Description
- This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Application Ser. No. 61/585,416 filed on Jan. 11, 2012.
- 1. Field of Invention
- The present invention relates to a weighted body suit that may be utilized for exercise and fitness purposes.
- 2. Description of Related Art
- Many individuals engaged in various forms of exercise and may use various devices, techniques and exercise regimes in order to maintain their overall fitness level. Many of the popular fitness or exercise regimes include running, cycling, aerobics, weight training, swimming and various forms of cross-fit regimes. The overall fitness industry is quite extensive and offers many options for individuals to maintain their overall fitness. Various fitness devices are sold that allow an individual to engage in various forms of exercise. Many of these devices are related to weight or resistance training Weight or resistance training allows individuals to engage their muscles in order to keep the muscles firm and tone. Further some individuals overload weights to bulk up their muscle content. Also some individuals combine weight training with aerobic activity in order to increase the calorie burn associated with a certain aerobic activity. Some individuals actually run with additional weights in their hands or strapped to their torso or ankles to decrease the intensity of the workout. Yet other devices include weighted vests or body pads that are added or worn by an individual while performing aerobic activities such as running Consequently, it still remains a vast interest and need for innovation in physical fitness equipment.
- The present invention relates to a weighted body suit for exercise purposes comprising: a pair of sleeves; a pair of pants legs; a zipper; ankle level weight attachments; pants leg weight attachments; a detachable waist weight; and a chest and shoulder weight harness. The waist weight may include a belt connector to enable attachment and de-attachment of the waist weight around the waist area of the weighted body suit. The chest and shoulder harness may also include a connector to enable attachment and de-attachment of the chest and shoulder harness around the chest and shoulder area of the weighted body suit. Each weight attachment weighs in a range of about 5 pounds to about 10 pounds.
-
FIG. 1 depicts a weighted body suit in accordance with the present invention. - The present invention relates to a weighted body suit that allows an individual to add weight to the suit prior to physical activity. The weighted body suit according to the present invention enables the individual to add additional weight to different areas or components of the suit so that the weight is not concentrated in one particular area, such as ankle weight or a weighted body vest. The present invention includes an overall body suit that is worn by an individual that has specific locations for additional weight through the use of belt connections and weight insertions at various points on the body suit.
- In reference to
FIG. 1 , a top view of aweighted body suit 100 in accordance with the present invention is depicted. Thebody suit 100 includes pants, legs and sleeves as shown inFIG. 1 . In this particular embodiment depicted inFIG. 1 , short sleeves are presented as an option for use with the weighted body suit. However, it is contemplated that long-sleeves may be used as a substitute for the short sleeves depicted. At the end of each sleeve is asleeve weight sleeve weights zipper 40 is provided in the middle body section of thesuit 100. Thezipper 40 allows the individual to unzip the body suit in order to step into the legs and arms of thesuit 100. Also the upper body section of theweighted body suit 100 includes a chest weight 23 which is adjoined toshoulder weights FIG. 1 ,shoulder weights body suit 100. Theseshoulder weights connector 32 is used to connect and snap or fasten the shoulder and chest weights into place on the upper body of thebody suit 100. Theconnector 32 may include a hook and loop fastening mechanism as a means to connect and maintain the chest and shoulder weights in place. - Further the
body suit 100 includes awaist weight 25. Thewaist weight 25 is held in place with abelt connector 34. Thebelt connector 34 fastens thewaist weight 25 into place around the waist of thebody suit 100. Thebelt connector 34 may also include a hook and loop fastening mechanism as a means to connect and secure thewaist weight 25 in place. Further weights placed on thebody suit 100 includeleg weights body suit 100. Finally a final set of weights is applied at the ankle level of thebody suit 100.Ankle weights body suit 100. The placement of the weights allows an individual to vary the amount of weight that is placed onto theweighted body suit 100. In one exemplary embodiment, the waist weights may weigh about 5 pounds. The leg weights may weigh about 10 pounds each and additional weight provided at the ankles with the ankle weights weighing about 10 pounds each. Consequently, the leg, ankle and waist weights provide an individual with up to 45 pounds of additional weight by wearing the weighted body suit. Further the individual has the option to remove the waist weight by disconnecting thebelt connector 34. Additional weight may be provided by the chest shoulder weight attachment where the chest weights may weigh about 5 pounds and each shoulder weight may weigh an additional 5 pounds. The shoulder, chest, waist, leg and ankle weights may provide an individual with an additional 65 pounds available while wearing the weighted body suit according to present invention. During exercise an individual may wear the entire body suit where the weights are distributed over the various portions and extremities of the body suit. The weights may be attached and detached in order to increase and vary the weights used at various areas of the body. The weighted body suit provides an effective and efficient means to increase intensity of aerobic activity by simply increasing the overall weight that the individual is subjecting their limbs and body to during exercise. The weighted body suit according to present invention in one particular embodiment may be a neoprene suit that includes a means for attachment of the weights to the sleeves and legs of the suit. The instant invention has been shown and described in what it considers to be the most practical and preferred embodiments. It is recognized, however, that departures may be made there from within the scope of the invention and that obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art.
