention resides in the claims hereinafter appended.
Claims (17)
1. A hair piece assembly comprising:
a connector base strip;
a securing cover strip connected to the connector base strip; and
a plurality of hair strands sandwiched between the connector base strip and the securing cover strip;
wherein the connector base strip is comprised of a bonding agent having a low melting temperature;
wherein the securing cover strip is comprised of a translucent material coated with a layer of adhesive.
2. The hair piece assembly of claim 1 wherein the hair strands are connected to the connector base strip by way of a layer of adhesive positioned on an exterior surface of the connector base strip.
3. The hair piece assembly of claim 1 wherein the hair strands are connected to the connector base strip by way of having a first end of the hair strands engulfed within the bonding agent.
4. The hair piece assembly of claim 1 wherein the connector base strip interior and exterior surfaces are coated with a layer of adhesive.
5. The hair piece assembly of claim 4 wherein a first connector base removable strip covers the interior surface of the connector base strip and is removably attached thereto by the layer of adhesive coating on the interior surface of the connector base strip.
6. The hair piece assembly of claim 4 wherein a second connector base removable strip covers at least a portion of the exterior surface of the connector base strip and is removably attached thereto by the layer of adhesive coating on the exterior surface of the connector base strip.
7. The hair piece assembly of claim 1 wherein a section of the connector base strip is includes a first end of the securing cover strip and a portion of the connector base strip sandwiched together.
8. The hair piece assembly of claim 1 wherein the securing cover strip is substantially shorter than the length of the connector base strip and is connected between the first and second ends of the connector base strip.
9. A hair piece assembly comprising:
a connector base strip having first and second ends;
a securing cover strip having first and second ends wherein a first end of the securing cover strip is connected to the connector base strip; and
a plurality of hair strands sandwiched between a second end of the connector base strip and second end of the securing cover strip;
wherein the connector base strip is comprised of a bonding agent having a low melting temperature;
wherein the securing cover strip is comprised of a translucent material coated with a layer of adhesive.
10. The hair piece assembly of claim 9 wherein the securing cover strip and the connector base strip are connected to create a y-shaped assembly wherein the first end of the securing cover strip is attached to the connector base strip away from the first and second ends of the connector base strip.
11. The hair piece assembly of claim 9 wherein the securing cover strip and the connector base strip are connected to create a v-shaped assembly wherein the first end of the securing cover strip is attached to the first end of the connector base strip.
12. A hair connection assembly operatively configured to connect hair to the scalp of an individual, wherein the connection system comprises;
a connector base cap;
a plurality of connector flanges, wherein each of the plurality of connector flanges is attached to the connector base cap by a first end of each connecter flange; and
a plurality of hair strands wherein a first end of each of the plurality of hair strands is positioned between a portion of the connector base cap and a corresponding connector flange, wherein the connector flange is positioned proximate the portion of the connector base cap sandwiching the plurality of hair strands between a portion of the connector base cap and a corresponding connector flange;
wherein at least a portion of the connector base cap is comprised of a bonding agent having a low melting temperature, wherein the connector base cap is sized and shaped to fit the head of an individual wearer;
wherein each of the connector flanges is comprised of a translucent material.
13. The hair connection assembly of claim 12 wherein the plurality of hair strands are connected to the connector base cap by way of a layer of adhesive positioned on an exterior surface of the connector base cap.
14. The hair connection assembly of claim 12 wherein the plurality of hair strands are connected to the connector base cap by way of having a first end of the hair strands comprising the plurality of hair strands engulfed within the bonding agent.
15. The hair piece assembly of claim 1 wherein the connector base strip interior and exterior surfaces are coated with a layer of adhesive.
16. The hair connection assembly of claim 15 wherein a first connector base removable strip covers the interior surface of a portion of the connector base cap and is removably attached thereto by a layer of adhesive coating on the interior surface of the portion of the connector base cap.
17. The hair connection assembly of claim 15 wherein a second connector base removable strip covers at least a portion of the exterior surface of a portion of the connector base cap and is removably attached thereto by the layer of adhesive coating on the exterior surface of the connector base cap.
