Abstract

A refillable animal repellent canister comprising a housing with a removable cap, a spike attached to the base for mounting the canister into the ground and vents to allow repellent fumes to escape said canister. A canister is refillable by removing a cap from the housing and said canister is weatherproofed with the cap on. A canister with the housing comprising an open top with an oversized cap secured to an interior center shaft standing above the rim of the housing to give an umbrella effect and comprise a singular vent. A housing comprising a closed top with a cap inserted slightly down into it, and the brim of said cap resting on the rim of the housing and said housing comprising a plurality of side vents elbowed downward to a forty five degree angle.

Description

    BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • I Fred Boyd of 66 Phillwood Drive, Columbus, Miss. 39705 designed and built two different style Animal Repellent Canisters to be refillable with different types of repellents; the repellents are bought separately from the Canisters. The Canisters can be filled with powder, solid or granule repellents. I built two prototype Canisters, tested them and painted them. I tried several paint colors and decided on Olive and Hunter green; these two colors blend in with green plants. The Canisters can be re-painted to match their surroundings. Use the Canisters with the appropriate repellent to drive away nuisance animals without spreading the repellent onto the ground. The Canisters have weatherproof housings which eliminate the need to reapply repellents after it rains, making the repellents longer lasting, which saves on the need to buy as often. The two Canisters are different in appearance and scent the area differently. I named them according to their look. With The Gug-a-Not the repellent is enclosed and with The Dom-e-Nator the repellent is open to the air. The idea of the Animal Repellent Refill Canisters came when I had to reapply snake repellents that were exposed to the environments for copperhead snakes making their way along the front of our home and down along the front of the bottom steps. There is an overhang close to the ground that extends a bedroom; the snakes made this their pass way toward the steps. Because of the overhang this area stayed dry, I applied yellow powder sulfur snake repellent on the ground under the overhang and it stayed dry and scented year round. Soon I started thinks of ways to keep any type of repellent dry, solids, powdered and granules. February 2012: The Gug-a-Not was the first idea; I built a prototype in March 2012 and tested it. The Dom-e-Nator idea came in March 2012 and built in March 2012 to keep animals out of the plants in the front yard.
  • SPECIFICATIONS
  • FIG. 1 on page 2: The Gug-a-Not Housing measure three inches in diameter and three inches in length, with a slightly rounded bottom. There are four Vent Ports, one on each side of the Housing for air flow and releasing the repellent scent. The Vents Ports are elbowed down to a forty five degree angle to keep out the rain and still allow scenting. The Vent Ports measure three quarter inches in diameter and two inches in length. On top of the Housing is a removable Cap. The Cap inserts down into the Housing with its lid resting on the rim of the Housing for a weatherproof seal. The Cap measure three inches diameter. Attached to the bottom of the Housing is a round Spike for securing the Canister in the ground. The Ground Spike is a sealed spike to prevent condensation from collecting in the bottom of the Housing from the ground after a heavy rain. The Ground Spike measure ten inches in length and three quarter inches in diameter.
  • FIG. 2 on page 2: The Dom-e-Nator Housing measure three inches in diameter and three inches in length, with a slightly rounded bottom, the Housing has a Center Shaft with threads at the top for screwing on and off the Dome Cap. When the larger Dome Cap is screwed onto the Center Shaft, it gives an overhang over the smaller Housing for weatherproofing and scenting. The Center Shaft measure four inches in length and three quarter inches in diameter; the Center Shaft is attached to the inside bottom of the Housing. The Dome Cap is four inches in diameter and two and a half inches in length. Attached inside the middle of the Dome Cap is a threaded Extension for screwing the cap onto the Center Shaft and to give enough space between the Dome Cap and the Housing for weatherproofing and scenting. The Extension also allows the cap to be screwed off the Center Shaft for refills. The measurement of the Extension is three quarter inches in diameter, one and a half inches in length.
