ao asss I i CHILDV'S NvELTY. HANDBAG Max Tannenbaum, Brooklym N. Y. Application April6, 1935, Serial No. 15,024 N c 3 c iisl (c.46 -4s) 4 This invention relates to Children's purses: or hand bags and has particular reference to a child's novelty purse, bag 'or other-similar container 'having a sound -or voice producing device associated therewith which is actuated bycompression of the walls of the purse, bag or other container.
The invention also comprehends a container of the type specified having flexible walls and a lining therefor, with a sound producing device located between one of the walls and the lining and adapted to be actuated by compression of either of the outer walls.
More particularly the invention resides in the combination with a child's purse, hand bag or` equivalent container, including a p'ouch having a mouth formed with rigid pivotally connected frame jaws and fiexible side walls, of a sound producing device including a hollow normally distended fiexible body having a rigid sound tube' disposed parallel with and adjacent to the rame jaws and the body located between the fiexible side walls of the purse so that inward pressure on either of the side walls thereof actuates the sound producing device. y
The invention also provides an improved sound producing device for use in an article having fiexible walls, which device includes a sound tube and a hollow flexible air impervious body from ing device.
The invention further includes a child's novelty container provided with a representation of an animal depicted on the outer surface thereof and with a sound producing device associated therewith and adapted to emit sounds simulating the voice of the animal depicted thereon.
With these and other objects in View, the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing in which there is illustrated a preferred form of the invention, while the appended claims cover variations and modifications thereof which fall 'within their scope.`
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a face View of a childs purse embodying the container.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical sectional view taken approximately on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary longitudinal sectional View taken approximately on line sj-j of Fig. 2. j v i Referring; to the 'drawing'by characterso -reference, Io designates the pouch or 'body or a childs purse, although within the scope of the '5 invention any equivalent container or structure is intended to be covered, which includes opposed 'fiexible side walls ll and |2 witha pair 'origid -designated generally by the reference character 15 I 1, is located within the pouch or body ID between the opposed walls Il and |2 so that compression of either of the side walls of the pouch will cause the functioning of said device IT.
The device includes a hollow fiexible air impervious body I 8 having a rigid sound tube [9 located at the upper portion of the body and having an open end'protruding therefrom, the inner end being closed as at 20 with a reed 2l extending through the closed end of the sound tube and 25 provided with a vibrating tongue 22 for creating a sound when air is drawn into the body through u the sound tube and' reed. The body !8 contains a matted, stranded inherently resilient material' I 23 which normally acts to distend the walls of 6 the body and which, when compressed, contracts the body and expels the air therefrom, the sub-' sequent inherent expansive action of the material 23 serving to distend the body to thereby eflect the intake of air through the sound tube and reed 5 to actuate the tongue 22 for creating the sound.
As illustrated, the sound producing device IT is Secured to the wall I 2 'at its corners by stitching 24 with the rigid sound tube and reed located r adjacent or in close proximity to and parallel 40 with the rigid framejaw l4 so as to protect the tube and reedand position the same in the region 1 of the pouch or'body which is rendered rigid by the frame j aws so as to avoid distortion or breakage of the sound tube and reed. The remainder of the soft yieldable body portion of the sound producing device depends from'the rame jaws where it is disposed in a position where it maybe 'readily compressed' by pressure exerted on either` p V one or both of the side walls ll and l2'. 0
In order to conceal and protect the sound pro ducing device and to prevent interference ofthe same with the contents of the purse, the sound, producing device I'I is preferably located between one of the side walls |2 and the'lining I 6. 55
Preferably the pouch or body lo will be decorated with' representations of animals and the.
sound producing device will be constructed so as to emit sounds simulating the voice of the animal depictedthereon, so as to render the device more attractive and amusing to a child.
What is claimed is:
1. A child's hand bag including a pouch formed with flexible side walls, a pair of rigid pivotally connected frane jaws secured to the open edge of the pouch and definng the mouth thereof; and a sound producing device including a hollow normallyj distended fiexible body provided with a rigid sound tube protruding therefrom, the said body being secured to the inner surface of one of the side Wails of the pouch withthe sound tube disposed parallel with and adjacent to the frame jaws thereof and adapted to beactuated by compression of either of the side walls of the pouch to cause the functioning of the sound producing device.' i
2. A child's hand bag. including a pouch formed with fiexible side wa11s,a lining, a pair' of rigid pivotally connected frame jaws 'Secured to the open edge of the pouch and defining the'mouth thereof, and a sound producing device including a hollow normally distended flexible body provided with a rigid soundtube protruding therefrom, the said body being Secured between the lining and one of the side walls of the pouch with any connected frame jaws forming the mouth thereof, of a sound producing device including a 1 hollow normally distended flexible body having a, rigid sound tube protruding therefrom and disposed parallel with and adjacent to the frame jaws, said body being Secured and located between the fiexible side walls of the bag, whereby inward 2 pressure against either of the said side walls will compress the hollowbodyto cause the sound producing device to function.
