Abstract

A garment weight allows women to keep the bottoms of their skirts and dresses against their bodies, regardless of wind currents. The first part of the garment weight may be pinned on the inside hem of a skirt or dress, and the weighted second part may snap into the first part. An individual may use as many pins as she feels necessary for the fabric and the conditions. The pins are removable so they may be utilized on any skirt or dress in a user's wardrobe. The garment weight is ideal for use by women who want to be sure that their skirts and dresses will not blow upwards on a blustery day.

Description

    CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION
  • This application claims the benefit of priority of U.S. provisional application No. 61/554,070, filed Nov. 1, 2011, the contents of which are herein incorporated by reference.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to clothing accessories and, more particularly, to a garment weight that keeps women's clothing in place in windy conditions.
  • Women often enjoy wearing skirts or dresses; however, they sometimes struggle to keep their skirts and dresses down in breezy conditions. Mother nature is unpredictable, and the wind can pick up at any moment and cause embarrassment for the wearer. Constantly keeping a skirt or dress down can also be distracting, as a woman may be so concentrated on the task that she is unable to participate in social conversations, whether at a barbeque or walking to lunch with a co-workers or the boss.
  • As can be seen, there is a need for device that can allow women to wear their favorite dresses without fear that the outfit may become more revealing in windy conditions.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • In one aspect of the present invention, a garment weight device comprises a base member; an attachment mechanism disposed on a first side of the base member; a base female snap accessible from a second, opposite side of the base member; a weight; and a male snap protrusion disposed on a first side of the weight, wherein the male snap protrusion attaches to the base female snap.
  • In another aspect of the present invention, a garment weight device comprises a circular base member; a pin needle attachment mechanism disposed on a first side of the base member, the pin needle attachment mechanism operable to attach the base member to a garment; a base female snap accessible from a second, opposite side of the base member; a circular weight; and a male snap protrusion disposed on a first side of the weight, wherein the male snap protrusion attaches to the base female snap.
  • In a further aspect of the present invention, a method for preventing a garment from lifting in wind comprises attaching an attachment member, disposed on one side of a base member of a garment weight device, to the garment; and attaching a weight to the base member via a base female snap of the base member and a male snap protrusion of the weight.
  • These and other features, aspects and advantages of the present invention will become better understood with reference to the following drawings, description and claims.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a garment weight, in use, according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention;
  • FIG. 2 is a top perspective view of the garment weight of FIG. 1;
  • FIG. 3 is a bottom perspective view of the garment weight of FIG. 1;
  • FIG. 4 is a bottom view of the garment weight of FIG. 1;
  • FIG. 5 is a side view of the garment weight of FIG. 1;
  • FIG. 6 is a perspective view illustration the garment weight of FIG. 1 being applied to a garment;
  • FIG. 7 is a front exploded perspective view of the garment weight of FIG. 1; and
  • FIG. 8 is a back exploded perspective view of the garment weight of FIG. 1.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention, since the scope of the invention is best defined by the appended claims.
  • Broadly, an embodiment of the present invention provides a garment weight that allows women to keep the bottoms of their skirts and dresses against their bodies, regardless of wind currents.
  • Referring now to FIGS. 1 through 8, a garment weight device 26 can include a base member 10 having an attachment mechanism, such as a base pin 12 disposed on a back side thereof. The attachment mechanism may be used to attach the base member 10 to a garment 20, such as the inside hem of a skirt or dress. The base member 10 can include a female snap portion 18. Typically, the female snap portion 18 is disposed in a central region of a round base member 10.
  • A weight 14 can attach to the base member 10. A back side of the weight 14 can include a male snap protrusion 16 that can fit into and secure to the base female snap 18 of the base member 10.
  • To use the garment weight device 26, a user 22 can insert a pin needle 24 of the base member 10 into the inner hem of the garment 20. The weight 14 can be snapped into the base member 10 via the base female snap 18 of the base member 10 and the male snap protrusion 16 of the weight 14.
  • The garment weight device 26 can be circular in shape, although other shapes may be contemplated within the scope of the present invention. The garment weight device 26 can measure from about 18 mm to about 30 mm in diameter, typically about 24 mm in diameter. The base member 10 can be made of various materials, typically of a plastic material. The weight 14 can also be made of various materials, typically a heavy material such as metal. The weight 14 may come in two or more weight variations and can be manufactured in various colors, typically clear or black for better concealment, depending on the outfit. The exact specifications for the garment weight device 26 can vary depending upon manufacturing and desired application.
  • It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing relates to exemplary embodiments of the invention and that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the following claims.
